the nicest chocolates ever?
I’ve had Hotel Chocolat, Chococo, Lily O Brian’s, Booja Booja, Green and Black’s, Prestat etc... for Mother’s Day in the past and really don’t like many of the flavours.
Am I just common as muck or does anyone else feel the same?

They used to be the nicests chocolates in about 1996. Lots more competition now though.

IncorrigibleTitmouse · 02/03/2021 05:46

Thornton’s Alpini are a great joy in my life. As was the chocolate covered special toffee but I haven’t had that for ages. Luckily for my arse, which is already the size of a Renault Megane, I live abroad and they’re not so easily accessible anymore...

Caspianberg · 02/03/2021 06:26

Ritter sport are good for a basic yet tasty chocolate.

Willies cacao is the way to go for something nice

Zotter is the bees knees

BigPaperBag · 02/03/2021 07:33

Don’t really like the taste of Thornton’s, it’s a bit meh. Now Lindor 😋 I love the pick and mix In Sainsbury’s too!

42isthemeaning · 02/03/2021 07:58

I love Monty Bojangles Truffles.

I also think HC are a lovely treat.

Thorntons - unpleasant

Lindt chocolate in the UK is made from a different recipe than the chocolate the company makes elsewhere eg Switzerland. We get the chocolate with the cheaper ingredients.

SchmooobyDoo · 02/03/2021 09:14

Tony’s is good, for a sweet treat. For a proper chocolate hit, Willies Cacao. Hotel Chocolat flavours are hit & miss. Except the Pink Champagne!

Lindt is the best of a bad bunch of supermarket chocolate. Though as 42 says, look for Swiss or German-made Lindt. M&S Swiss is nice too!

Yes, some folk do prefer quantity to quality. My mum likes Dairy Box, but they all taste the same to me. A small box of posh chocs is my ideal gift...

VictoriaClaire28 · 04/03/2021 21:12

[quote fairislecable]I love Lauden chocolates and they do the most amazing flavours.

The only drawback is I have to order online as they are not stocked at the local shops,

Another vote for Lauden! We love the truffles!

WaterGarden · 05/03/2021 06:39

Does anyone know which Thorntons box the Diplomat comes in? Or can you only buy them separately?

HeathIns · 05/03/2021 06:58

You can buy them in small bags!

WaterGarden · 05/03/2021 07:02

Thanks. I thought I'd had them.as part of a bigger selection but maybe not

ouchmyfeet · 05/03/2021 13:43

@MemoryIsRAM

They used to be lovely, now they're so sugary they hurt my teeth. It's not nice chocolate any more.

I'd much rather have Hotel Chocolat.

THIS
HeadNorth · 05/03/2021 13:45

I was given some Hotel Chocolat recently and it was horrid - I struggled to finish it. A real disappointment. My favourite are the Lindt Lindor chocolates.

Zenithbear · 05/03/2021 13:52

Thorntons used to be the posh chocolates.
Not anymore. I loved the viennese truffles and their treacle toffee.
Now though it's hotel chocolate or the stuff from our local farm shop but can't remember the name cocoa something.

InsufferablePerformanceFather · 05/03/2021 15:27

I'm with the Lindt fans. Swiss chocolate is way nicer than Belgian. Those wildly expensive, hand-made Belgian chocolates always taste like plastic to me. It took me years to find a kind way to tell my husband that I thought they were a massive waste of money. Swiss every time, Lindt being the only ones I can afford.

Dowser · 05/03/2021 15:29

Can’t bear Thornton’s
Their best were dark russian caramels

Dowser · 05/03/2021 15:30

Montezumas dark sea salt and lime is nice
I can’t have milk chocolate.
Bendicks dark mint..also nice
I have to watch the gluco syrup

Yes Monty Bojangles!

Gorgeous truffles. Some amazing flavours. Choccy Scoffy is heaven.

InsufferablePerformanceFather · 05/03/2021 15:39

Ooh, just read the bit about palm oil sneaking its way into Lindt. What a shame.

Anne1958 · 05/03/2021 15:39

Lindt being the only ones I can afford

There is a Lindt factory shop a few miles from Milan airport if you are ever in the area. My friend always takes me there on the way to the airport as it’s near to her house it’s chocolate heaven.

Oh and there’s also one in Zurich.

howaboutchocolate · 05/03/2021 15:43

Thorntons taste like sick to me.

I don't like most mid-range chocolate truffles. I'll happily eat Cadbury or Quality street (tastes of nostalgia) or chocolates from independent chocolate makers, and give everything inbetween a miss.

Tianatiers · 05/03/2021 15:44

They are amazing I agree but have you tried monty bojangles? They’re the best imo

CounsellorTroi · 05/03/2021 15:51

Lindt is ok apart from the 85% cocoa bar which is vile. The Co 0p's is so much nicer.
