I take it you are not well travelled @FredSoftly?

Oh I am, I am.

Are you?

A lot of England has pretty boring landscape compared to Wales, Scotland and NI.

bloomingroses · 23/02/2021 17:56

Can’t we just accept the Ops post for what it is. No need to start thinking up lovelier places surely.

Frequentflier · 23/02/2021 17:57

This is such a harmless post. see no reason why OP should be called a Brexiteer and sneered at.

England may be the OP's happy place. Japan is mine.

Blimey some aggression on here

GETTINGLIKEMYMOTHER · 23/02/2021 18:07

It’s best in May, IMO, when all the leaves are out, all that fresh new green - the grass is brilliant green, and there’s lots of blossom.

borntobequiet · 23/02/2021 18:07

Hate when people call Ireland part of the British Isles. You can say well that's what they're called all you like but it's inaccurate and needs to be changed imo

Well, that’s the name of the group of islands that include Great Britain and Ireland so how can it be inaccurate? What a daft comment.

Biffbaff · 23/02/2021 18:09

Lovely as it is, I'd swap it for a Thai beach right now.

Respectmyauthoritah · 23/02/2021 18:14

You're wrong because you have Stockholm syndrome. If you've been held prisoner in drizzly, grey gloom for 9 months then the slightest hint of good weather makes you all giddy. Give me hot Mediterranean nights, moon risings over the sea, and fresh, flavourful fruits and vegetables ripened under a long summer sun. You can keep your daffs and "warm" spring breeze 😂

GETTINGLIKEMYMOTHER · 23/02/2021 18:15

That cherry blossom that bears no fruit is a travesty IMO.

We’ve got such a tree in the front garden - a big one now - planted by previous owners, and I wish we’d got rid of it years ago and planted a tree that produces flowers and fruit. Preferably an apple. To me there’s nothing prettier than apple blossom.

The blasted cherry is pretty (in an over-pink, Barbie-ish sort of way) for 10 days max, and then we have loads of pink snow to sweep up - and the tree is just boring for the rest of the year.

Thank you. I was a passionate Remainer but not the type that feels they need to denigrate their own country to prove their pro-EU credentials.

But cherry trees also look good in the autumn I think . They have lovely autumnal coloured leaves. It is really infuriating when the blossom comes after waiting all year for it, it rains and it’s gone!

I live in an area that's lovely for walks. Stoney beaches and the South downs. Shame that everywhere I go I see litter and dog shit and, worst of all, dog shit bags hanging from trees and bushes. I wonder if this is an issue in other places or just the English are dirty selfish buggers.

recluse · 23/02/2021 19:21

YABU - Spring is lovely everywhere - what is better about Spring here? Genuine question.

bloomingroses · 23/02/2021 19:57

For goodness sake, does the op really need to explain herself.

StoneofDestiny · 23/02/2021 19:59

Scotland is pretty gorgeous too 🏴󠁧󠁢󠁳󠁣󠁴󠁿

Ooopsijustsnarted · 23/02/2021 20:08

I give you the lake district. Todd Crag (above Ambleside) last spring.

Loveliest of trees, the cherry now Is hung with bloom along the bough, And stands about the woodland ride Wearing white for Eastertide.

Now, of my threescore years and ten,
Twenty will not come again,
And take from seventy springs a score,
It only leaves me fifty more.

And since to look at things in bloom
Fifty springs are little room,
About the woodlands I will go
To see the cherry hung with snow.

FloconDeNeige · 23/02/2021 21:22

There’s beautiful places everywhere. As an English woman I’d say it’s hard to beat here, Switzerland, in spring. I’m overlooking lake Geneva with the French & Swiss Alps behind. It’s one of the world’s greatest vistas!

shouldistop · 23/02/2021 21:24

Scotland is definitely the most beautiful, sorry op.

pictish · 23/02/2021 21:33

Scotland is lovelier...but you get a nod for the Lakes which are also stunning.
