And has no place in a salad?

AIBU?

It's an evil little herb, that's for sure. I find it very offensive.

poundoflard · 23/02/2021 23:37

Pp who mentioned lemongrass: I too love lemons but lemongrass is just lemons drenched in perfume.
Like gin. Also vile and perfumey. And wrong.

Coriander seeds in curry are ok, but the hedge trimming little bits all over a curry are so wrong. I could weep when I see them.

Vivenne · 23/02/2021 23:45

I hate it too

bigpricklyfern · 23/02/2021 23:46

Definitely wouldn’t have it in salad, but I love dried coriander in curry. Bought myself a coriander plant as I loved it so much, but the fresh stuff is vile! I couldn’t put my finger on what the taste was, but yes, soap!!

Embroideredstars · 23/02/2021 23:48

Yabvvvvvu!

Pumpkinpied · 23/02/2021 23:51

So many beautiful dishes ruined by this menace. YANBU!

Dinkydody · 24/02/2021 00:14

It’s yum 😋 and makes great pesto 😃

TwoPupsAndaHamster · 24/02/2021 00:17

YANBU. Coriander has no place in a curry let alone a salad. Disgusting stuff 🤢

LemonSwan · 24/02/2021 00:20

Those of you who have soapy coriander - can you also smell cucumber from a range of 30m?

TisConfusion · 24/02/2021 00:22

I love coriander!

balkanscot · 24/02/2021 00:24

YANBU!!!!!

Fecking hate the stuff! But it seems to be in every Pret’s sandwich possible. Also, salads. Envy Envy Envy (NOT envy)

It tastes like rusty metal shavings. Envy (NOT envy)

Sparrowfeeder · 24/02/2021 00:24

It’s totally grim! Won’t touch it!

ToadsThePeanutButterSnob · 24/02/2021 00:30

Yabvu. Coriander is the food of the Gods.

Ohnomoreno · 24/02/2021 00:31

Interestingly I love coriander, but I did the genetic test, and apparently my genes don't!

scoutingfornarwhals · 24/02/2021 00:32

Yabu. It makes a Thai curry even nicer.

ktp100 · 24/02/2021 00:40

LOVE it!!

Glad nobody in our house has the weird soapy-taste gene as I use it a lot.

Trust me, if you don't have the gene, it's LUSH!

PolkadotZebras · 24/02/2021 00:43

@BestestBrownies

It’s genetic as to whether you like coriander/cilantro or get an overwhelming (and revolting), soapy/perfume taste from it.

I fall into the latter camp and HATE the vile stuff

Came here to say this. It's so interesting how so much of what people think they perceive directly (tastes, colour, smells etc) are actually "created" in their brains based on various biological factors, so we experience them very differently. There's no direct link to the world around us at all. It's actually mind blowing when you first understand that. As Wittgenstein wrote, in terms of communicating about it with others, "the limits of my language are the limits of my world".
PickAChew · 24/02/2021 00:46

Coriander in all its forms is bloody delicious.

MingeofDeath · 24/02/2021 00:47

If I was a spy, I'd spill all at the merest whiff of coriander. Evil stuff, tastes like disinfectant

Scarby9 · 24/02/2021 00:47

Masquerading as parsley garnish - begone!

Scarby9 · 24/02/2021 00:51

@LemonSwan
I have always also hated cucumber, and can taste on, for example, a tomato, if it has been cut with the same knife used to cut cucumber.

My mum, and many people since, have said 'but it doesn't taste of anything!' or 'it tastes of water!'

No, it doesn't.

LudoTrouble · 24/02/2021 00:56

Love coriander, parsley, dill, basil, rosemary, tarragon, all the herbs!!

I'd love to have a green enough thumb to have a huge herb garden so I could have handfuls of fresh green herbs in every meal.

Coriander is perfect in Thai and Vietnamese food. In a lot of the restaurants I visited in Vietnam they served a plate piled with fresh Asian basil, mint and coriander to go with whatever you're eating.

LemonSwan · 24/02/2021 02:36

@Scarby9

My partner is the same as you and I am the same as your mum! Its so bizarre, he always knows, I have no idea how he/you do it lol!

The only way I am allowed it in the house is if I place the cucumber in a soup of white wine vinegar then he cant smell it. I am glad we found a compromise as I do love it - so refreshing and watery.

Sapho47 · 24/02/2021 02:42

@bloodywhitecat

And has no place in a salad?

AIBU?

You're one of those weirdos who doesn't separate stem and leaves aren't you.
Mypathtriedtokillme · 24/02/2021 02:43

It’s genetic.
Some people it tastes like you’re licked perfume or were talking while walking though an over zealous department perfume section and others think it’s delicious.

Kinda like how some people can’t smell that weird filthy asparagus wee stench and other can.
