@LudoTrouble

Love coriander, parsley, dill, basil, rosemary, tarragon, all the herbs!!

I'd love to have a green enough thumb to have a huge herb garden so I could have handfuls of fresh green herbs in every meal.

Coriander is perfect in Thai and Vietnamese food. In a lot of the restaurants I visited in Vietnam they served a plate piled with fresh Asian basil, mint and coriander to go with whatever you're eating.

Have a look at square foot gardening a million guides/videos and a book out there

A small herbgarden/window box can be superproductive

If you search for subordinated planters too you will only have to top up the reservoir at the bottom once a week or so

LudoTrouble · 24/02/2021 03:31

Thanks @Sapho47 I will look it up.

Sapho47 · 24/02/2021 03:32

@LudoTrouble sorry typo subirrigated planters

SnowyPetals · 24/02/2021 03:46

You know when a recipe says "scatter over some coriander"? Might as well say "grate over a fresh bar of soap"!

Insert1x20p · 24/02/2021 03:50

Isn’t coriander one of those genetic things like sprouts where they taste totally different to different people? I LOVE it- when I go in the market and smell it I literally want to roll in it ( imagine this is how cats feel about catnip). My dad and sister cannot stand it- the smell/ taste/ anything about it.

Yes basil can be too iirc some people say soapy

Does the milkman like coriander? Grin
SakuraEdenSwan1 · 24/02/2021 04:45

I love Coriander and I do put it in salad and even use it in mash potato!

Chicchicchicchiclana · 24/02/2021 04:46

Another coriander lover here. I have if on anything spicy or Mexican. You can make it into a beautiful pesto.

I detest cucumber also - to me it tastes of decay. I used to give it to the children but had to use a separate chopping board and wash the knife if I was going to then cut up something for me.

Both my kids loathe coriander.

SakuraEdenSwan1 · 24/02/2021 04:46

@muddyboots

Agree. It's worst crime is hiding in plain sight in salads pretending to be flat leaf parsley. Disgusting herby bastard!!
😂😂😂😂
Sceptre86 · 24/02/2021 04:48

@Cadent I agree.

Alondra · 24/02/2021 05:18

One of my favourite salads is Vietnamese Chicken Salad (with or without the chicken). Lots and lots of fresh coriander.

Healthy, fresh and delicious in summer.

sbhydrogen · 24/02/2021 05:30

I am glad to see that YABU is winning.

Whoopsmahoot · 24/02/2021 05:34

🤮

Glittertwins · 24/02/2021 06:20

Love fresh coriander on salads or on spicy foods. All four of us like it too, no soap here

Tinkerbell456 · 24/02/2021 06:33

Weird-tastes like soap to me too. I read once that there is a gene that does make it taste like that to some people👩🏽‍⚕️

miafeta · 24/02/2021 07:58

I hate coriander

Lunariagal · 24/02/2021 09:55

Love coriander.

Hate flat leaf parsley - tastes of rubber. Anyone else the same??

CreamFirstThenJamOnTop · 24/02/2021 19:09

I can’t bear it, terrible stuff. Ruins so many meals out for me.

hoxtonbabe · 24/02/2021 19:27

My family and I hate the stuff. Even worse when you bite into something delicious on the first bite and then the second bite you get a mouthful of the shite not realising it was an ingredient in said dish.

Celery is another one that has no business being in this world. A salad with coriander and celery would be my idea of absolute hell, just thinking about it is making me queasy

THIS!!!!! I forgot about the bastard celery!!! 🤮🤮🤮
Mypathtriedtokillme · 26/02/2021 09:13

I was once served Celery soup at someone’s house as a child.
My sisters still 30 years later use it is a bar as how horrible a meal could be.
“Was it just a bit meh or full on celery soup disgusting?”

Notjustanymum · 26/02/2021 09:25

You genuinely either love it or hate it, but that’s actually down to genetics: from Brittanica.com “for those cilantro-haters for whom the plant tastes like soap, the issue is genetic. These people have a variation in a group of olfactory-receptor genes that allows them to strongly perceive the soapy-flavored aldehydes in cilantro leaves.”
I love coriander, but my DH and DC all have a very strong aversion to it, so I don’t use it for them, as they aren’t just being fussy!

Cooroo · 26/02/2021 09:59

Not voting - I love it, my daughter says it tastes like soap, so we'd cancel each other out! She also can't stand peppers - do the 2 aversions go together?

StepAwayFromTheEcclesCakes · 26/02/2021 10:50

Fresh is vile, strangely though i quite like powdered in a curry.
