Yes the guy lost his mother in a tragic way at a young age. (So have many) Yes he was forced out into the public eye in the middle of grief (which was horrific at the time and worse on reflection) BUT he is now an adult man with a family and access to life of extreme privilege yet he cannot seem to realise that him publically complaining about his lot in life and telling the rest of us how to behave is distasteful. Also, the petulant way he seems to communicate with the media is just undelining his immaturity and lack of awareness. By which I mean, the potshots in statements and rapping with James Corden and his pathetic man of the people schtick. If you want to be Hazzer give up your title and STFU!

I'm happy not to be paying for them anymore and grateful that they have so publicly exposed the fact that we don't really need a royal family anymore

We are still paying for them indirectly through Charles who uses every creative accounting trick in the book to minimise his tax liability and therefore his contribution to the public purse. Anything he subs them can be off-set against his tax bill.

I agree with the rest though. Harry and his hideous uncle have played a blinder for the republicans.

CounsellorTroi · 26/02/2021 11:21

Harry and Megan are the only relevant ones

Why?

Ohnomoreno · 26/02/2021 11:22

Yep. Wants it all on his terms.

Aspiringmatriarch · 26/02/2021 11:22

I've just watched it, he came across really well. Literally what is your problem?? What is he meant to be doing differently?

LakieLady · 26/02/2021 11:22

As a republican, I'm finding all the fuss and outrage quite hilarious (while also struggling to find a fuck to give).

Are all the people having a pop at the Sussexes pro-royal? If so, I wonder if part of the outrage is because the Sussexes have opted out.

This could all have been prevented if only we'd abolished the monarchy. Wink

the80sweregreat · 26/02/2021 11:22

I heard today on a radio news item that he told James Cordon that his mental health was suffering and his life previously was toxic.
Many people can sympathize with this , but what many can't do is pack up for a new life and live in a lovely home in a nice area with lots of money with someone who loves them.
This is why I can't listen to either of these two as they have no idea about real struggles that others , us ordinary people , have with mental health issues. They are given tablets and maybe some talking therapy , if they are lucky.
They have both spoken about climate change in the past yet Oprah Winfrey has interviewed them both after flying by private jet!
The double standards are breathtaking.
I'm glad his happier now , not don't ever think everyone can do what you have done to make your life more bearable. Sadly people can't.

feesh · 26/02/2021 11:27

I kind of understand them leaving, but I don’t believe that he is “tied to a life of public service” as he claimed in the Corden interview. He could have gone and done a masters in conservation or something (and yes it would be largely honorary, given that he has no bachelor’s degree) and taken on a leadership role in an African conservation charity, or similar, hunkering down for a quiet life until everyone else has forgotten about them - it can be done. To leave citing press intrusion and then to court some of the biggest international media outlets seems bonkersly hypocritical to me.

DayBath · 26/02/2021 11:28

What I don't understand is why he complains about the media then turns around and gives exclusive interviews. Is it correct that he's in talks to do Oprah? Why would you do a talk show interview if the media was essentially responsible for your mother's death. Confused

OldRailer · 26/02/2021 11:28

I think he was just on my radio 5 minute news at 11! So funny after this thread.Grin

They still need to earn a living I suppose. It's not like he can rejoin the army, or get a job in Tesco.
DayBath · 26/02/2021 11:30

You said it better than me @feesh, exactly what I was thinking.

Also it appears I'm behind the times and he's already done the Oprah interview. Anyone who talks to her is pretty much trash in my opinion, she's an awful woman who barely deserves the title of journalist.

MuddleMoo · 26/02/2021 11:32

The TV people will have done lots of research into ratings and stuff. They will show if people are interested or not. People are clearly interested or they'd be turned down for interviews.

OldRailer · 26/02/2021 11:35

That sort of research brings us Celebrity Dog Grooming Island. It wears itself out.

I think they must be. The monarchy is on shaky ground - how much longer will we tolerate them? And Harry has taken a big step towards starting to dismantle it I think.

Yet people are watching dog grooming. When they stop they won't make any more.
JamesMiddletonsMarshmallows · 26/02/2021 11:40

YANBU.

I am actually a Royalist and was always a Harry fan but lately his lack of self awareness is astonishing. Preaching about white privilege? Are you ducking kidding me. He's literally one of the most privileged white people in the world. His family have stayed where they are by oppressing the masses. And he has the nerve to think can check other people's privilege. Stay in your lane, Harry.

PrelovedWithValue · 26/02/2021 11:41

Yep. Wants it all on his terms

You say that like it's somehow unique, and yet I suspect most of us want things on our terms...

JamesMiddletonsMarshmallows · 26/02/2021 11:44

Also...unpopular opinion....but whilst the press treated Diana terribly towards the end of her life (down to his grandma revoking her security privileges, people forget that) she was a woman who very much courted the press when it suited her. I also imagine she was a nightmare to be married to. I watched a documentary of the "unheard tapes" where she said everything was terrible, everything was the worst day of her life (including her wedding), everyone was awful, everything was hard, and she admitted to reacting violently to events in her personal life and threatening to do all sorts. If Charles had come on MN we'd be telling him to leave her and she needs help. I guess my point is she wasn't the innocent she made herself out to be. Not especially relevant to Harry, except that must have been quite a nasty divorce and he was no doubt exposed to so much conflict. So I do feel sorry for him as well, and William (who seems far more rounded).

StormzyinaTCup · 26/02/2021 11:46

I had high hopes for Harry and Meghan being a change for good in the RF. Unfortunately, that didn’t happen and they sought a life away from public gaze and to do their own thing - fair enough I wouldn’t want to be born into or married into the royal family for anything, so I get that.

What is disappointing and where they lose any respect I had for them is that they have sold out to the highest bidder in pretty much everything they have done since (Netflix etc) and are now going to through a grenade into the mix with their Oprah interview (which is also going to make Oprah a shed load of extra money, she is a canny business woman and can spot a good money making opportunity when she sees it) .

They are being used by the same publicity and media bandwagon that they were so desperate to leave. Its naive at best and self centred and hypocritical at worst and will probably backfire on them hugely.

LyingWitchInTheWardrobe · 26/02/2021 11:47

Reminds me of that poem by Antigonish...
"As I was going up the stair,
I met a man who wasn't there.

He wasn't there again today.
I wish, I wish, he'd go away..."

You notice him more because he irritates you. I find that coming to terms with the existence of irritating people frees you up to focus on the ones you like.

Sparklingbrook · 26/02/2021 11:48

William might be more 'rounded' but compared to Harry he doesn't seem much fun. Maybe he is but as heir to the throne he can't let the guard down in public.

OldRailer · 26/02/2021 11:54

Harry's idea of fun was dressing up as a nazi. I can't get past that tbh.

TheKeatingFive · 26/02/2021 11:55

I don’t understand this particular criticism (there’s a surprise)

Why wouldn’t they work with Netflix? They are pretty much the market leader right now, most people in the business are keen to partner with them.

JamesMiddletonsMarshmallows · 26/02/2021 11:55

@PicsInRed

Prince Harry married a Black woman.

People racists who like to think they're not got angry.

The end.

What a load of absolute shite.
Cocolapew · 26/02/2021 11:55

I don't understand the just ignore them if they annoy you posts. If everyone did that about everyday trivial stuff MN would have about 5 threads.
There was 2 threads running yesterday about Gordon Ramsay/and his quiz show. Nobody seemed bothered by the slagging he was getting.
I could never stand the Nazi uniform wearing twat and personally think Megan married beneath herself.
