Coriander is THE best, I put the chopped stalks in curries and chillis and then add the leaves right at the end Wink

Celery, on the other hand 🤮🤮🤮🤮

FreedomAnniversary · 23/02/2021 18:53

@DamsonDress

I honestly think I would feel more convivial if you put shit in my salad rather than coriander.

Although I'd hope it's not an either or situation.

Coriander is the worst.

Perfectly said 👌
PersimmonTree · 23/02/2021 18:56

Coriander not good when chopped too large in carrot soup. All other times it's awesome. Yabu. It's also anti jnflammatory.

Yebanksandbraes · 23/02/2021 18:57

@Purrswhileheeats I agree, celery is awful! Such a strong and disgusting flavour.

countrygirl99 · 23/02/2021 18:58

I love coriander. But basil 🤮 and people always use it by the handful

Chloemol · 23/02/2021 18:58

You are so right. It’s vile

Aurea · 23/02/2021 19:02

Mmmm....my fave ❤️

UnaOfStormhold · 23/02/2021 19:03

I'm curious, do coriander seeds taste soapy for those who find the leaves soapy? My personal loathing is dill which also seems to turn up all over the place.

DragonPoop · 23/02/2021 19:07

I hate coriander in almost everything but bizarrely the only time I’ve had it and liked it was in a chicken fajita type wrap from Pret A Manger. I also hate the taste of lemon grass but love lemons...

purrswhileheeats · 23/02/2021 19:07

@Yebanksandbraes, I retch thinking about it... and the smell and texture Envy

CarnationCat · 23/02/2021 19:13

One of the very very few foods that I will not eat.

Completely disgusting and ruins a dish. My worst nightmare is ordering at an Indian restaurant and the food coming out with it scattered all over. Repulsive.

Not to me, coriander seeds tastes like lemon, really fresh and lovely. The fresh green leaves are disgustingly vile and soapy. I must have the gene.
bluebellforest · 23/02/2021 19:26

As many as one in five people say that coriander has a soapy taste. This is likely to be due to a super-sensitivity to chemicals called aldehydes, which are present in coriander and are also used to perfume soaps and detergents.

In 2012, researchers in California analysed the DNA of over 14,000 people, identifying two genetic variants associated with the soapy taste, the most common of which is a gene coding for an odour receptor tailored to sniff out aldehydes.

I can't taste the soap, I absolutely love the stuff, the smell the taste, everything, my friend on the other hand absolutely hates it and says it tastes soapy.

So we don't all perceive coriander in the same way!

Geordieoldgirl · 23/02/2021 19:48

The first few times I had it I thought it was the most disgusting and soapy tasting thing I'd ever eaten, so I do understand your revulsion. But somehow I came to absolutely love it! It is delicious in lots of things like curry, chilli and in salads, guacamole, salsa and salads and dressings etc. too. Give it another couple of tries and you may find yourself converted.

BendingSpoons · 23/02/2021 19:51

Coriander doesn't taste like soap to me but I still hate it!

berryhead2013 · 23/02/2021 19:57

I like that it tastes like germoline cream for cuts love it on a salad

TooYoungToNotice · 23/02/2021 19:58

You are quite correct and not at all unreasonable

Deux · 23/02/2021 20:01

Gosh I had no idea that it tastes soapy to so many people. Fascinating. I love it but I can’t bear the taste of brussel sprouts, it’s the only food I have an aversion to.

LaurieSchafferIsAllBitterNow · 23/02/2021 20:02

I get the soapy taste, but I do like it in a curry, but nothing else!

123HereComesTheSun · 23/02/2021 20:03

YANVVVVU! What is WRONG with you?!?!

Slippy78 · 23/02/2021 20:07

I love it but I can’t bear the taste of brussel sprouts, it’s the only food I have an aversion to.

When did you last try them? The varieties you get nowadays have almost no resemblance to the ones that were sold 10+ years ago.
I used to be a hater but I love them nowadays.

elp30 · 23/02/2021 20:08

Coriander/Cilantro is so awful!

I really hate it when it appears in dishes where it shouldn't be like salad. I don't mind it if it appears in a curry or tacos where it is a garnish and could take it off but noooo people put a fuckton on the plate and even chop that shit into little pieces so you can't escape the nastiness!

Imagine my absolute hell being cilantro-averse and my family is Mexican and they put that shit on every fucking food. There was a reason I was skinny when I lived at home! Yuck!

That herb is banned from my kitchen!

Littlepaws18 · 23/02/2021 20:08

Coriander and parsley work of the devil.

Wearethetwirl · 23/02/2021 20:17

I have never heard such blasphemy since a magazine declared Robbie Williams the greatest songwriter since Lennon.

Away with yous and your soap based defamation.

wewillmeetagain · 23/02/2021 20:29
