Question for couples. Double or King size?

I moved in with my partner 6 months ago and everything is great except he has a double bed and I'm a restless sleeper and he gives off a ton of heat.
I've said we should get a king size as that's what most people have.
He seems to think it's not the bed and that I'm the one with a problem and that most people have double beds and get on alright with them.
I'd have a super king if it was me but the room wouldn't take it.
So AIBU for not wanting to spend every night squashed up in a double bed?
If you're a couple what do you have?

Get a dual-tog duvet, as well as a king-size bed. DH feels the cold, I'm usually too warm, so we got a dual tog duvet from John Lewis. Game changer! We don't row about the heating now, because we're both as warm as we like.

King size. At a minimum. When it is time to replace our mattress, we will be buying a super king. I’ve also considered getting two singles next to each other to reduce the shockwaves from either of us rolling over. Ok, maybe not shockwaves but I hate being able to feel him rolling over as it disturbs my sleep.

Recently went on holiday and had a choice of a double bed or bunk beds. We chose the bunk beds although, to be fair, DH wanted the double because he likes to sleep next to me. But actually wanted to get some sleep so I won that argument and we slept in the bunks.

@3rdNamechange
"A double each."

Now you're sucking diesel.
You lucky thing.

WildWaterSwimmer · 24/02/2021 20:59

Super King. I'd never downsize.

birdglasspen · 24/02/2021 21:03

Super king, did away with an en suite to make sure we could have one! Couldn't sleep in a Double with him, would put up with a Kingsize for a holiday. Quite often go and sleep on mattress in kids room, hate being disturbed in sleep and he goes up later than me and gets up early for work! If there was space I'd have my own room! It's not just you!

Whybot · 24/02/2021 21:04

King size or bigger , and the duvet to be the next size up cos my partner hogs it

HurricaneBitch · 24/02/2021 21:05

Double. Dh is 6'2" and slim, I'm 5'7" and a size 18, we're perfectly happy, not cramped and never touch through the night. We got a new bed last year and we briefly discussed a king size but decided against it.

Peakedin1997 · 24/02/2021 21:07

King. If you are planning on having children then get a super king.

WhiskeyTangoFoxtrot1 · 24/02/2021 21:07

Me and DH are tiny and have a King. It doesn't feel big enough sometimes, if we were to get another bed and sheets etc were no expense, I think next time we will measure for a super king, it would fit, it's just whether it would look right.

I'm 5ft and he's not much taller, both slim, and couldn't be comfortable full time in a double.

A king size bed at the absolute minimum. I could never have a double bed for DH and I. We love our space in bed. We are both tall and he is slightly overweight so that might be a factor.

Whenever we go on holiday and have to share a double bed - I find it a nightmare as I loved to toss and turn before sleeping and read. I feel like I can’t do that without bothering him in a double bed! I can remember the once when we went to Dubai and the room had two double beds by accident and I was excited about about getting a proper sleep! Haha.

EachBleachBlairTrump · 24/02/2021 21:15

Superking, I'm 5'9 and DH is 6'4 there's no room for legs in a double. When we were decorating our room last year we slept in the first room for a few nights in a double, it was hellish I don't know how we used to do it before we lived together, we both had a double bed back then!

Workinghardeveryday · 24/02/2021 21:18

Omg. Our king is too small. Super king, queen, bigger!!! Don’t settle for double!!!! Seriously 🤣

AlwaysInMay · 24/02/2021 21:18

Superking (if there's space) and separate duvets. Makes for a better night's sleep if we have our own space and no fighting over the covers.

HariboBrenshnio · 24/02/2021 21:19

I have a super king. When he moved out, I kept it for myself Grin

Hairsonyourchest · 24/02/2021 21:20

Super king all the way!

SoundWithoutAName · 24/02/2021 21:20

Super king!

BritWifeinUSA · 24/02/2021 21:23

We have an American king size which is slightly larger than a UK super king, I believe. Could not have anything smaller than that. Although when we travel to Europe we make do with what’s available.

Ijustknowitstimetogo · 24/02/2021 21:24

Sorry to barge in on your couples thread. I’m single and have a king bed. Only ever had king. I like to spread out.

TwoZeroTwoZero · 24/02/2021 21:31

We have a bog standard double but when it eventually gives up the ghost I'd love a king sized or bigger. I remember one hotel we stayed in years ago that had a massive bed: I could roll 5x from one side to the other and it was amazing!

Bumblebee1980a · 24/02/2021 21:32

Superking.

Wouldn't have anything smaller.

swaziscot · 24/02/2021 21:36

We have a king.
Double would be too squashed for most people

Usagi12 · 24/02/2021 21:38

We're the same, superking us definitely the way to go if you still want to like each other in 6 months.

TillyTopper · 24/02/2021 21:38

Superking size all the way.

foodiefil · 24/02/2021 21:38

@lazylinguist

I'm 50, been married for nearly 20 years and have never had a bed bigger than a double. Never felt the need tbh - there's enough room!
Are you teeny tiny?
