Yes the guy lost his mother in a tragic way at a young age. (So have many) Yes he was forced out into the public eye in the middle of grief (which was horrific at the time and worse on reflection) BUT he is now an adult man with a family and access to life of extreme privilege yet he cannot seem to realise that him publically complaining about his lot in life and telling the rest of us how to behave is distasteful. Also, the petulant way he seems to communicate with the media is just undelining his immaturity and lack of awareness. By which I mean, the potshots in statements and rapping with James Corden and his pathetic man of the people schtick. If you want to be Hazzer give up your title and STFU!

For a start the bump touching article was kate touching the side of her bump as she walked in one occasion compared to cradling the bump in about 10 different photos / events in Megan's photos. It was weird how she kept doing it. I have had two babies and I never stood like that holding my bump.

Could you link me to the relevant legislation or guidance which outlines the frequency and angles at which pregnant women are allowed to touch their bumps? I haven't found any and I'm sure many even women, indeed even on Mumsnet, may have fallen foul of the rules.

VladmirsPoutine · 26/02/2021 17:12

And what, precisely is wrong or, to use your word 'weird' about touching one's bump?

In the UK - we are mainly used to seeing images/news & stories about the suffering and plight of Black people globally and nationally. So when a Black woman (ostensibly; though she's mixed) comes along and usurps that narrative as Meghan did it doesn't really fit the 'narrative'. Black joy is in itself an act of resistance. That's why you have people saying things like they don't know what it is about Meghan but they just don't like her. Also Black people are expected to be 'grateful' to this country and Meghan just isn't. That's why you even on this thread have someone complaining that Meghan was touching her bump too much or indeed that Meghan seems up herself. It's interesting to observe, if not entirely disheartening.

Roussette · 26/02/2021 17:13

I'm cringeworthy too then. I cradled my bump. You'd hate me.

Bizarre on a forum for Mums, a woman gets ridiculed or worse, for cradling her bump.

Ironic isn't it

Stoppissingonmyheather · 26/02/2021 17:14

Oh sod off Piers get over it

justab0utsurviving · 26/02/2021 17:19

Did someone really just infer that she was odd for cradling her bump as if it were about to fall off because of her skin colour?

Constant cradling with both hands as if it is about to fall off is a bit odd and when you are stood with some one doing it all
You are going to look at is the bump so when you are on a stage in a black ball gown doing the overt cradling, the only think people are looking at is tbe bump.

And rightly or wrongly , that sort of behaviour conjures up images of someone high maintenance who is hard work.

phoenixrosehere · 26/02/2021 17:21

*I find it bizarre that you can't tell how much you're being played. You've no idea how often each woman touched their bump, all you can know is that the press brought Meghan touching hers to your attention time and time again. For some reason.

And what, precisely is wrong or, to use your word 'weird' about touching one's bump?*

I found the avocado one a bit weird. Kate has an avocado and it’s cute, Meghan had one and she is fuelling drought and murder.

MuddleMoo · 26/02/2021 17:22
@Roussette a lot of those comparisons are a bit stupid and don't even make sense. For a start the bump touching article was kate touching the side of her bump as she walked in one occasion compared to cradling the bump in about 10 different photos / events in Megan's photos. It was weird how she kept doing it. I have had two babies and I never stood like that holding my bump. Might have rested my hand on my bump watching TV but that's probably about it. Don't think I have saw anyone else doing it either.

And the rest of theee 'headlines' are just a bit stupid. They aren't racist , they aren't viscous they are just bad journalism.
Nothing wrong with holding your baby bump. It wasn't weird. You are mean

You are aware that there are probably loads of pics of Catherine touching her bump, they probably have just been disregarded instead of collated into an article designed to push a certain narrative?

Now this is getting ridiculous. 'That sort of behaviour' meaning a pregnant woman cradling her bump?
Seriously??!

Is this an etiquette thing that I don't now about?
Or is it criticism for criticism's sake?

Actually, I know the answer

slashlover · 26/02/2021 17:26

What about the one where Catherine having certain flowers in her bouquet is lovely but Meghan having the same flowers means she is trying to murder Charlotte?

bakereld · 26/02/2021 17:28

Honestly, I get him and Megan were treated badly by the press but I wish he'd STFU. No one gives a flying shit.

Wish he'd go live in peace and quiet, but he cant stay away from the press despite hating them apparently.

phoenixrosehere · 26/02/2021 17:30

I forgot about that one. That now reminds me of when Meghan put candles in the church and it was seemingly rude yet Kate had done the exact same thing and it wasn’t a problem.

Meghan guest-editing Vogue, lots of criticism yet Kate featured on the front page of Vogue, not an issue.

I’ve watched it, enjoyed it, and thought he came across well.

Same flowers. Radically different slant of article. Wonder why 🤔

@PrelovedWithValue

I don't like Donald Trump, the Tory government, certain rules and laws. Can I not comment about them? Do I have to ignore it?

There is a massive difference between paying attention to and commenting on politics, which on some level directly affects you, and paying attention to and commenting on the lives of two individuals, neither of whom are likely to impact your life on any level unless you choose it.

I'll reduce it down, I don't like ,say for example, Tom Cruise, does this means I can't on his films, his views of Scientology etc.

But they aren't just 2 individuals are they.
Harry is part of the royal family which is part of the institution of Britain, like the government. If he was Harry bloggs from down the road and said something, yes you could ignore it, but he's not is he, he's part of the royal family. And only pretends to be or not to be when he suits him. Hence going to America to use the royal title to make money, like Fergie. Which again she was villified and mocked for.

Would Meghan still be famous if she hadn't married Harry, she wasn't the star of suits, the other actor aren't top billing actors.

PicsInRed · 26/02/2021 17:40
@Roussette she can do whatever she likes but it is just a bit cringeworthy and makes her look a bit OTT and a bit "look at me, I am pregnant' yeah we can see that , we don't need a giant ducking sign
What's so offensive, so distasteful, about this particular woman's pregnancy?

Something you can't quite put your finger on?

I wasn't. I was quoting your message. Surely you can work that out seeing as I was backing up what you had said.
ImAncient · 26/02/2021 17:49

I’ve not read the entire thread so apologies if this already been said.

I find it sad for him & his family that this is how he feels. I hope he & Meghan find happiness at some point.

But I don’t think today was appropriate as the Queen was trying to deliver an important message on vaccines & I feel this has overshadowed that somewhat. But that’s my opinion & not meant as a criticism of him saying what he has. Just to the timing.

Shehasadiamondinthesky · 26/02/2021 17:51

I found the whole James Cordon thing utterly cringe worthy and not something to expect from the royal family even if they leave it.

ImAncient · 26/02/2021 17:52

I forgot to add @TheKeatingFive I love your user name - & I cried buckets when it ended.

rawalpindithelabrador · 26/02/2021 17:52

Keep watching so he can continue to line his pockets bleating to the press about the professional victim he is. Hmm

Look at me, having a huge cream tea driving past tent cities and homeless people, I'm so hard done by, back I go to my 16-bathroom mansion, you people need to care about the environment more, we are all drops of rain falling to the Earth!

Give me a break!

PatchworkElmer · 26/02/2021 17:53

It’s a completely natural and normal thing to touch your bump! I just found it was where my hands automatically rested towards the end. And I’d imagine that it’s a bit of a protective impulse- pregnant women must feel very vulnerable in the public eye like that. I can’t believe that touching a bump is being criticised on sodding Mumsnet 😂😂
