the nicest chocolates ever?
I’ve had Hotel Chocolat, Chococo, Lily O Brian’s, Booja Booja, Green and Black’s, Prestat etc... for Mother’s Day in the past and really don’t like many of the flavours.
Am I just common as muck or does anyone else feel the same?

They still have alpini so all is well Grin
I was given a box this week , such a nice surprise!

DaiquirisinDorset · 27/02/2021 19:38

There's a tiny chocolate shop near where we live, that makes it's own small batches of chocolate. They're exceptionally careful about where they source their beans from and make incredible stuff. It's only fractionally more expensive, and owned by a couple of really nice people.

Their chocolate is absolutely lovely - it's turned my head about what it 'should' taste like.

ReverendRicketyCricket · 27/02/2021 19:40

YABU. As PP said, so sweet they burn your mouth. I actually don't know how anyone can eat them. It's like sitting down to a whole batch of fudge or worse!

Thorntons were delicious in the 1980s.
They have really cheapened them now. They taste crap. Really sickly.

Donotfeedthebears · 27/02/2021 20:31

I like Rococco too.

riverseven · 27/02/2021 20:38

I loved them when I was a teenager in the 80s. I thought they were total luxury (which they were, compared to what else was available then - Milk Tray, Black Magic, etc). I didn't have them for years, but got some for a present last year and thought they were horribly sweet and cheap tasting. Not sure if that's my changing taste or if Thorntons have changed the recipe. I much prefer a bar of nice quality dark chocolate now.

They used to do a really nice Chocolate Truffle in the box (White box cannot remember what range) but I suppose they've gone now Sad

DS likes the Double Cream Mints ( as they were called )

I bought DD a Gruffalo Egg last year because it's cute but it was nasty . And she refused the Advent Calendar from Thorntons last year , she didn't like it .

Moonface123 · 27/02/2021 20:45

I am a chocoholic, but l don't like Thorntons, probably the only brand l don't like.
l much prefer Cadbury or Lindt.

MarySanderson · 27/02/2021 20:54

Try the lindt boxes - the flat boxes, not the cartons - some nice chocolates in there.

SilverGlassHare · 27/02/2021 20:56

I used to love the caramel truffles and the Seville truffles... pack when they did the pick and mix. But they stopped making the caramel truffles and I went off the Seville truffles. I actually fancy some now but I don’t know where the nearest Thornton’s is any more!

BlueThistles · 27/02/2021 20:59

@Disfordarkchocolate

They are now hideous, they used to be lovely.
110% agree ...

they melted in your mouth .... heavenly

now... hard and not so delightful 😔

EwwSprouts · 27/02/2021 21:00

They used to be good but then all the centres became flavoured goo.

nursejekyll · 27/02/2021 21:00

Wow Lauden chocolates look incredible! Might treat myself at Easter.

nursejekyll · 27/02/2021 21:01

'They used to be good but then all the centres became flavoured goo.'
Yep - all exactly the same sickly flavour and texture.

Lurcherloves · 27/02/2021 21:02

Godiva are the best. I like prestat too.

Artichokepiglet · 27/02/2021 21:10

I used to love them as a teenager but after getting nostalgic about them and buying a box a couple of weeks ago I was really disappointed! Most of the best ones, including my old fave the Catalana, have gone :(

yetmorecrap · 27/02/2021 21:16

I don’t like chocolate much apart from very bitter plain chocolate , luckily here in Denmark it’s easy to get super quality plain chocolate at mainstream prices

I used to like them.
Our local branch has closed now.

I think they have devalued the brand by selling it in other places like Poundland.

felineflutter · 27/02/2021 22:35

Yes but I think fudge would be better to the goo.

lazylinguist · 27/02/2021 22:49

I think Thornton's chocolates are awful. They just taste of cheap oil and sugar. They are even worse than Cadbury's, and that's saying something! I like Lindt, Green&Black's and Aldi Moser Roth.

FuzzyPuffling · 28/02/2021 07:57

Godiva and Prestat? Not exactly the same price point!

ChocOrange1 · 28/02/2021 07:59

YABU
Thornton chocolate is cheap and nasty in my opinion. I would rather have a smaller amount of really nice chocolate than a huge box of not great ones.

Tony's or montezuma all the way 🤤

NellePorter · 28/02/2021 08:03

I used to love Thorntons Continentals, they were my favourite chocolates for a long, long time, but the past few boxes I've had were not nice at all and very disappointing. I'd much rather have Hotel Chocolat now.
