Question for couples. Double or King size?

I moved in with my partner 6 months ago and everything is great except he has a double bed and I'm a restless sleeper and he gives off a ton of heat.
I've said we should get a king size as that's what most people have.
He seems to think it's not the bed and that I'm the one with a problem and that most people have double beds and get on alright with them.
I'd have a super king if it was me but the room wouldn't take it.
So AIBU for not wanting to spend every night squashed up in a double bed?
If you're a couple what do you have?

Super king here. Go as big as your room will allow!

Hoppinggreen · 24/02/2021 21:39

Super king

Chanjer · 24/02/2021 21:41

We've got a super king size but we're both tiny and both sleep on the same side

crazybunchofdolls · 24/02/2021 21:43

Super king is the only way for a successful relationship

Super king is the only way for a successful relationship
I disagree.

@Expectingsomethingwonderful

Superking (singles zipped together).
For many years I naiively thought a double room in a hotel referred to a king size bed as in every single hotel we stayed in that was the case. King size beds were standard.

Then we stayed in a "double room" in an independent hotel in York, and it was an actual double bed. It was awful, we didn't get a good night's sleep at all. We have a king size at home and have done ever since we moved into together aged 24 (this was over 20 years ago)
The bath towels were like hand towels too. In fact it was the single most disappointing hotel room experience we've had - it was supposed to be a nice coupley weekend. Everything about it felt penny-pinching. Grin Should have stayed at the travelodge.

sorry don' t know how I quoted you, Expecting. I didn't mean to!

pointythings · 24/02/2021 21:55

My late husband and I had a king, a double was hopeless. These days I have a double - just for me.

BotanyBetty · 24/02/2021 21:56

I used to work for a back specialist who said you should get the biggest bed you can afford.

I'm tall and I don't sleep well in anything smaller than a kingsize (unless I'm in it by myself).

Megan2018 · 24/02/2021 21:57

We have 2 Superking beds in separate rooms. It’s lovely!
We couldn’t cope in a double, we have shared a King occasionally but we prefer to sleep apart. DH’s feet hang off a Double and he’s not a small man and we have very different sleeping habits.

AnotherCovidQuestion · 24/02/2021 21:58

The bigger the better.

This is the only time that size matters in the bedroom!

Nanalisa60 · 24/02/2021 21:59

King bed , only because I can’t fit in a superking, but still have superking size quilt on the king which is very cosy

joystir59 · 24/02/2021 21:59

King-size definitely. Double beds just aren't big enough for couple comfort. I've got a super king but see your room wont accommodate one so king size is your answer.

AnotherCovidQuestion · 24/02/2021 21:59

Oh, and, memory foam mattress stops the rolling towards each other! 😅

Hotcuppatea · 24/02/2021 22:00

Super king here. There's no way we could sleep in a double together. I need my space.

Graffitiqueen · 24/02/2021 22:05

A double is way too small. King as a minimum.

carnations23 · 24/02/2021 22:05

King,

and it's room enough for us just now even with a large maternity pillow.

SarahLox77 · 24/02/2021 22:08

Double here. If the room was bigger i would definitely think about getting a king bed, but we don't have that option.

Serena1977 · 24/02/2021 22:12

Super king with separate duvets too!

WhereYouLeftIt · 24/02/2021 22:13

"I'm a restless sleeper and he gives off a ton of heat."

"He seems to think it's not the bed and that I'm the one with a problem and that most people have double beds and get on alright with them."

Well, it's not just the bed that's the problem, but it is the easiest part of the problem to deal with.

You can't stop being a restless sleeper.
He can't stop being a radiator.
You can change the bed to provide more space between you to accommodate the unchangeable elements of the problem.

He's saying it's not the bed and strictly speaking it isn't - when he's the only one in it. So the choice is - change the bad size, or the number of people sleeping in it.

DrMadelineMaxwell · 24/02/2021 22:15

Bouble. We can fit a king size in for the width of it, but they are 2m long rather than 1.9 and there's a fireplace and hearth at the bottom of the bed, so a longer bed would be awkward as it would limit space to walk across the bottom of the bed. Sadly. I'd love a king size.

funnylittlefloozie · 24/02/2021 22:16

I shared a double with my exH. He was 6'2 and well over 23 stone. I'm not exactly tiny either....God knows how we both managed it. ExH was weirdly adamant that a king-size wouldn't fit in our bedroom. As soon as he left, I bought a king size just for me. Now DP and I share it quite happily (and while he's not a small man, he's nowhere near as big as exH).

starsinthegutter · 24/02/2021 22:16

Superking!

JackieWeaverHandforthCouncil · 24/02/2021 22:20

Superking!

Wherearemymarbles · 24/02/2021 22:26

Ours is 5ft 6, which is big enough, 6ft would be a little better but ours fits the room

Its purgatory to sleep in a 4ft 6 bed
