To think that vaccination cards are very unfair.

I can see why they are needed but I think it's very unfair how they are going to be used. I am 39 and have no health issues. I am not sure when I will get the vaccination as I ve read they haven't even decided groups beyond group 9. So, that means it could be ages before I get any normality back in my life like going to restaurants, pubs, concerts and holidays. I am unsure if I should book a holiday in August as I don't know if I will be vaccinated by then.

I am feel quite cross about this and my parents and friends parents (70+) are booking holidays and cruises etc and will get their lives back so much quicker than I will. Yet IMO my age group and below are the ones that have probably made the greatest sacrifices, juggling home schooling, work and studying, financial worries. Everyone I know in the 60+ category have spent their days gardening, knitting and being bored but with little stress and sacrifice, yet they will be the first to get their lives back.

Not only it is likely my age group and below will feel the lasting effects most from this and will likely pay the most for this with tax increases etc, we will be the last to get the benefits of coming out of lockdown. I don't think they should insist on vaccination cards until everyone is vaccinated.

@Tara336

I’m actually a bit embarrassed for you. You think only certain age groups have made sacrifices? Im in my 50s im chronically ill and have worked my backside off for the last year with my partner to keep our business going, so our employees have a job to come back too and we have succeeded! But because it’s “not fair” you want everyone else to sacrifice a well earned rest until you have the opportunity too book a holiday (which no one by the way is actually stopping you from doing).

Pathetic me me me attitude! J

Errr did you read my posts?

@studychick81

The younger generation have the least to fear from covid but on this proposal would be locked down the longest. That is a glaring unfairness. I’ve already said it might be unavoidable if it’s the way to get certain industries open ASAP, but I can totally see why OP would be pissed off.

Exactly my point, put much better than me. Thanks.

The thing about “locked down the longest” is it’s not true. For large parts of 2020, when you felt locked down, you were able to meet peo ple, sit outside pubs and cafes etc. Many of us were not, and now that we are free to “have fun”, are mostly excited about things like our first haircut in a year (when the hair salons are allowed to open). Many people, like me, already had restrictions on our lives before COVID. Yet we managed to contribute to society. The last yea r has taken even that. You have no idea what the last year has been like, lockdown for 12 months without respite. Now I’ve had my first vaccine, I get all giddy from the freedom to pop to the local co op and chat to the nice lady on the till. If vaccine proof is required to travel, that’s nothing new, many countries required it before COVID, and more will afterwards for very sensible reasons.
Vivi0 · 23/02/2021 22:56

@studychick81, I think your post is triggering a lot of people who have received the vaccine and booked a holiday, so they are responding to your perceived criticism of them and not what you have actually posted.

gigity · 23/02/2021 22:58

Yes & lots of how dare you be so entitled whilst simultaneously showing their entitlement. 🤔

EasterIssland · 23/02/2021 23:00

@Vivi0

I agree with you OP.

I have been “locked up” for almost 2 years (my son was born at the beginning of the first lockdown but I had been unable to leave my bed for the preceding 9 months due to debilitating HG).

I am still breastfeeding so don’t think I will be able to get the vaccine.

So where does that leave me? Locked up and ostracised from society indefinitely due to a virus that is statistically of no real threat to me?

@Vivi0 pfizer and aztraceneca are both approved for breastfeeding mums. I’m bf my nearly 3yo son and will def have any of those two or any thar becomes available for bf mums.
KarmaStar · 23/02/2021 23:01

Yabu and you know you are op!that's why voting wasn't enabled!😀

OhWhyNot · 23/02/2021 23:03

Why have you been locked up ? You can still go out with a baby

Livelovebehappy · 23/02/2021 23:03

If people don’t want the vaccine, then crack on. But the consequences of that is that you have to have to be restricted and not be allowed to travel outside the country. It’s BS to bleat about being discriminated against. Do your human rights trump the rights of millions of people in other countries who don’t want you potentially transporting the virus to them? People are so unbelievably self entitled.

Vivi0 · 23/02/2021 23:04

@EasterIssland

Thank you! You have no idea how happy this makes me!

Did you read the OP, she wants the vaccine!!!

EasterIssland · 23/02/2021 23:06

@Vivi0 from the gov website
“ There are no data on the safety of COVID-19 vaccines in breastfeeding or on the breastfed infant. Despite this, COVID-19 vaccines are not thought to be a risk to the breastfeeding infant, and the benefits of breast-feeding are well known. Because of this, the JCVI has recommended that the vaccine can be received whilst breastfeeding. This is in line with recommendations in the USA and from the World Health Organisation.”.

This fb also displays important info related with vaccines
www.facebook.com/TheBreastfeedingNetworkUK/

And you’re welcome. The day I heard I could have a vaccine I started crying in the middle of a bus

Vivi0 · 23/02/2021 23:07

@OhWhyNot

Go out where?

There is really only so much walking a person can do. Plus it’s February in Scotland, the weather isn’t pleasant and hasn’t been for a good few months.

So yes, I am “locked up”.

CatWithARabbit · 23/02/2021 23:09

Knitting and gardening? In my dream world ! Certainly not in reality sadly

OhWhyNot · 23/02/2021 23:10

That’s not locked up. There isn’t many places for people to go it’s miserable but most of us can still go out

Many have had to shield that’s being locked up some have hardly had an contact with another person must be absolutely miserable for them

gigity · 23/02/2021 23:14

Shielded people can go out

QueenPaw · 23/02/2021 23:16

@gigity for a walk. I haven't been able to go to a shop, pub, restaurant, see a friend, family, supermarket, chemist, work... my shielding was never paused
Bit limited on the walking due to a medical condition

Rupertbeartrousers · 23/02/2021 23:17

It’s a shame that discussions about how to use vaccines to achieve some sort of normality descends into competetive hard done by-ness, which seems to be a common theme on covid threads... whether it’s perceived unfairness in vaccine roll out or whether people get keyworker school places or not. I don’t think the OP helped herself with sweeping, inaccurate stereotypes.

I do agree with the OP to some extent though, my parents are comfortably retired and probably will be off to Benidorm once they’re vaccinated and the Spanish let them in... I might feel a tiny bit jealous but only in the same way as I can’t afford proper holidays like they can because they are too expensive in school holidays.

If other countries want proof of vaccination, there isn’t much we can do about that. If domestically vaccination starts to be phased in instead of testing, then at least there are fewer plastic swabs and test tubes being incinerated. I think we have to view vaccination as a way that will get community transmission down for the good of the whole community, but maybe look at lateral flow testing as an alternative for things like gigs and sports. Particularly as no kids/teens are likely to be vaccinated by summer but are the main customer in some industries.

Whatafustercluck · 23/02/2021 23:17

I don't think this is even going to be a thing op. I understood that vaccination passports might be considered for international travel, but nothing else. Sure, it would be nice to go to France this year if we can, but I'd just settle for a few barbecues with my family. And I don't think that's off the cards.

GreenSlide · 23/02/2021 23:17

I do understand where you're coming from, but it is what it is. It takes time to vaccinate everyone, it's irksome being at the back of the queue but I do find all the complaining and attempts at queue jumping a bit pathetic. It's always about holidays too. It's not a given that any holidays booked will go ahead, booking holidays is very optimistic to the point of foolhardiness.

@Livelovebehappy what about the people who can't have it, should they be restricted too?

Well that is something for you to look forward to then Hmm

gigity · 23/02/2021 23:26

@QueenPaw shielding people aren't barred from shops though just told to minimise contact.

I haven't been able to go to a shop, pub, restaurant, see a friend, family, supermarket, chemist, work... my shielding was never paused

I've been to a supermarket, don't tend to hang out in chemists but I've not been to to a pub or restaurant or seen close friends either. I've also been wfh.

My mum is shielding but decided to take a foreign holiday all Summer as she was bored. Shielding or non shielding groups are not homogenous.

truetuesdays · 23/02/2021 23:27

@coulditbeanymorerubbish I agree 100%

Meanwhile they were the ones screaming at staff in the supermarkets last year. The entitlement is real and you can see it on this thread

I think this thread has touched a few nerves of those who have already booked their SAGA cruise

Vivi0 · 23/02/2021 23:27

You can continue to tell me that only being permitted to go for a walk in the cold and rain isn’t being locked up as much as you like, doesn’t change the fact that, for me, I am absolutely locked up. I feel trapped. Caged.

My mum has had to shield. She can still go out for a walk, the same as I can.

Just because some people have it worse than I do, doesn’t make my situation any easier for me though. I am struggling and my feelings are valid.
