Question for couples. Double or King size?

I moved in with my partner 6 months ago and everything is great except he has a double bed and I'm a restless sleeper and he gives off a ton of heat.
I've said we should get a king size as that's what most people have.
He seems to think it's not the bed and that I'm the one with a problem and that most people have double beds and get on alright with them.
I'd have a super king if it was me but the room wouldn't take it.
So AIBU for not wanting to spend every night squashed up in a double bed?
If you're a couple what do you have?

We have a really small double and have slept fine in it for years, it I have to admit I’ve loved it when we’ve been in hotels and a much bigger bed. When we finally finished renovating our house and move into our bigger bedroom we’ll get the biggest bed we can! We will probably still sleep snuggled up, but at least I can wiggle away when I get too hot (happens more and more now I’m hitting menopause!).

MarkRuffaloCrumble · 24/02/2021 20:09

I’m lucky to be able to squeeze two doubles into my room! It meant no bedside tables, but I charge phones on the floor and put drinks over on my drawers so don’t need a bedside table really! Certainly not as much as I need a decent nights sleep anyway.

If we go on holiday we always book twin rooms as I can’t bear sharing with him. He snores loudly and flip flops around like a landed salmon. If I absolutely HAD to share a bed, it would be as big as possible, with separate duvets.

We have a king, couldn't cope with a double.

Although both my siblings have doubles with their partners.

Each to their own I suppose.

Honeyroar · 24/02/2021 20:09

A quick question for those of you with huge beds - what size duvets do you have? We only have a double bed but use a king size duvet, and it only just feels big enough for a double bed!

CeeceeBloomingdale · 24/02/2021 20:10

A king which is the biggest the room will take. I love superkings on holiday. I can't stand anyone touching me or radiating heat on me when asleep.

VerbenaGirl · 24/02/2021 20:12

Can’t bear a double, but a king is fine. Would have liked a super king when the DC were small and appeared during the night, but bedroom wasn’t quite big enough.

Summerdayshaze · 24/02/2021 20:12

Get he biggest bed you can afford and fit in your house.

I have a king size just for myself!

DontFuckingCallMeCis · 24/02/2021 20:12

Super king & I kick him out to the spare room when he snores.

toconclude · 24/02/2021 20:13

Double. No room for anthing bigger plus it's an Edwardian heirloom! Single duvets should solve OP's problem. Separate heat pockets!

Dahlietta · 24/02/2021 20:13

We have a double and I like it. I don't like being in a bigger bed in a hotel - I feel a bit lost! I wouldn't mind a bigger duvet though...

Loftyswops988 · 24/02/2021 20:14

double - although we are both women and both quite slight so I suppose it doesn't feel too small!

ittakes2 · 24/02/2021 20:14

Super King
My 14 year old twins have their own double bed each. I can not imagine two adults comfortably sharing a double bed.

poppycat10 · 24/02/2021 20:15

Double bed with king size duvet.

If I had a bigger bedroom I'd have a bigger bed. Or two singles. Or even better a double to myself...

BeyondMyWits · 24/02/2021 20:20

We have a double with a double duvet, we have an ordinary little 2 up 2 down house and there is no room for anything bigger. But we are fine in it... I am a heavy sleeper anyhow

yearinyearout · 24/02/2021 20:22

No way would I want a double. I'd prefer a super king but we have a king at the moment. If ever we get a normal double on holiday it drives me mad.

afaloren · 24/02/2021 20:26

Superking here. If we have to sleep in a double at someone else’s house or on holiday it feels like a doll’s bed.

MustardMitt · 24/02/2021 20:28

King size for us. I’d love a super king but one would never fit in our house!

We’re both fat to be fair, slimmer folk would be ok.

Mmmmdanone · 24/02/2021 20:29

Got a king-size a few years ago and now there's no way I can sleep in a double. It's only a few inches bigger but what a difference 😉😂

foodiefil · 24/02/2021 20:30

Super king!

Going back to my parents and sleeping in the double is like sleeping in a matchbox. TOO SMALL.

Never a double for a couple.

VinylDetective · 24/02/2021 20:30

Ours is king size and you could easily get a third person between us, which is perfect. We’d have to communicate by text if we had a super king!

Callingallbutterflies · 24/02/2021 20:31

What a thread! DH travelled for many many years. Sharing a double after him being away for six weeks was hideous. Superking purchased in 2002. Squeezed it in to where ever we have lived. Comfortable sleep is a priority.

thelightishere · 24/02/2021 20:33

Super king!!! And we are only 5'5 and 5'10 slim people. It's brilliant - almost like sleeping alone Grin

diamondpony80 · 24/02/2021 20:35

Double is tiny! I have to sleep in a double with DH when I visit my parents and we always get a terrible sleep. Definitely a king.

bringonyourwreckingball · 24/02/2021 20:36

King but would love a super king. He snores and is too damn hot, plus the cats take up space too

SplendidSuns1000 · 24/02/2021 20:38

We have a super king now, but have always had a king. I had a double when living alone and we never slept at mine because of it.
