the nicest chocolates ever?
I’ve had Hotel Chocolat, Chococo, Lily O Brian’s, Booja Booja, Green and Black’s, Prestat etc... for Mother’s Day in the past and really don’t like many of the flavours.
Am I just common as muck or does anyone else feel the same?

Montezuma’s are the best 🍫

1Morewineplease · 27/02/2021 17:41

My local Co-op are selling Thornton's Classics at a reduced price at the moment and I've noticed that some of the chocolates have been changed.
Thornton's really need to up their game, but their new flavours deflated me.
Just can't abide salted caramel.

DaiquirisinDorset · 27/02/2021 17:44

I think they're horrible. Really sickly, too sweet, poor chocolate...nothing to redeem them at all.

I'm not a massive chocolate fan and definitely prefer plain, but Thorntons - big no from me. Green and Blacks are crap now as well.

SnotLongTilEaster · 27/02/2021 17:44

You are so wrong! Lindt are the best ever chocolate makers!

Eggsley · 27/02/2021 17:46

@BerylCook @Twotinydictators

Ohhh thank you! I though they had stopped doing them altogether. Haven't had one for years, now have a desperate craving for them.

BerylCook · 27/02/2021 17:47

Looking at the ‘Pudding’, ‘Spring’ and ‘Classic’ collections now! Not one disgusting salted caramel in sight!

I'm not keen on Thornton. I do love Lily O Brian's dessert chocs though Smile

BobbinAround · 27/02/2021 17:47

I like Thornton's.

However DMIL sent me a box of Telfer's chocolates and they are the best I've ever had. And I've eaten a lot of chocolate over the years. Smile

Ismellphantoms · 27/02/2021 17:48

I love chocolate, but there's something about Thornton's that I really dislike. The fillings are too sweet and yucky and the chocolate isn't great either. Give me Swiss chocolate, fresh Belgian chocolates or Hotel Chocolat any day.

Osirus · 27/02/2021 17:48

I’ve just finished my Christmas box, and I’m so impressed with how much better they are. I used to hate Thornton’s, is they’re brilliant (well at least this box was!).

Osirus · 27/02/2021 17:48

Is was supposed to be “now”!

LubaLuca · 27/02/2021 17:49

Thornton's chocolates used to be a wonderful (and relatively expensive) treat years ago. The moment they went mass market, the quality dropped through the floor. It's such a shame. Going in one of their little shops used to be a lovely experience.

fairislecable · 27/02/2021 17:50

I love Lauden chocolates and they do the most amazing flavours.

The only drawback is I have to order online as they are not stocked at the local shops,

Oh wow! I like the look of the Scottish box!!!

🤮 horrible palm oil / exotic fats and too much sugar. Waxy, bland and over-sweet.

LongPauseNoAnswer · 27/02/2021 17:50

You need to try real Swiss chocolate like Cailler or Frey’s.

Thornton’s are nasty sickly sweet muck, like most of the chocolate that used to be good.

Jeanswithanicetop · 27/02/2021 17:51

Hotel Chocolat all the way

blueirises · 27/02/2021 17:52

The Dark Continental are lovely. I kept hearing Thornton's had gone crap and expected not to like them, but I think I enjoyed all of them. Never fancied lemon chocolates before, but OOOH!

BerylCook · 27/02/2021 17:52

Lauden original collection looks very good! (Minus the salted C and Champagne ones)

BrideofBideford · 27/02/2021 17:55

Thornton used to be good, I’m sure, way back in the 90s. They did fudge and toffee too, all yum.

Then they slowly became cheap nasty and just not worth eating

I wonder how long Hotel Chicokat lasts before they start meddling and adding a bit of palm oil, a bit more sugar, a bit less cocoa, a slightly smaller size choc....

I guess this is how capitalism works: try to cut on ingredients once you have a loyal following

It happened to Cadbury’s too

BobbinAround · 27/02/2021 17:57

@BerylCook - I thoroughly recommend the Scottish box. Really lovely chocolates.

IsThePopeCatholic · 27/02/2021 18:00

I find them too sweet.

chocoholic2021 · 27/02/2021 18:01

@nursejekyll

They are horrible. They used to be nice years ago.
Loved them years ago too. So many chocolates are such poor quality now. Ended up checking the best before date on some chocolate lately as it was that bad.
Sexnotgender · 27/02/2021 18:02

Common as muck. They’re in the same league as roses and quality street.

Donotfeedthebears · 27/02/2021 18:04

As a child, Thornton’s was posh. My dad used to pick up a bag of Viennese truffles after work on a Friday. Now they just taste cheap and sugary. Sad

Love Hotel Chocolat though.
