What are your opinions?

I feel that her dual heritage has been used against her, to push her towards Bangladesh.

However, I do feel she is a threat to the general public and it would be incredibly difficult to control/monitor her actions. Which may put the rest of the population at risk.

This is just an open debate. Let’s try not to rip each other apart, more of a healthy debate

@sitandwait
I actually work in (hardcore) marketing.

Wow. Did you just start? Are you sure it's for you?

Thewithesarehere · 27/02/2021 01:17

So presumably there were no terrorists prior to the internet then? How odd! I am fairly sure I remember little groups called the IRA and the Taliban.....
This^.
Homegrown terrorists is a label used to bring home the point that every country should take responsibility of their own actions otherwise we cannot fight terrorism.
It’s a lot like Covid.

VinylDetective · 27/02/2021 01:17

What’s “hardcore marketing”?

Thewithesarehere · 27/02/2021 01:19

@sitandwait
That is not a nice thing to say at all. Been here a very long time and going strong! Though I can say it’s getting too boring and predictable now so I am looking for new challenges.

Thewithesarehere · 27/02/2021 01:22

Lol. Cross posted. Hardcore is the pet name I have given to my work. It’s just good old marketing otherwise, though in an unconventional field. But it’s in an ever growing field so I am at least secure, which I am very grateful for. I am fully aware that i should count my blessings while so many others around me have struggled to hold on to their jobs.

No matter how your opinion differs, making rude and personal comments like this about another poster isn't on, and smacks of not being able to think of a better argument to be honest.

SirChing · 27/02/2021 01:26

That was to @sitandwait, by the way.

@Thewithesarehere sounds interesting! Let me know if there are any jobs going Grin

I’m not sure who you’re talking to here but if by any chance it’s about the comment addressed to Thewithesarehere, it’s not very long since she made personal accusations of bullying and told me I was obtuse. You get what you give, I guess 🤷‍♀️

Grin But jokes aside, threads like these make me worried that we will keep going in circles. It is so predictable right now it’s a bit scary. Sad
Thewithesarehere · 27/02/2021 01:32

@VinylDetective
Not upset on you at all. and I am quite hopeful that you have not answered my question because it has made you think about that issue.
We are all on the same side really.

Clubcleo · 27/02/2021 02:06

Who is paying her legal fees, which must be considerable?

I can imagine she must be in hideous conditions over there but she is a danger to the public. Would you really want her eventually ending up in your city? Honestly, with all the injustices and cruel things that happen in the world, she isn't someone we should give much pity or thought to. Far more deserving causes to devote energy to.

SirChing · 27/02/2021 02:12

I think we will keep going in circles @Thewithesarehere. The lack of critical thought, lack of knowledge of how our own foreign policy has directly funded terrorism and has come back to bite us on the arse, and the conflation taking responsibility for Begum with sympathy for her, is concerning.

I really despair when people take an "I'm alright Jack" approach to situations, which they would go apeshit at if another country tried to do it to us. It is rank hypocrisy and it makes me uncomfortable the number of people who are either ok with that, or aren't able to even see it.

SirChing · 27/02/2021 02:14

"Far more deserving causes to devote energy to"

It's possible to care about more than one thing at a time.

Clubcleo · 27/02/2021 02:20

That's true @SirChing but there's a million more deserving causes than her which you could focus on instead.

SirChing · 27/02/2021 02:23

Well, to point out the obvious, you are on the thread and therefore spending time on her too.

You are also spending time, not only on Begum, but also being concerned about how others on the thread are spending their time. So......you know...

DeeCeeCherry · 27/02/2021 02:37

The government are grandstanding. I see Priti Patel has made her usual tough on crimes automaton statement.

Begum won't be left stateless. She can't be forced to pursue Bangladeshi or EU(via husband) citizenship. She is British and she'll get her British citizenship back eventually. Even if quietly, at first.

Dannydevitoiloveyourart · 27/02/2021 04:35

@Livelovebehappy

Those advocating she be allowed back, I wonder whether they would hold the same view if she was brought back, out on appeal whilst the very slow wheels of the appeals system started up, walked into a stadium and blew the place up killing your son/your daughter/ your sister? She hasn’t changed, as evidenced by her initial interviews, before she had her British citizenship removed. Let her rot where she is.
In what world do you think she would be “out on appeal”? If you’re going to ask hypothetical questions at least base them in a semblance of reality. That’s just nonsensical.

And yes if she was able to commit further crimes in Britain that would be the failing of the British police, homeland security, and justice system. Still our problem though seeing as she’s British. Just as it would be our problem if a convicted British serial killer went on to commit more crimes after serving their sentence.

JackieWeaverHandforthCouncil · 27/02/2021 04:36

I’m torn. She’s was radicalised on the internet as a child. There was a lad from Cornwall who narrowly escaped jail a couple of weeks ago after being radicalised by right wing extremists on the internet when he was 13 but he’s going nowhere. I suspect he’ll come to London with a nail bomb at some point.

I don’t know what to think. She’s a danger to me and mine so I don’t really want her here. However, she was born here and radicalised here so she’s our problem. If there was a way they could have her back but she was monitored for life including her internet and phone access full KGB style then maybe it could work?

Advic3Pl3as3 · 27/02/2021 05:15

People are confusing grooming, child trafficking and radicalisation. They are not interchangeable terms. They mean completely different things.

She was radicalised.

Peanutbutterblood · 27/02/2021 05:37

I havent read all 16 pages of this thread but I really hope they never let her back. She will do more harm then good.

Theunamedcat · 27/02/2021 05:54

Is she actually convicted of a crime?

She is unrepentant i dont want her here i think she is a huge risk plus if we can keep jihad Jack out we should be able to keep her out she has zero remorse if she hadn't ended up in the camp she would have carried on doing what she was doing

lunalucie · 27/02/2021 05:55

If we start forgiving everyone who has been radicalised then we'd be forgiving terrorists such as the Manchester Arena bombers. They've all been radicalised, no one is born a terrorist so what's the cut off point for sympathy?

Also I find it hard to believe that Isis would just let her walk away with the amount of knowledge she has. How can anyone fully trust that she's telling the truth and would you risk her living near you knowing what she's done? It will cost the taxpayer too much to monitor her and it's a waste of resources plus it's about time the government started sending a tougher message out to terrorists and this might make someone think twice.

It isn't about forgiveness. Whether you or I forgive someone is neither here nor there, this is about a country's responsibility to its citizens and the international community.
