to ask if you ever wonder about certain posters/threads?

i’ve used MN for years, and i often think about particular threads or posters that stuck out to me or i interacted with ages ago that i haven’t been able to find (or just seemed to stop posting without a trace) since then.

anyone else get strangely nostalgic/curious thinking back to threads/posters and wonder what became of them?

OP posts:
Allmyarseandpeggymartin · 26/02/2021 15:56

There was a poster in coronavirus called cute kittens or something similar who used to come on the threads repeatedly and say that her mental health wouldn’t survive another lockdown - I hope she’s okay

BrimFullOfAsher · 26/02/2021 15:56

A few where MNHQ take them down to have a look behind the scenes, but then never find out what happened or if they get reinstated or not

Teapotsandtablecloths · 26/02/2021 15:57

Mines quite a recent one it was a lady who's username i think was Wardrobes or something like that. Her DH was unwell with covid, then into ICU and he was getting quite unwell and i lost the thread after that. I've often wondered how he is and how she is coping.

PearlescentIridescent · 26/02/2021 16:00

There was a poster called something like SeaOfDespair and their story made me so sad. I felt there was so much more to the story than she was willing or able to admit (as it got to the point where she had denied any issues whatsoever regarding her DC that the story ended up being taken into care despite having a lovely clean home, decorated bedrooms, and she was paying for counselling for either her or her DC or something).

I'll never forget it and think on her sometimes. She didn't come across as a troll at all but clearly there were some deep issues if her poor DC were removed. She stopped updating as far as I'm aware and I wonder now and then if a similar topic IRL comes up what happened there, and if she was ever able to confront why her DC were really taken into care.

Sometimes you can tell really easily when someone is a troll like the thread that was deleted today, but, regardless of the reason, I fully believe this poster's pain and lack of understanding of her situation was real.

@Puddymuddle

Did the Victorian safe ever get opened? Grin
I’d forgotten about that one.
StanfordPines · 26/02/2021 16:02

@AndOffFlewMyLastFuck

I remember someone who's user name was one red sock or something, one night she was riding round on the buses just trying to keep warm. I do hope she has found some happiness Also there was a young lass who posted alot, she had one son and then found out she was pregnant, went on to have a daughter and then stopped posting. She was quite gobby but in a really nice way This is going back years mind .
I remember her. Something like Odd Socks and High Heels.

I think the safe was opened and nothing inside!

I wonder about posters from quite ago who have been through very difficult times and name changed. I'm fairly sure that if they wanted people to be updated, they would update them, so I'm assuming they actually just want privacy.

Turfaccountant · 26/02/2021 16:11

The one whose neighbour would blame her for puddles on the said neighbours patio. Escalated to police involvement etc but seems to have ended

AndOffFlewMyLastFuck · 26/02/2021 16:12

That's her @StanfordPines Well remembered! I do hope she is OK, she had such a hard time, she deserves to be happy

HeyDemonsItsYaGirl · 26/02/2021 16:14

PurpleCrocuses That's exactly it. It's not just that she's made up a imaginary life but that she uses it to sneer at other posters and make them feel like shit. Somebody posts because they're struggling with their children and she will come along and brag about her (fictional) children with 104 degrees between them and a combined salary of £2.5bn. It's not just harmless fantasising. And when people are deleted and banned for similar lies (like the made-up thing about Chester Zoo, for example) it's so bizarre that MNHQ actively defends and protect her.

thetapison · 26/02/2021 16:15

What ever happened to those strange thigh women? I liked those agony aunt threads.

MrsJackRackham · 26/02/2021 16:16

@AndOffFlewMyLastFuck I think you mean EatShitDerek. I think she got banned, can't remember why now. I liked her, she was funny and had a very distinctive writing style.

randomer · 26/02/2021 16:17

I wonder about the one I responded to this morning and I wonder about the people offering kind advice. I wonder about the person who offered to help the OP start up a business.
Its mind boggling.

Sparklingbrook · 26/02/2021 16:19

In all honesty-no.

I keep up with a thread if it interests me but if it disappears or drops out of my Active list then I don't give it a second thought.

I do have lots of topics hidden, maybe ones there would be a long running saga say in Relationships I wouldn't see them.

Maybe my attention span is rubbish. Grin

Medoc · 26/02/2021 16:19

The poster whose partner through their infant son onto the sofa in anger.
The poster who was sleeping on the window sill.
The poster whose mother was a SW and reported her to SS maliciously.

All posters who have had a child (and even children plural in some cases) die. I think of the ones I 'know' regularly Thanks

Glamflimfloogety · 26/02/2021 16:21

I remember a post where the OP was convinced she was pregnant, despite multiple negative tests and a negative blood test. She'd booked a private scan as the hospital wouldn't give her one (due to the negative blood test) but never came back to reveal the result.

I can't remember if she was a troll or not. If not, I really hope she got the help she needed.

Here you go. He's still fighting www.mumsnet.com/Talk/_chat/4140977-Wardrobes-DH-ICU?msgid=105067420
HeyDemonsItsYaGirl · 26/02/2021 16:24

Whenever child reins come up, I always think of the poster who lost a child in a traffic accident because her husband didn't use reins that day. I'm sure she's saved some children's lives though her posts on the topic.

WithMyOldCockLinnet · 26/02/2021 16:24

I think about the poster who escaped an abusive DH - he had video cameras installed all over the house.

Her thread started with an upset over a ruined birthday for her 8 year old because the DH said she had been too long collecting the cake.

Then it all came out about the cameras, the boy being homeschooled, and she was pregnant.

She left, escaped while he was at work, and went to stay with family.

During the various proceedings she found out that he was actually a bigamist and was using a false name. He had put all their loans in her name.

I think her baby was due last June.

I really hope she is ok.

Yesididmeantobesorude · 26/02/2021 16:24

@PurpleCrocuses

If that was the only lie she had ever told that would be one thing, but, oh, god, there are so, so many. She absolutely is and was a troll, whether her brand of trolling is as immediately harmful as pretending a wife has cancer or not.

Absolutely. That poster was a massive fantasist, and it's bizarre that she was treated like MN royalty and seemingly untouchable.

What was the latest? That she was part of Boris Johnson's COVID response team, had been one of the first people in the UK to be given a COVID test, and that she'd written multiple books during lockdown (while simultaneously chairing meetings at 10 Downing Street, fighting Covid, homeschooling her ever-changing number of genius ballerina/medical student children, and running her idyllic rural village with an iron fist) which were so amazing she'd instantly landed a publishing deal with a major publishing house without an agent?

I feel sorry for her but there are so many incidents of her being just awful and completely snotty and judgemental, especially on threads about income, child-rearing and SEN. Even threads about things like book publishing or ballet got derailed away from posters who actually work in those industries and give useful advice, by this utter fantasist who'd clearly never spoken to a publisher or been inside a ballet school in her life.

Who are you talking about? Why can't you name the poster?
RedLlama · 26/02/2021 16:25

I think she had a name change fail, and was proven to of made the whole lot up
longtompot · 26/02/2021 16:26

Whoops, crossposted.

One post that stood out for me was when I first started coming on here. A poster posted about their child who had some huge bruises on them for no known reason. My first thought was leukaemia and then the posted said it was that. Then, after a few more pages, they disappeared and turns out they were a troll. I was really upset at the thought that a child was so ill, and then that we were all lied to.
