the nicest chocolates ever?
I’ve had Hotel Chocolat, Chococo, Lily O Brian’s, Booja Booja, Green and Black’s, Prestat etc... for Mother’s Day in the past and really don’t like many of the flavours.
Am I just common as muck or does anyone else feel the same?

Thorntons are my absolute fave! I can’t stand Hotel Chocolat, which is lucky, as I can often afford to treat myself a box of Thorntons, guilt free.

Potterythrowdown · 27/02/2021 18:07

Had a box over Christmas and was pleasantly surprised how nice they were. I love very sweet things though

QuestionableMouse · 27/02/2021 18:07

Their mint and fudge bars are nice.

AlwaysLatte · 27/02/2021 18:09

I hate Thornton's chocolates, they taste plasticky to me!

FuzzyPuffling · 27/02/2021 18:10

I love them. Especially the Diplomat ones.

Sloth66 · 27/02/2021 18:10

I used to like them, to me they now don’t taste as good, maybe using cheaper ingredients?

joystir59 · 27/02/2021 18:13

Horrible waxy greasy rubbish. Our local artisan chocolatier does gorgeous chocs

Dontsayfuckorbugger · 27/02/2021 18:15

I'd be happy with them

AgeLikeWine · 27/02/2021 18:17

Thornton’s Continental used to be superb quality, but they cut corners on ingredients and completely ruined them. They are now cheap, nasty & far too sweet.

It’s sad to see how the company has declined, because they are based near where I grew up and I used to know people who worked there. They just went too far downmarket and now they have trashed their brand.

LetsGoFlyAKiteee · 27/02/2021 18:18

Used to love the Rich chocolate truffles..not sure if they do them anymore. When I was younger loved going into our local. Everything just looked so nice!! Not sure where our nearest one is anymore and the taste has definitely changed

nocoolnamesleft · 27/02/2021 18:18

YABU. They're edible, but not much more than that. Much prefer HC.

Cindy87 · 27/02/2021 18:20

YABU I think they're shit.

EachBleachBlairTrump · 27/02/2021 18:26

I worked for them many years ago, before they sold cheap in supermarkets, before they used hydrogenated vegetable fat and Palm oil, they took on a lot of senior management from supermarkets who believed stack it high sell it cheap was the way to go. All of the personal touches, servery, wedding favours, proper hand gift wrapping not sent in by the factory (I used to be able to gift wrap a great shaped padded satin box by pleating), making hampers, icing all kinds of things rather than a quick name in cheap icing etc quickly disappeared and they started selling in supermarkets, then B&M etc, completely ruined the brand, then a few years ago sold to Ferrerro who really only wanted the chocolate factory in Alfreton, hardly any shops left now and the products are terrible quality compared to how they were before. We were always taught to tell customers the only fat we use is cocoa butter, that's why it has a low melting point, lovely mouth feel etc. Couldn't say that now. Such a shame.

*heart shaped

felineflutter · 27/02/2021 18:32

YABVU they used to be delicious. Remember the caskets of chocolates with the nougat wall?

They all taste the same sorry. M&S do some that are OK tbh.

BerylCook · 27/02/2021 18:39

@Sexnotgender

Common as muck. They’re in the same league as roses and quality street.
Quality St. I also love! (Not keen on Roses though) and I disagree! Continental are definitely superior!

Yes, I’ve seen that happen from a customer point of view. I used to love creating my own chocolate box! Definitely embracing the stack them high, sell them cheap plan!
I do like them still I must say!

Remember the caskets of chocolates with the nougat wall?
One of my many memories of Easter at home. We always had one!

YAB totally U! Thorntons chocolates are REVOLTING!

Ginlovingmumof4 · 27/02/2021 18:49

I don’t like ‘posh’ chocolates of any kind. Cadbury’s fruit and nut every time for me. I’m a primary school teacher and am always bought fancy chocolates of some sort as Christmas/end of year gifts because most people assume I’d like them! My husband is always happy to help out eating them though (and I guess he deserves them for what he has to put up with from my job!).

Guylan · 27/02/2021 18:53

Alpini nice, but overall Thorntons are too sweet.

FangsForTheMemory · 27/02/2021 18:54

I fell out with them because they stopped doing the dark chocolate apricot one.

CocoPark · 27/02/2021 18:56

Really don't like Thornton's! Always feel disappointed with them (obviously they still go in but I'd rather have a box of Dairy Box!)

KenAdams · 27/02/2021 18:56

Any sort of mainstream chocolate is vile now. Tastes like water. This is the best chocolate ever. Fact.
