i’ve used MN for years, and i often think about particular threads or posters that stuck out to me or i interacted with ages ago that i haven’t been able to find (or just seemed to stop posting without a trace) since then.

anyone else get strangely nostalgic/curious thinking back to threads/posters and wonder what became of them?

OP posts:

That was lifted from an Alexander McCall Smith , 122 Scotland Street series book
Really, how disappointing that it wasn't real. What happens in the book?

PepeSilviaDoesNotExist · 01/03/2021 10:14

It’s probably already been mentioned but I always wonder about the lady that had a flat in a listed building and her neighbours put french doors into her courtyard and totally disregarding the fact it was a listed building. The council got involved and were going to restore her neighbours property back to how it should be.

I remember someone saying it was a troll thread but I have seen others say it wasn’t. Would love to know if she got her courtyard back and everything sorted in the end.

@Elderflower14 whhhaaaaat? Who made it clear? Miserable bastards, you hold them down and I'll pull their hair
So sorry to hear about Bummbledog,

Sorry its the 44 Scotland Street series, which are a series of books set in a block of flats in Edinburgh. In one a minor character Antonia goes to the Uffizi and ends up with Stendhal syndrome and recuperates in a nunnery. It was the authors ruse to get her out of the way. I think the books are sometimes published in a Scottish newspaper in bit parts

AuntieMabel, Soda bread Dolphins -& Techno - TrickyTreeLou stopped posting after an issue she'd raised escalated irl (nothing dangerous). All has calmed down now. She's doing well, as is her little boy.

SabrinaTheMiddleAgedBitch · 01/03/2021 15:03

Unfortunately it's mainly sad threads that stick in my head, people who have lost children etc I often wonder how the posters involved are doing now.

I also think of Zombie often. Rip lovely lady

bearlyactive · 01/03/2021 15:40

@MrsMackesy

A woman lost her wife to cancer. They had recently had a baby. I wonder how they are both doing.
If we're thinking of the same person, I'm still in touch with her now and again (mainly on the anniversary of her DW's death), she and her DS appear to be doing well. I think about them often and light a candle for the DW sometimes.
MrsMackesy · 01/03/2021 15:50

Thank you, @bearlyactive - I can't remember her username unfortunately but the thread and the family have stayed with me. If she's still on here and reading this Flowers and Bear

@AndOffFlewMyLastFuck and @Elderflower14 I'll hold the handbags!

Miserable people. Please post as you want. They don't own the site!

GBand · 01/03/2021 18:36

@Elderflower14 I used to love hearing about Wilf and Bumbledog. You always seemed like such a great Mum. Thanks

Elderflower14 · 01/03/2021 18:55

I can say on here that Wilf is very happy. He moved into a flat on his own almost two years ago. He was a test run for the charity that runs his housing. He had grown out of the shared house. He very much enjoys having his own space. He has lovely neighbours and friends and they have been a godsend during lockdown. My sister bought him the Ring Security System so he can see who's at the front door. He has specialist safety equipment. A vibrating alarm clock and carbon monoxide alarm under his pillow and a vibrating wristband connected to the doorbell and smoke alarm.
He has a very good social life. He has lots of gay friends and loves going clubbing with them. He had a fab night out with Divinia from Ru Paul's Drag Race and he has made friends with lots of other Drag Queens too.
He has been made an ambassador for two charities. Follow Your Dreams in Wales and also Curlys Farm on The Isle of Sheppey.

@Ginger1982 that poster was me, came off Mumsnet after that.

Anyway, myself and my kids managed to get away, had no contact, am not going to say life is great but we are getting there. We didn't get joey back, mainly because I lost touch with the amazing lady who took him because I had to change all contact numbers, and also because I couldn't get anywhere to be housed with a dog, we were devastated, but we know joey is loving his new home from the updates I received. I'll always be grateful to that mumsnetter. ❤️ Thankyou for thinking of me xx

This update has made my day. Smile

Not sure if she was on mumsnet but does anyone remember ebonyhamster from DS. She posted as tinktinktinkerbell on other forums too. I think she died a few years ago Sad

OnlyTheLangoftheTitBerg · 01/03/2021 20:02

I used to lurk on the BESH threads in Conception, and silently cheer whenever one of them got updiffed. I often wonder if the various BESH who dropped off the threads over the years ever had the children they so longed for.

My favourite troll thread was a few years back in Relationships. A woman claimed she’d found evidence her husband was having an affair and the OW apparently wanted to shag him while wearing the OP’s wedding dress. It was classic troll; real time updates, OP sorting her new life out astonishingly quickly and a supportive “lovely friend” and unsurprisingly it went poof, but not before a few hundred people had been sucked in. I remember it in particular for two reasons: it spawned a brilliant parody thread (which was sadly deleted for being a TAAT) and a poster namechanged to LovelyFriend, which always made me chuckle whenever I saw her on threads afterwards.

MamOfTwo · 01/03/2021 20:10

I'm not sure anyone will remember this as quite some time ago but it has stuck in my head - a woman thought her daughter had returned to university after a weekend visit but a day or so later she found the daughter was actually in her bedroom having suffered a serious medical episode. Posters were incredulous she hadn't realised the daughter was still in the house. She was so distraught over it all. I sincerely hope the daughter made a full recovery.

I remember her. So many people thought she was a troll. She was someone real, with mental health issues. She died very young (30ish), may she rest in peace.
**@LookingForSalt* I've reported your post about AF* as it's untue.
Really? It is exactly true. What makes you say it isn't? Probably you didn't see the thread? Anyway, I am neither pro or against any poster on here, I just remember that thread bc it was a strong statement from MN.

BoreOfWhabylon · 01/03/2021 20:55

The bit about the multiple usernames. I don't remember that and AnyFucker has denied it on this thread.

StepOutOfLine · 01/03/2021 21:08

I was on that thread when AF was temporarily suspended.

I also reported your post yesterday. And it was deleted. As was mine referencing yours, which is fair enough.

StepOutOfLine · 01/03/2021 21:09

@LookingForSalt.

StepOutOfLine · 01/03/2021 21:19

PS that "strong statement from HQ" is in Site Stuff. 24/10/13.
You're wrong.

AnyFucker · 01/03/2021 21:39

I have already corrected you @LookingForSalt

HQ have never accused me of having multiple usernames because it is actually untrue. Being a bit of an arse and having had several warnings...bang to rights on that one. It seems to me though that you are implying much more Machiavellian intent which is patently untrue. If that was the case, I am sure that instead of a few suspensions I would actually be irrevocably banned. Which may be what you hope for by trying to make mud stick, who knows

Any time you want to apologise is fine, however

FirstladyKirkman · 01/03/2021 21:49

Ahhh there was a lovely one a while ago where the OP walked past an office building everyday and saw this guy in an office (maybe reception desk) and had developed a bit of a crush on him and didn't know whether to say hello/ask him out etc. She constantly updated every single day without fail and I became totally invested in. If I remember rightly she eventually took the bull by the horns and asked him, but he was he already had an OH, but he was rather lovely about it all. As was she. I hope she found someone ❤️
