AIBU to think that Prince Harry is coming across as the most tone deaf and hypocritical member of the RF right now?

Yes the guy lost his mother in a tragic way at a young age. (So have many) Yes he was forced out into the public eye in the middle of grief (which was horrific at the time and worse on reflection) BUT he is now an adult man with a family and access to life of extreme privilege yet he cannot seem to realise that him publically complaining about his lot in life and telling the rest of us how to behave is distasteful. Also, the petulant way he seems to communicate with the media is just undelining his immaturity and lack of awareness. By which I mean, the potshots in statements and rapping with James Corden and his pathetic man of the people schtick. If you want to be Hazzer give up your title and STFU!
@JingsMahBucket and how do you know this about the real identities of posters on an internet forum?
It's often as obvious as, for e.g., when a man posts on Mumsnet pretending to be a woman, with "refreshing" anti woman, anti feminist or pro violent act type views.

There are, in addition to incel sentiments, 🤔 obvious tells the imposter doesn't see, cannot see themself - they're blind to how they stand out. They cant help but express how they view the world, in the manner that they have experienced the world, which ends up uncanny valley on a thread with actual lived women of even the most diverse backgrounds. They don't "fit".

They are the autotune of posters.

Cloudbeeb · 27/02/2021 11:54

Anyone who thinks the media over there isn't as bad has clearly never read US Magazine or InTouch. Both vast sellers still. And don't get me started on TMZ/Splash News/Bauer-Griffin, they're literally in their town now.'

I would say newspapers were different than magazines, in that you buy those sort of mags only if you're interested in gossip, newspapers are consumed by many more people, and a lot do consider them to be more factual.

JingsMahBucket · 27/02/2021 12:00
This LBC radio presenter deserves a medal in my book. I wonder if the caller was a MNer...
Her answer to the caller is exactly how I feel. I continually wonder why posters here and elsewhere cast MM as a woman who has ensnared Harry and he is so daft and useless that he is incapable of thinking for himself.

(I suggest you don't watch it if you don't want to hear MM robustly defended against pathetic criticism. Everyone else... ENJOY!)

@Roussette thanks for sharing that. Natasha Devon is wonderful. First time I've heard of her.

MuddleMoo · 27/02/2021 12:01

@Janegrey333

He is so embarrassing. Can’t bear to see his face. Or hers.
You might want to seek out therapy if they have that strong an impact on you.
BagnoldSummer · 27/02/2021 12:03

I thought the JC show was a very slick piece of PR.

Agree with previous posters that giving details about the Queen's relationship with Archie was tacky. Hard to maintain strong bonds with his family in the UK if he is going to breach their privacy.

phoenixrosehere · 27/02/2021 12:05

I’ve read those, grew up watching TMZ in the States and they are not as ridiculous as the British tabloids. The Daily Mail and The Sun remind me of the American National Enquirer except Americans tend to read them for a laugh and no one takes them seriously whereas that doesn’t seem the case in the U.K.

Comfortzone · 27/02/2021 12:09

It's all a bit cry me a river, IMO. I mean ffs there are families in real poverty/world problems and all they seem to be doing is cultivating their new PR image whether we're interested or not. I dont have a problem with either of them, and under that they're a young ambitious couple trying to network into millionaire circles etc but it's all a bit too try hard please like me I've done nothing wrong I've been a victim all my life.

As I said, CRY ME A RIVER guys

Roussette · 27/02/2021 12:10

JingsMahBucket
Yes, indeed, I'd heard of her but only in a very vague way. I will be taking more notice of her now, I loved how she addressed the sort of criticism we have sadly seen too much of on MN, and even on this thread with the bump cradling.
She holds his hand in a funny way. She touches his back. She smiles and grins too much, her clothes don't fit properly etc etc.

Comfortzone · 27/02/2021 12:10

*understand, not under that 🙄

GetOffYourHighHorse · 27/02/2021 12:11

'(I suggest you don't watch it if you don't want to hear MM robustly defended against pathetic criticism. Everyone else... ENJOY'

Yes her comments are interesting, markle is a feminist and does want to help others/be a saviour. The point is they are incredibly inconsistent with their behaviour. Don't unfairly scrutinise them, but they'll unfairly scrutinise others. Don't share private details about them, but they will share private details about others.

If 'love always wins' perhaps they could demonstrate this by having healthy relationships with both their families. If they only would lead by example they would be credible and popular.

It is their own sided sniping and frequent pity parties that makes them incredibly unpopular.

Comfortzone · 27/02/2021 12:15

I think the tactic with British tabloids is to something play their game - then they give
you more positive attention.

Bad example but think of Amanda Holden always grinning and posing for the press and having the banter with any camera present. So she gets positive PR for free from them.

I once read that William and Kate take a really relaxed friendly approach to any cameras present etc so this seems to work well for them they don't get half as much criticism as MHarry.

Apparently on a long flight, will and Kate chatted happily with airline staff on board and were really down to earth. Yes they could've been the opposite way but they chose not to be like this.

Maybe that's the PR approach that Megan Harry should have taken? Possibly a bit late now though

Runwithtorches · 27/02/2021 12:20

The word "could" generally indicates possibility not certainty.

As they say, nothing in life is certain. However if you’re secretly hoping they’ll land on their financial uppers, you’ll probably be mistaken.

I'm not secretly hoping anything TheKeatingFive. I actually can't quite make my mind up what I think about it all. I am sympathetic with them wanting to leave the RF. Not so sure about the way they are doing it that's all.

I was actually thinking 10 or 20 years ahead and wondering aloud if people will still be interested in them then, and therefore whether they will still be able to make money or not.

What's wrong with that? Why do you feel it necessary to constantly contradict posts that don't accord with your own? Is no one allowed to express an opinion that is different to yours?

UsedUpUsername · 27/02/2021 12:34

UsedUpUsername they DO NOT live in L.A.! They live in Santa Barbara! That’s 2 hours or more away in average Cali traffic. They don’t even live in Long Beach

Ask anyone in the US where HM live, they’ll tell you LA. I don’t know why you are being so weird about this. I guess maybe if you’re from LA, you get weird about who’s from which part. But to the rest of us, you’re from LA. I don’t care about the technicalities

TheKeatingFive · 27/02/2021 12:37

I was actually thinking 10 or 20 years ahead and wondering aloud if people will still be interested in them then, and therefore whether they will still be able to make money or not.

I just don’t get this position at all. Lots of people make plenty of money without being well known. And it’s easier for those already rich.

And I also don’t really understand why people would be so invested in their ability to make money in 20 years. Do you speculate about that a lot with other people in the public eye?

ElspethFlashman · 27/02/2021 12:38

I don't know why they're so wierd about it either.

It's still a celebrity enclave. I'm old enough to remember the days when Brad 'n Jen lived in Santa Barbara - they were just as hounded as if they lived on Hollywood Boulevard.

SuperSimple · 27/02/2021 12:39

Haven't RTFT but have voted YANBU. I don't really have much of an interest in the RF, but take my mum for example...she was so excited when Harry married Meghan and was harping on about how gorgeous their baby was going to be etc etc.

She now says she can't stand either of them and thinks they're total hypocrites.

I think a hell of a lot of the UK feel this way.

UsedUpUsername · 27/02/2021 12:41
@JingsMahBucket that’s twice the distance between Manchester and Liverpool. Imagine trying to tell a Mancunian they lived in Liverpool or vice versa 😆
Great Britain is tiny, despite the name. Maybe things are a little different on a giant land mass?

There you go again TheKeatingFive.

It's a bit strange the way you feel compelled to rebut virtually everything I post on this thread. Aren't we all allowed different opinions?

TheKeatingFive · 27/02/2021 12:49

Of course. You’re allowed to state your opinion. I’m allowed to disagree with it. That’s how forums work. 🤷‍♀️

Runwithtorches · 27/02/2021 12:52

Oh, thank you for your permission Hmm

Roussette · 27/02/2021 12:58

I'm really not sure anyone can say that a hell of a lot of the UK think they are total hypocrites.
DM and Sun readers definitely because they have been fed a neverending diet of nasty articles about them.
But my adult DCs and their friends (so this is the late 20s/early 30s generation) cannot understand why they are criticised so much and have nothing againt them whatsoever. They and their friends are a mixture of indifference to liking them. They certainly do not think they are total hypocrites. Not from what they've said to me anyway.

the80sweregreat · 27/02/2021 13:01

My son (23) didn't even realize that they were now living abroad or already had a child. He barely knows who the Royals are as he has no interest in them whatsoever.
