Neighbour argument

Name changed🤪

Excuse the length of the post and also any errors as using my phone.

2 neighbours are currently having a argument over a incident that happened this morning.

Neighbour A let her children and her dog out to play this morning in to her own garden neighbour B’s cat was in their garden and got spooked by the kids and the dog. The cat has tried to climb the tree to get over the fence but somehow has managed to get caught. Cat stuck in tree with dog at the bottom barking madly at it. Neighbour A and B have both run out to garden as the noise from the cat and the dog were both very loud. B manages to get the cat untangled by leaning over fence on a chair. Cat obviously has injured its leg and was rushed to the emergency vets.

Now B has knocked on A’s door and said that the cats leg may be broken and its having x rays this afternoon etc she is waiting for a phone call from the vet she then said how would A be paying the bill? Would she pay her or go direct to the vet and pay the bill? Confused
A has stated that she is sorry that the cat has injured itself but she will not be paying as it was a accident and she can not see how she is at fault and has to pay for it.

B has gone mad and said her cat was spooked by her children and dog thats why he got stuck and was struggling to get away from a mad dog so it’s obvious she needs to pay!!

B said she will be back once the vet has phoned to let her know the amount and that if she isn’t prepared to pay she will be taking it to small claims court as it’s A’s fault her cat is injured.

A has asked my opinion as we are friends and whether she is being unreasonable. I think she is in the right and is not being unreasonable at all.

So why I sit and curtain twitchGrinWhat do Mumsnet think is A being unreasonable by not paying the bill?

Cat owner should pay for cat injuries. Not dog owners fault at all!

okokok000 · 27/02/2021 23:01

It's the perils of having a cat. B shouldnpay. Utterly ridiculous that B is effectively trying to police A's use of her own property. Tell A to tell B the cat was trespassing Grin.

okokok000 · 27/02/2021 23:01

And to bugger off!

Whineandwine · 27/02/2021 23:11

Did dog mum own the tree cat was in? Maybe it needs some expensive repairs for damage incurred. Or maybe dog mums child needs therapy for the horrors they were witness too - I mean watching a neighbour break Thayer cats leg could be a bit upsetting for a kid. It’d be convenient if these costs amounted to the same as the vet bill....

TheMatryoshka · 27/02/2021 23:37

I'm sorry that the poor cat got hurt but blimey this is a brilliant thread!

Catmum is a loon, dogdad better not even think of caving

evenBetter · 28/02/2021 00:34

Anyone who releases their cat onto the whims of nature and traffic and the general public by default, does not give a fuck about the animal. Her choice to release it and it inevitably getting injured is on her. Solely her fault, her failure. She should be ashamed of herself.

AnotherKrampus · 28/02/2021 02:08

Poor moggie, living with such a loon who janks it out of a tree! am not surprised that cat dad didn't come over. Thank you for this thread OP. Tomorrow, we might require some illustrations though.

Star81 · 28/02/2021 09:00

I think people are getting worse at the moment with nothing else to focus on as they are still in lockdown.

SheldonesqueIsUnwell · 28/02/2021 09:18

Well I hope catmam is having a bit of a focus on her poor wee broken yanked cat rather than seeing her arse over money. 🐈

Scottishskifun · 28/02/2021 09:28

Why on earth did cat mum yank it out of the tree? If everyone went inside it would have come down on its own accord most likely!

Cat mum should have insurance in the first place I would say it was a accident. Its the nature of roaming cats.
I have never asked my neighbours to pay vet bills from our cats fighting as we all know they are cats! I would probably offer a token payment if my dog caught a cat and caused injury.

Although this has been the most entertaining thread to read I love the picture of you sat in the dark watching the street! 😂

It's the one time where curtain twitching is an absolute must!! 😄

This thread made the 3am night feed much more bearable. Come back this morning to ensure I don't miss any updates today!

We had an equally crazy cat owner next door when we moved into our new house. The 3 houses (I bought the middle one) were all cat lovers so much so they put cat flaps in the fences so their cats could pass easily between the 3 houses. They'd encourage each others cats into the garden and all the cats were friends I assume having some kind of cat social events. Well we moved in with a big dog who barked at their cats and chased them out of our garden and 3 wild boys who the cats didn't like either. Crazy cat owner one side popped her head over the fence one day and said the dog was scaring the cat and she can't cross the garden into the other house to see the other cats so maybe we could work out a schedule so that the cats have safe dog free time to meet each other. I said my dog will use my own garden whenever she likes and suggested she teach her cat to go the other way across the front gardens to meet her friends. She said she couldn't let the cat out the front as she isn't good with roads.

Anyway.. really looking forward to the updates today!

dexterslockedintheshedagain · 28/02/2021 10:06

How's everyone feline today?!

Flowerlane · 28/02/2021 10:11

Morning All! Not heard anything at the momentSad all cars are home though including cat dad so he must be off today.

Very cold here and no sun today so don’t know if I am going to look stupid going out to weed the front...

Put on a parka and a woolly had and weed woman, WEED!

You're all we have!

Whitney168 · 28/02/2021 12:43

Surely if there's been no movement yet, Cat Dad has told Cat Mum not to be so bloody ridiculous?

Get out there and weed!

We need to know if Cat dad calls round to the Dog family.

holibay · 28/02/2021 16:02

This has turned into the biggest disappointment since Game of Thrones.
(Hope the cat is okay though, despite its outrageous owner)

What would you rather OP do? Make something us just to keep us entertained?

That's the nature of real life, updates don't happen like in a soap. Personally I like to think that cat parents are plotting a diabolical revenge which will take some time to implement Grin

SheldonesqueIsUnwell · 28/02/2021 16:10

I’m hoping they are cooking the puss’s favourite meal and are spoiling it.

And cat dad is making catmum some humble pie.

LaurieSchafferIsAllBitterNow · 28/02/2021 16:15

Has the neighbour (catmam) stolen the Old Lady's missing cat? Is she one of those cat stealer people?

LaurieSchafferIsAllBitterNow · 28/02/2021 16:17

sorry...posted too soon...

on the grounds that Old Lady's cat is MIA from its residence and could be a Six Dinner Sid who lives with crazy cat neighbour and the Old Lady.

FixTheBone · 28/02/2021 16:21

If I was A I'd be issuing a formal 7 letter response with three of those letters being the letter 'f'.
