Neighbour argument

Flowerlane · 27/02/2021 14:57

Name changed🤪

Excuse the length of the post and also any errors as using my phone.

2 neighbours are currently having a argument over a incident that happened this morning.

Neighbour A let her children and her dog out to play this morning in to her own garden neighbour B’s cat was in their garden and got spooked by the kids and the dog. The cat has tried to climb the tree to get over the fence but somehow has managed to get caught. Cat stuck in tree with dog at the bottom barking madly at it. Neighbour A and B have both run out to garden as the noise from the cat and the dog were both very loud. B manages to get the cat untangled by leaning over fence on a chair. Cat obviously has injured its leg and was rushed to the emergency vets.

Now B has knocked on A’s door and said that the cats leg may be broken and its having x rays this afternoon etc she is waiting for a phone call from the vet she then said how would A be paying the bill? Would she pay her or go direct to the vet and pay the bill? Confused
A has stated that she is sorry that the cat has injured itself but she will not be paying as it was a accident and she can not see how she is at fault and has to pay for it.

B has gone mad and said her cat was spooked by her children and dog thats why he got stuck and was struggling to get away from a mad dog so it’s obvious she needs to pay!!

B said she will be back once the vet has phoned to let her know the amount and that if she isn’t prepared to pay she will be taking it to small claims court as it’s A’s fault her cat is injured.

A has asked my opinion as we are friends and whether she is being unreasonable. I think she is in the right and is not being unreasonable at all.

So why I sit and curtain twitchGrinWhat do Mumsnet think is A being unreasonable by not paying the bill?

We had numerous cats over 20 years and none had ever broken anything. I know it's an anecdote, but unless hit by a car or similar, no cat I know had broken leg. We had 3 cat and 3 dogs, plenty of bushes and trees. Even my blind cat never injured himself like this. I think more and more cat mum panicked and accidentally hurt the cat herself, sadly.

ScottishStottie · 27/02/2021 20:37

Im hooked on this... Added to my watch list for hopefuly some action tomorrow after the takeaway food comas have worn off!!

MyLittleOrangutan · 27/02/2021 21:04

Oh I think cat mum probably did break the leg pulling it out the tree. Poor thing. Silly woman. Not the fault of anyone from dog household.

Mrgrinch · 27/02/2021 21:08

Oh god, I'm finding this far more entertaining than I shouldGrin

Well done dog mum for being so firm, cat mum sounds mental. By the sounds of it cat dad is pissed off at her for arguing or for the vet bills, I wonder which?

NoseinBook3 · 27/02/2021 21:10

I don’t get the cat mums logic... I have ducks. If a neighbours cat injured one of my ducks it would be my fault as I’m responsible for them. She’s unreasonably angry

I follow some on insta. ADORABLE buggers. Do you have nappies? I never knew there were nappies for ducks! What a time to be alive!

That is craziness, I don’t know what runs through some peoples minds!! No she should in no way be paying for a cat being in her garden and getting itself into bother up a tree🙈

Bluntness100 · 27/02/2021 21:18

This is batshit op, but you did make me laugh with your description of the husbands

She should not pay of course snd cat mum should have insurance. If she doesn’t, then more fool her

Flowerlane · 27/02/2021 21:18

Honestly I’m very invested in this and I know for a fact dog mum will stand her ground if anything else happens. Cat mum is known for causing a few problems and can be over dramatic, when her bin went missing i literally had to keep reminding myself she was talking about a missing wheelie bin and not a missing child! Cat gets attacked in its own garden by a trespassing dog gaining access? The dogs owner pays the vet bills.
Cat gets hurt going into a dog's own garden? Cat's owner pays the bills.

No way should the dog owner be liable for a cat injuring itself trying to get away from a dog in the dog's own garden.

Xiaoxiong · 27/02/2021 21:20

I think cat dad came home, got an earful from cat mum, told her she'd lost the plot and was being totally U and there was no way he'd be asking Dogfolk for money. He then sat down to tuck into his takeaway sending cat mum stamping upstairs slamming doors in a fury.

I don't think dog mum has anything to worry about, I think cat dad probably has the measure of cat mum and isn't going to come round.

MNWorldisCrazy · 27/02/2021 21:22

What a disappointment. I returned, fully expecting talk of dog mum pressing charges on cat mum and the laws on criminal damage etc.

Sounds like cat dad has told cat mum she's batshit

LabbyNoona · 27/02/2021 21:25

I am so invested... though disappointed not to have more developments tonight! Though did enjoy the takeaways

SheldonesqueIsUnwell · 27/02/2021 21:28

Beware a stealth attack on soft touch dogdad...

But by catmam.

She may go for the soft touch.

Dogdad needs to tell her that dogmam is the one to speak to given she was in the house at the time.

He can then retreat to the bedroom until the coast is clear/his spine regenerates.

I am being unfair on dogdad a bit I know. I hate confrontation too but sometimes cheekyfuckery requires some parading of baws.

MichelleScarn · 27/02/2021 21:29

I am pathetically ecstatic to have found this thread! Thank you @Flowerlane!🙀🙀

waitingpatientlyforspring · 27/02/2021 21:36

I'm a cat owner. It is the worry that they can get themselves into scrapes and injure themselves.

A would be mad to pay anything.

Longroadahead08 · 27/02/2021 21:41

Total Madness....Cat hasn’t got a leg to stand on if that goes to small claims court 🤪

Flowerlane · 27/02/2021 21:42

Honestly I have nearly just peed myself some may not find it funny but just thought I would share.

The road WhatsApp group has just gone off the little old lady down the road is asking if anyone has seen her cat as he hasn’t come home tonight, the bloke on the bend as replied seen a few cats up trees lately trying to get the nesting pigeons maybe have a look round the street when it’s light?!

Dog mum has messaged me saying do you think the whole street know about the argument and this was a sly dig Grin

Yanbu. A was in their own garden. That cat was not in its own garden. B is being ridiculous.

Msmcc1212 · 27/02/2021 21:57

Agree that dog owner has no responsibility for this here. I imagine the cat owner was stressed and upset and not thinking straight. Once things have calmed they might back down if they realise and are not too proud to.

Rachie1973 · 27/02/2021 22:11

It’s like east Enders. But better

SueblueNZ · 27/02/2021 22:37

The cat whose mum broke its leg.

WhoStoleMyCheese · 27/02/2021 22:48

Cat mum is unreasonably angry because it’s HER FUCKING FAULT
*yes I’m mad at her for breaking her cat’s leg.
She should be apologising to the cat!

Whineandwine · 27/02/2021 22:52

Something very similar happened to
My parents. Their neighbour’s dog escaped into their garden and started a fight with DM dog - the neighbour then took their dog to an emergency vet for a torn ear (DM dog needed some stitches too) and the treatment included an expensive, extended course of anti depressants for the dog to cope with the trauma!!! Neighbour insisted it should be paid for by DM. Funnily enough in the end DM rang her home insurance on the off chance they could claim and they could - apparently DM dog counted as ‘her property’ damaging a ‘neighbours property’. So to keep the peace even tho it was RIDICULOUS they paid for the intruding neighbour dog’s treatment. I’m glad cat mum isn’t caving. These daft people shouldn’t be pandered to...
