Neighbour argument

Name changed🤪

Excuse the length of the post and also any errors as using my phone.

2 neighbours are currently having a argument over a incident that happened this morning.

Neighbour A let her children and her dog out to play this morning in to her own garden neighbour B’s cat was in their garden and got spooked by the kids and the dog. The cat has tried to climb the tree to get over the fence but somehow has managed to get caught. Cat stuck in tree with dog at the bottom barking madly at it. Neighbour A and B have both run out to garden as the noise from the cat and the dog were both very loud. B manages to get the cat untangled by leaning over fence on a chair. Cat obviously has injured its leg and was rushed to the emergency vets.

Now B has knocked on A’s door and said that the cats leg may be broken and its having x rays this afternoon etc she is waiting for a phone call from the vet she then said how would A be paying the bill? Would she pay her or go direct to the vet and pay the bill? Confused
A has stated that she is sorry that the cat has injured itself but she will not be paying as it was a accident and she can not see how she is at fault and has to pay for it.

B has gone mad and said her cat was spooked by her children and dog thats why he got stuck and was struggling to get away from a mad dog so it’s obvious she needs to pay!!

B said she will be back once the vet has phoned to let her know the amount and that if she isn’t prepared to pay she will be taking it to small claims court as it’s A’s fault her cat is injured.

A has asked my opinion as we are friends and whether she is being unreasonable. I think she is in the right and is not being unreasonable at all.

So why I sit and curtain twitchGrinWhat do Mumsnet think is A being unreasonable by not paying the bill?

I’m a cat owner. I would not expect dog mum to pay. I have pet insurance so I know I will have no problem meeting any unexpected vet bills.

whenwillthemadnessend · 27/02/2021 19:32

Crazy person. Car owner is responsible

currahee · 27/02/2021 19:36

Cat owner is responsible and would have remained responsible even if the dog had chased and bitten the cat (providing this all took place in A's garden).

Flowerlane · 27/02/2021 19:38

Sorry nothing to report at moment, cat dad isn’t home yet.

StoneofDestiny · 27/02/2021 19:41

Cat mum is an idiot. Her cat was in someone else's garden!

Dog mum and dad are idiots if they pay anything.

Flowerlane · 27/02/2021 19:46

Cat Dad is home I repeat cat dad is home!!

He also had a takeaway!!!!Sad

Mishmased · 27/02/2021 19:47

Ha I'm following now. I guess he wouldn't want to let his takeaway go cold but again once takeaway is eaten he'll be too full for a fight🤣🤣

Flowerlane · 27/02/2021 19:50

I thought the same, no way I would let my takeaway get cold!

Takeaway is making me think he may not be as annoyed about it all as cat mum wants dog mum to think. Maybe he knows his wife is a delusional bellend.

emilyfrost · 27/02/2021 19:56

YANBU. I would have told cat mum in no uncertain terms that the animal should not be in my garden in the first place, that her own garden should be cat proofed so they can’t get out and bother everyone else.

Had she catproofed her garden this wouldn’t have happened.

Mycomfyplacetochill · 27/02/2021 19:57

I'm a cat owner and there's no way I'd ask the neighbour to pay especially as the cat was not in its own garden

Neighbours is barking mad

TheyIsMyFamily · 27/02/2021 20:00

Cat owner is completely mad.

My cat is my favourite 'child' in my home ... but there's no way I'd expect a neighbour should pay for any required cat bills under the described scenario.

I'd tell cat owner to feel free to take me to court, but that I would then be asking for 'wasting of my time' damages if such a thing exists.

TheyIsMyFamily · 27/02/2021 20:02

@SheldonesqueIsUnwell

Dog dad has sadly fed his spine to the dog.
dying here. Grin
DHdweller · 27/02/2021 20:04

B should be told in no uncertain terms to fuck off

KATismyusername · 27/02/2021 20:06

I'm riveted.

WhoStoleMyCheese · 27/02/2021 20:09

Watching for updates!!!

Cherrysoup · 27/02/2021 20:13

Very unfortunate but cat owner needs to keep her cat in if she doesn’t want injuries. I’m amazed the cat would go in dog owner’s garden, we certainly don’t see any in our garden.

Thesearmsofmine · 27/02/2021 20:13

Cat mum is being ridiculous and I would have told her so. I think if cat dad has come home with a takeaway and not headed straight over then he probably isn’t that annoyed. If he was he would have gone straight to dog mum and dad.

Flowerlane · 27/02/2021 20:23

Dog mum has messaged me and said she thinks she heard raised voices but she can’t be totally sure, then someone stomped up the stairs and a door slammed. I can see the main bedroom light on so someone is in there but unsure which one cat mum or cat dad.

Dog mum also said that Mumsnet could be correct and maybe cat mum broke the leg getting cat down. Dog mum was in the downstairs toilet at the time and by the time she got out to see what was happening the cat mum had a chair and was up leaning over the fence pulling the cat from the tree so she didn’t completely see how the cat was caught, cat mum was screaming ‘my baby is stuck’ while she lent over and yanked it down.

I don’t think much will happen tonight as cat dad got home late and both families have young children who will be asleep by this time so would have thought they wouldn’t want to wake everyone up with a argument.

Tomorrow I have decided to spend the day weeding the front garden and driveway...obviously spring is on its way and I couldn’t think of a better day to do it Wink

AlCalavicci · 27/02/2021 20:25

I agree with everyone else , no way is it Dog mums fault . She need sto make sure her DH does not wimp out and offer to pay towards the bill as it would be seen as accepting liability.

And I have never heard of a cat breaking its leg running up a tree , so as PP have said cat mum may of done it and I am wondering if she realises this and is trying to pass the guilt off as the dogs fault

Waiting for the up date . . . . . .

JayAlfredPrufrock · 27/02/2021 20:28

Your front garden definitely needs attention.

AlCalavicci · 27/02/2021 20:28

Ah missed the update ,
Dog dad wont want his take away to go cold .

Op I think your drive needs weeding and jet washing and the windows need cleaning too dont they ?
Ooh do you have a car . . . . . house of car washing and polishing Grin

Twisty333 · 27/02/2021 20:29

Omg who the F cares about a stupid cat. That neighbour needs to get a life.

AlCalavicci · 27/02/2021 20:29

Ah phooy I meant cat dad Confused

Usernamesarenotmyforte · 27/02/2021 20:33

@Flowerlane remember, frosts are still a risk so you can’t be clearing all the old leaves and foliage quickly and risk new growth... I fear it will be a long day in the garden for you...

Better safe than sorry though.
