i’ve used MN for years, and i often think about particular threads or posters that stuck out to me or i interacted with ages ago that i haven’t been able to find (or just seemed to stop posting without a trace) since then.

anyone else get strangely nostalgic/curious thinking back to threads/posters and wonder what became of them?

OP posts:
hiptobeasquare · 04/03/2021 22:37

@Mrsfrumble the one I was thinking about was 3 boys. And the OP was in talks with SS to take the youngest who was 5. Her own children were teenagers I think.

mineofuselessinformation · 04/03/2021 22:44

@Elderflower14, thank you for linking that - it properly made me laugh, which I could desperately do with these days!

IWantMyHoney · 04/03/2021 22:58

All the time. I'm a serial name changer but have been here 10 years. I remember lots of names from around the time I joined that I no longer see around anymore.
One post in particular always stuck with me, a mnetter was really struggling with how her house had become, overwhelmed by how much there was to do. A team of local mumsnetters went round to do it with her, cleaning and decluttering every room. It was so heartwarming. Some people who lived too far away to help, had ordered pizzas to be delivered at lunchtime.

@IWantMyHoney yes this! I remember this poster so clearly, the thread (I think there were several) stuck with me and I posted about it on this thread but no one responded. I really wish I could remember the poster's name.

She was really struggling, but she battled on and kept posting and showed amazing courage and strength. The day that other mumsnetters travelled to help her was a great day to be part of mumsnet.

@HeyGirlHeyBoy

BoreofWhabylon that Jon quote has really lifted me this week Smile Thank you.
It really works, doesn't it Smile

Theres a troll who is always posting about taking in sisters children

I was just about to post that. Sometimes it's a slight variation, a friend's children but basically the same troll style.

pangolina · 05/03/2021 07:00

There was one a few years ago by a poster called MrsHenryWinter, whose husband was trying to get her pregnant against her will. As the thread went on it became apparent how horribly controlling he was. I hope she got away.

HollowTalk · 05/03/2021 07:41

@Wrongsideofhistorymyarse

LittleJennyWren.

She was a very young, scared mum who was in the late stages of terminal cancer.

Pretty sure that was a troll.
GBand · 05/03/2021 08:48

I think the Mner who received the help to tidy/declutter was TrinityRhino

sapnupuas · 05/03/2021 08:50

Probably been mentioned but the poster who was left a piece of land and the people who lived next to it had fenced some off and tried to claim it as unwanted.

GirlLovesWorld · 05/03/2021 09:16

I thought LittleJennyWren was a troll too - at least I think that was said in a thread similar to this a few years back. Which I was relieved about really because I found her thread almost unbearable to read. I think I might have hidden it in the end.

HollowTalk · 05/03/2021 10:03

It was probably me who said it then, too, @GirlLovesWorld! I know it wasn't deleted, but when you look at that thread and compare it to the devastating threads where people are really suffering, it was very obviously fake.

Yes, I'm pretty sure too.
GirlLovesWorld · 05/03/2021 13:29

Yeah, there was something very 'writerly' about her posts. She didn't seem to have hospital visits, seems to be just lying on her sofa watching her toddler play. It was quite upsetting for people with kids the same age I think. What the actual fuck are people thinking when they do that? What their life must be like to need to gain attention in that way.

TheUnheard · 05/03/2021 13:36

If LJW was a troll (and I hope not) I still think the thread has a place. It was hauntingly well written if untrue but made me think. Whatever the intention IF fake it certainly raised awareness

GirlLovesWorld · 05/03/2021 13:40

Awareness of what? That people die?

HollowTalk · 05/03/2021 13:46

It wasn't hauntingly well written at all! She was trying to pump emotion out of the readers and doing it in a really obvious way.

TheUnheard · 05/03/2021 13:48

For me, awareness of cancer in younger people. I hadn’t ever thought of it the image I had was of older people not a young mum. I hope she wasn’t a troll though
GirlLovesWorld · 05/03/2021 13:48

Well that's what I meant though - that it didn't seem like real life. People who are very ill have hospital appointments etc, she just seemed to be lying on her couch being sad. That's what I meant by 'writerly' not that it was good, but that it was written and not lived.

TheUnheard · 05/03/2021 13:49

Cant MNHQ check if the account was ever used again ? There was no update I’d have thought of you put that much effort in you’d carry it through but there was never any update ?

I know what you mean but I wouldn’t like to call it either way because she really coukd have been real and that was her focus the days at home
GirlLovesWorld · 05/03/2021 13:54

Yeah it could have been real. Probably best not to discuss it any more really. I hope it wasn't, it made me really sad at the time. I'd prefer it not to be.

HollowTalk · 05/03/2021 13:55

All of her posts have been deleted now so presumably MNHQ saw something there.

Oh I only re read it the other day are they gone now

Yes it was really sad. I suppose what I take away from it is if real it’s heartbreaking, if not then still, heartbreaking for those who really do go through similar. Sad all round
