i’ve used MN for years, and i often think about particular threads or posters that stuck out to me or i interacted with ages ago that i haven’t been able to find (or just seemed to stop posting without a trace) since then.

anyone else get strangely nostalgic/curious thinking back to threads/posters and wonder what became of them?
@mxmxm I think we are thinking if the same one. There were quite a few pictures of 'her son' on it. Just awful.

@cattypussclaw I was so furious on Twittlebees behalf reading her posts. I really hope it was resolved and in her favour.
i always wondered who the little boy ‘she’ used as her ‘son’ (because let’s be honest, it may not even have been a woman, who knows) really was, because the boy in the photos was clearly very sick and in hospital. i hope he’s okay, whoever and wherever he is

Not a long thread but there is/was a woman who has posted a few times about how her daughter was murdered by her (the daughter’s) partner. That sticks in my mind.

LadyRenoir · 26/02/2021 22:19

Yes, there was a post last year about a lady who was in NZ or Australia, running past a house with all windows covered by newspapers and weird messages, and was unable to find it on Google maps, and people suggested some sort of crime may have happened there. I probably got loads of details wrong, but I tried to find that post a few days later got an update and could not locate it.

WillBillHal · 26/02/2021 22:22

I often think about the poster who's DD died which led to the Mile for Maud - must be at least 12 years ago. Someone earlier spoke about when MNetters came together and that was certainly one of those moments. Would also love to know how Riven and her DD are.

GCAcademic · 26/02/2021 22:23

@JosieJarker

I think redtoothbrush posts on the fwr board.
That’s a different poster. The one @ChippyDucks150 means had a similar name, I think, and a truly awful relationship where she wasn’t allowed to wear red or brush her teeth. She embraced her liberty by getting herself a red toothbrush.
Medoc · 26/02/2021 22:32

@WillBillHal Mile For Maud was about 16 years ago, wasn't ? Fairly sure I was pregnant.

LadyRenoir · 26/02/2021 22:32

Also, a thread about a lady who posted about being drugged and raped after a night out and how the abuser sent her back home... I remember she said she finally told her husband about the horrific experience, but I never went back to see if she updated anything else.

FelicityBeedle · 26/02/2021 22:34

I remember one recently, the posters DH had woken up quite confused and was admitted to hospital, but his confusion wasn’t evident if you didn’t know him? I tried to track it down a few weeks back but couldn’t

EachBleachBlairTrump Are you thinking of this thread? www.mumsnet.com/Talk/relationships/3625387-Husband-having-affair

Pukkatea · 26/02/2021 22:37

Haven't read thread and hope I'm not opening a can of worms for people who were as annoyed by it as I was, but that bloody joke about someone walking up the post office steps pops into my head regularly.

JosieJarker · 26/02/2021 22:43

Thanks for the clarification GCAcademic, I really hope that woman is ok.
Really awful what some people go through and how bloody horrible some men can be to make buying a red toothbrush an act of freedom.

GeordieGreigsButtButtZoom · 26/02/2021 22:45

Boswell was an excellent troll.

It wasn't really a joke as such. It was about the concept of finding one's own truth and meaning. So in that sense, you literally cannot tell anyone because once you do, you're influencing them and preventing them from finding their own interpretation. You can't tell people how they perceive something.

It's a sort of paradox I guess, much like the sentence "this is a lie". It's not impossible to explain, though. Nor is it particularly interesting.

She was so brave. She’d been totally ground down and treated like dirt by that evil man but she managed to find the strength she needed to leave. Her update after her escape remains one of the best things I’ve ever read on here.
JosieJarker · 26/02/2021 22:59

GCAcademic thats so lovely I hope she's still free Flowers

greendress789 · 26/02/2021 23:01

Cupoftea and baby Bea. Wonder what happened to her.

Thamigumathacharaid · 26/02/2021 23:05

One that sticks in my mind was an AMA. OP was the OW with an older man but he'd left his wife and had married the OW. They worked together and she was unable to advance in the company because of his position as a director or something. She seemed quite smug and kept going on about how amazing her life was but there always seemed to be an air of sadness. I hope she's well and that he stayed faithful.

Bluntness100 · 26/02/2021 23:05

Two threads stay with me, one for funny reasons one for sad ones.

The funny one was the lady who screamed at the ceiling in the Sistine chapel, it properly creased me up.

The sad one was the one where the ops husband was anally raping her. She was bleeding. Snd she was going to stay. And I think it was real. It’s stayed with me it was so so disturbing.

LittleJennyWren.

She was a very young, scared mum who was in the late stages of terminal cancer.

flappityflippers1 · 26/02/2021 23:09

I’m fairly new to MN so not sure if I’m allowed to name threads that have been taken down... but I often think about the Tom thread. I was so so shocked that was a troll - it never occurred to me people would spend so much time making shit up!

mxmxm · 26/02/2021 23:09

@flappityflippers1 what was the Tom thread??

OP posts:
RoseyOldCrow · 26/02/2021 23:10

ChristinaYang's Twisted Sista stands out in my mind, I often think of her. Don't think she was in the UK.
She gave great advice & was funny, but unfortunately had a traumatic experience with her cheating DP - I remember her saying that she never thought she would be in that position.
Initially she was broken, last I recall is her pulling things together for her & her DC.
I hope she has found the peace she deserves.

StarRabbit · 26/02/2021 23:12

The one with the young pregnant poster who wanted to take a very expensive pushchair to Spain to show off to her family and wouldn't take advice about taking a cheap stroller in case it gets damaged. Would love to know what she did.

icecreamgirl94 · 26/02/2021 23:22

@BessMarvin yes that’s her. I don’t know the details of why she was banned as I only know her through friends and I wasn’t on mumsnet myself at the time. She was friends with another user who stopped speaking to her after she was banned so maybe that had something to do with it, or maybe the friend believed she’d been conned. As I say, this poster was absolutely genuine and found the site very supportive. Unfortunately she’s not in a good place at all right now.

GoodbyeRosie · 26/02/2021 23:23

One for me was the poster who had come to realise there was something serious wrong with her husbands brother and mother..basically she left her young daughter with the brother, and returned to find her naked from the waist down. Loads of ridiculous excuses followed..and a lot of things fell into place.

Horrifyingly, her DH sided the brother & mother in denying anything happened, and the OP realised she really didn't know her husband, her BIL was very likely a paedophile and the mother covered it up.

The OP wanted to run a mile, but any custody meant her daughter would spend time away from her, and in the clutches of the dodgy family.

I never did find out what she decided to do.

LadyPenelope68 · 26/02/2021 23:24

@SymphonyofShadows
The most chilling part for me was when she was talking about his behaviour, and that, if there was any old food in the fridge, he’d make her eat it.
That was the one I was going to mention, I always wonder what happened to that poor lady ☹️
