Neighbour argument

Name changed🤪

Excuse the length of the post and also any errors as using my phone.

2 neighbours are currently having a argument over a incident that happened this morning.

Neighbour A let her children and her dog out to play this morning in to her own garden neighbour B’s cat was in their garden and got spooked by the kids and the dog. The cat has tried to climb the tree to get over the fence but somehow has managed to get caught. Cat stuck in tree with dog at the bottom barking madly at it. Neighbour A and B have both run out to garden as the noise from the cat and the dog were both very loud. B manages to get the cat untangled by leaning over fence on a chair. Cat obviously has injured its leg and was rushed to the emergency vets.

Now B has knocked on A’s door and said that the cats leg may be broken and its having x rays this afternoon etc she is waiting for a phone call from the vet she then said how would A be paying the bill? Would she pay her or go direct to the vet and pay the bill? Confused
A has stated that she is sorry that the cat has injured itself but she will not be paying as it was a accident and she can not see how she is at fault and has to pay for it.

B has gone mad and said her cat was spooked by her children and dog thats why he got stuck and was struggling to get away from a mad dog so it’s obvious she needs to pay!!

B said she will be back once the vet has phoned to let her know the amount and that if she isn’t prepared to pay she will be taking it to small claims court as it’s A’s fault her cat is injured.

A has asked my opinion as we are friends and whether she is being unreasonable. I think she is in the right and is not being unreasonable at all.

So why I sit and curtain twitchGrinWhat do Mumsnet think is A being unreasonable by not paying the bill?

I suspect cat dad has told cat mum that she is crazy, and this is the end of it.

Flowerlane · 28/02/2021 16:30

Ladies and Gents I have a update...sorry it’s so long but wanted to give you the full story - also typing on phone so excuse errors.

Dog mum was in garden with kids when cat dad called over fence and asked if he could have a word with dog mum and dog dad. Dog Dad came out and joined.

Cat dad said he had heard what had happened yesterday in regards to the cat being in the tree and that they would not be asking dog mum & dad to pay. Dog dad said that’s good to hear and hope they can all carry on as normal.
Now this is why I am friends with dog mum as she likes to know details...Dog mum wasn’t happy with this and asked why the sudden change as apparently cat mum had said cat dad was angry and would be round asking for payment.
Cat dad laughed and said typical women always wants to know the full story! He explained that when he was at work yesterday cat mum phoned and said the cat had broken its leg and she was at the emergency vets and that the neighbours dog had done it but was in such a state he couldn’t get the full story out of her and said he would discuss it later when home as he was busy at work.
When he got home last night he found out the complete story and basically turned round and said it’s nothing to do with dog mum and dad they didn’t do anything wrong. He also went on to explain that they don’t have insurance for any of the cats as one cat a couple of years ago got run over but the insurance didn’t end up paying out for whatever reason so cat mum cancelled them and instead said they will put money away each month which she never did. Cat dad dislikes cats and never really wanted any but somehow they ended up with 3 after cat mum promised she would be the one in charge of the cats. Anyway the cat that has broke its leg cat dad calls the devil cat. The cat has for the last year and half been wrecking their house, it’s ruined curtains etc by clawing them to pieces and goes to the toilet where ever it likes. It has also bitten twice. Cat has been to vets many times to see if there is a underlying problem but they can’t find anything wrong. One vet said the cat just doesn’t have a nice nature. It’s cost them a fortune in vets fees and replacing the things it’s ruined indoors. Cat dad wants to rehome it but cat mum is dead against it. The other 2 cats are really lovely natured and stay out of the devil cats way. Cat dad kids won’t go near devil cat.
Final nail in the coffin was last week cat mum had found out that devil cat had peed all over a very expensive pair of cat dads shoes!!! Cat mum tried to save them but caused the leather to discolour so had to fess up to cat dad who hit the roof and said if she is not prepared to rehome the cat to someone who can give it the time and attention it needs then going forward he will not be paying anything towards repairs or cat vet bills and it will have to come out of her account that’s her money and not their joint account as he was fed up of it.
So it seems cat mum has panicked and realised she is now the one having to fork out for the cat and tried to get the money off dog family. Cat dad laughed and said that the expensive item she was saving up for as treat after lockdown would now be the money being used to pay the vet bill. He hopes that this will be a lesson to cat mum and she will realise the cat needs to be rehomed.
Everyone is friends well not sure about cat mum as she is at the vets picking up devil cat.
Dog mum left with the parting line so I won’t need to worry about a small claims court letter arriving anytime soon then? Cat dad replied with a smirk ‘definitely not’.

So there it is...cat dad has laid it on the table and basically told cat mum not to be stupid and she is paying for the cat!

The only question me and dog mum are left wondering is what cat mum was saving up to buy herself as a treat for lockdownGrin

I’m more sad for divilcat now.

It probably wanted to be stuck up the tree. It knows it isn’t wanted. Sad

Bakedbeanhead · 28/02/2021 16:40

Poor Devil Cat, hopefully he can find a new home. Glad it’s sorted now and everyone can get on with their weekend 🤣

FatCatThinCat · 28/02/2021 16:57

Poor Devil Cat. :(

We have a devil cat who everyone is afraid of. She rules the roost and everyone tiptoes around her trying not to trigger her. But we love her and sometimes she even lets us stroke her, but we have to prepared to run.

Sparklfairy · 28/02/2021 16:58

Some cats are better off being the only cat. I know a couple who had three, one of which sounds like devil cat. He was always causing havoc and attacking the other two. Then the couple split and devil cat stayed with the man, and the other two went with the woman. Devil cat is much calmer, and nicer. Super affectionate, still a spoiled sod and pulls some stunts but nothing like before.

Doesn't sound like crazy cat mum will act in the best interests of the cat though Sad

cameocat · 28/02/2021 17:02

Poor devil cat!

WhoStoleMyCheese · 28/02/2021 17:09

oh wow a fitting ending! Was worth hanging around!
Cat dad is a lot nicer than me though... DP really likes cats, I'm neutral, if we do get one all expenses are 100% on him Grin

WhoStoleMyCheese · 28/02/2021 17:10

Also if my entire family hated a cat I'd put them over the cat.. she is defo batty.
Devil cat probs deserves a home with only one or two other people around and no other cats

BlackAmericanoNoSugar · 28/02/2021 17:14

If CatMum is a Mumsnetter then the expensive post lockdown treat was probably a spa day. Grin

That all worked out nicely then (except for the cat, obviously).

billybagpuss · 28/02/2021 17:19

Aw poor devil cat Sad

dapsnotplimsolls · 28/02/2021 17:21

Round of applause for Cat Dad.

Snowymcsnowsony · 28/02/2021 17:23

Sounds like a catastrophic time....

NovemberR · 28/02/2021 17:26

To be honest, I'm now feeling sorry for CatMum.

She was in the wrong (and I posted earlier that she'd probably hurt the cat's leg herself) - but I'd be utterly pissed off to be married to somebody that thought so little of me that they laughed about me to the neighbours like CatsDad has just done.

Did he need to belittle her to that extent to the neighbourhood? He could have just said. we've discussed it and realised we over-reacted. Sorry.

TheyIsMyFamily · 28/02/2021 17:26

yay for Cat Dad, but poor Devil Cat.

IEat · 28/02/2021 17:27

I wouldn’t get involved. Let the 2 adults settle it themselves

DoubleTweenQueen · 28/02/2021 17:30

What a great story! Hope devil cat makes a speedy recovery. Hope dog mum will be generous and kind to cat mum :D
Cat dad is a good man of much character.

SheldonesqueIsUnwell · 28/02/2021 17:30

Indeed NovemberR

Getting sadder by the minute Sad

2littleguineas · 28/02/2021 17:33

Cat dad is really disloyal to his wife disclosing all this to his neighbour's.
He did the right thing shutting down his wife's nonsense but dissing her in public makes him sound a right plank.

Grooticle · 28/02/2021 17:36

Yeah I’d be questioning my marriage if I found out my husband had skated me like that to the neighbours.

All he needed to say was they’ve had a chance to talk about it properly now - she was very upset about the cat being injured, and had got the impression from the vet that it would be the norm for the property owner to pay the bills, but she must have misunderstood as she was so upset, obviously they realise now having talked it through that it’s not the neighbours’ fault.

That would have smoothed everything over nicely without making catmum look ridiculous. No need for him to bitch about her like that. They’re married and he should have her back.

LadyGAgain · 28/02/2021 17:36

This has made me chuckle. Loving your updates OP. And good luck with your diet. I hope you get a takeaway soon Grin

Grooticle · 28/02/2021 17:36

Slated not skated obv.

StartingGrid · 28/02/2021 17:39

B is an absolute CF - and I own cats!

Reinventinganna · 28/02/2021 17:43

Cat Dad should be invited to dog parents when allowed to for takeaway while cat mum stays at home and looks after devil cat.

Dog mum sounds like she would like mumsnet. Tell her to join.

Well done on arm chair reporting. I wish I had neighbours!

Flowerlane · 28/02/2021 17:52

Just want to say devil cat is looked after by cat family they are not mean to it at all and it’s needs are met. They have had many tests done to make sure cat isn’t in pain or have any health issues. He was also the last cat bought so not 1st cat who got upset with two others being bought. Cat dad by the sounds of it just didn’t want responsibility of pet ownership but caved in for his wife. He likes the other 2 cats but thinks devil cat needs a new home to see if it makes him a happier cat.

Also the poster who said cat dad shouldn’t have said as much as he did about cat mum. Mostly cat dad spoke about the problems they had had with devil cat. He maybe shouldn’t have said about her saving for something but now having to pay for vet bills but that was a quick sentence made in a jokey way apparently. This won’t be going all round the street on the WhatsApp group only cat family and dog family know what has happened and of course me as I’m good friends but then I heard the screaming when it happened. Nothing else is going to be said going forward to make cat mum uncomfortable. She went a bit bonkers but we shall put that down to lockdown and her being worried for her cat Grin

Cat mum was aware cat dad was going to be speaking to dog family while she was at the vets.
