Question for couples. Double or King size?

I moved in with my partner 6 months ago and everything is great except he has a double bed and I'm a restless sleeper and he gives off a ton of heat.
I've said we should get a king size as that's what most people have.
He seems to think it's not the bed and that I'm the one with a problem and that most people have double beds and get on alright with them.
I'd have a super king if it was me but the room wouldn't take it.
So AIBU for not wanting to spend every night squashed up in a double bed?
If you're a couple what do you have?

We have a double and I WISH we had a king. We've definitely got enough space for it, too 😩

BraveheartBella · 24/02/2021 20:38

We have a king but we could accommodate a super king, might have to look in to this!

No way would we cope with a double! DH is 6’5 and heavy with it! I feel like the duckling next to the hippo as it is! Grin

King

FernieB · 24/02/2021 20:40

King definitely and also separate duvets.

Ragwort · 24/02/2021 20:42

Separate bedrooms - I have a super king & DH has a king size bed - hate going on holiday and having to share a room - would always request twin beds if we have to share.

multivac · 24/02/2021 20:42

Super king - or just two singles pushed together. Doubles are insanely small for a couple 😁

multivac · 24/02/2021 20:43

(our bedroom is essentially ALL bed. It's brilliant.)

Chocs44 · 24/02/2021 20:43

We had a double for years and recently we'd been sleeping so badly and disturbing each other. We've just got a super king and it's made such a difference wish we'd got one years ago! I'd go for the largest bed that you can fit in the room!!

Planty13 · 24/02/2021 20:44

I’d always recommend getting the biggest bed you can comfortably fit in a room

nonevernotever · 24/02/2021 20:46

We have a double and love it. Bigger beds just feel too cold and distanced. Dh is six foot and slim but I'm really fat and we both sleep well.

MRex · 24/02/2021 20:47

The layout of our bedroom has the bed between two bits of wall and would only fit a superking with side tables shunted forward into the room beyond the pillows. Regardless we've discussed a few times if we made a mistake and could have got a superking. Particularly with toddler DS climbing in, everyone's so hot!

phoenixrosehere · 24/02/2021 20:47

We slept comfortably in a double but we are both slender and edge sleepers so it worked.

However, once we had kids, we went to a super king. It’s great for when we get invaded, the oldest likes to sleep at the door while the youngest likes to sleep right in between us but is a wild sleeper (I’ve woken up to little toes and feet in my hair) so having space where everyone is comfortable is great.

SunshineThelma · 24/02/2021 20:48

Double here. It's never occurred to me to get anything massive as I've always lived in fairly small houses with narrow stairs (how do you get the mattress in?) We've never had a problem with the size, but are another couple who spent uni years sharing singles, so anything bigger already feels like luxury!

BreastedBoobilyToTheStairs · 24/02/2021 20:48

Super king. We can make do in a double in a pinch but not long term. That said, DP is 6ft6 so sleeps diagonally whatever bed we're in...

nonevernotever · 24/02/2021 20:51

Oh and if we're staying somewhere where there is a bigger bed we still seem to end up using only the first four foot six of it.

lurch3r · 24/02/2021 20:52

We have a king and always have BUT we rented a holiday cottage with 2 doubles bolted together (is that a super king?) and it was amazing. Loads of lovely space.

DobbyTheHouseElk · 24/02/2021 20:52

@Kottbullar

DH and I slept in a single for years, even through a pregnancy! Now we can afford more luxuries have a super king at DH's request he's tall so finds it preferable, however he doesn't sleep here for the vast majority of the year and it's far too big for little old me.
A single??? How is that possible?
Audreyhelp · 24/02/2021 20:52

I went from a king size to a double much prefer a double find it plenty of space . We had a massive bed on holiday hated it .

3rdNamechange · 24/02/2021 20:53

A double each.

GreenLilliesAndViolets · 24/02/2021 20:53

We have a double, it’s hell. Should have got rid of it years ago

VeryQuaintIrene · 24/02/2021 20:54

Personally, I hate king-sized beds because I like to sleep on the edge of the bed, as does my partner, so there's a vast empty gap between us and a complete waste of bed, unless we let the cats in.

PumpkinPie2016 · 24/02/2021 20:55

We have a king. DH is 6ft 2 so a double doesn't work length wise - his feet stick out of the bottom Grin

Only things is, if he is ever away, I find it cold to sleep in on my own.

Volcanoexplorer · 24/02/2021 20:55

We have a king and really I’d like to upgrade to a super king. I like space.

scoutingfornarwhals · 24/02/2021 20:56

Super king - one each in separate rooms.

im5050 · 24/02/2021 20:57

We have a super king size bed it’s amazing
DH is 6ft 3 so we need the space
