East, west, home's best.

(Home being England. Obvs Grin )

Mykidshatepastabake · 23/02/2021 21:48

Ireland is nicer

littlepandawantstoplay · 23/02/2021 21:50

I agree with this despite coming from a beautiful country with clear blue sea, miles of Sandy beaches and beautiful mountains where you can ski. Also historically beautiful but I wouldn't change the world for a day in the UK during spring. I think spring is the best time for the UK.

NoIDontWatchLoveIsland · 23/02/2021 21:50

I bloody love living in the UK. I think every season here has beautiful days.

Cocopogo · 23/02/2021 21:50

No I think Scotland is nicer and Wales is lovely too

Mykidshatepastabake · 23/02/2021 21:50

@Mykidshatepastabake

Ireland is nicer
I am Irish ( and homesick ) so a bit bias
LadyMonicaBaddingham · 23/02/2021 21:57

Ooh, West Coast of Wales watching the dolphins, by the banks of Loch Lomond eating tablet, drinking Guinness in a pub in Belfast, eating a cream tea in Mevagissey, chowing down on pie, mash and liquor in the East End of London... 😂

TotorosFurryBehind · 24/02/2021 00:09

You clearly don't live in Plymouth. I would give anything to be in the Dordogne right now...

Respectmyauthoritah · 24/02/2021 07:01

@TotorosFurryBehind Amen sister. I'm sitting in bed listening to my neighbours bins fly up and down the street. The only thing stopping them disappearing forever is the muddy bog at the end of the street that was once a patch of grass.

LeonaV · 24/02/2021 09:51

Scotland is the most beautiful and romantic place for me. All those castles, lochs and mountains and the people are lovely. Ireland comes in a very close second, alongside pretty Wales.

Hahaaaaaa!

ThePlantsitter · 24/02/2021 10:53

@MarieVanGoethem

It’s as if Browning walks among us... Hmm

YABU not to acknowledge your view is entirely subjective OP.

That said, @ThePlantsitter is clearly all sorts of wrong about there being better places in the world than Lewisham: multiple-times winner of the Twitter World Cup of London Boroughs; where the sovereignty of the people is recognised even on the bins; & home to an enormous cat (that technically ought to be a cow, or possibly several cows). Wink

'where the sovereignty of the people is recognised even on the bins' Grin

When I lived in England I went from a shitty London suburb to an even grottier area in Manchester. I honestly though England was the ugliest country I'd ever seen. When I met my (English) DH and he used to go on and on about how beautiful the place was I'd politely nod but would be Confused on the inside.

Then he brought me to meet his parents and good lord it was like something from a fairytale. The prettiest village I'd ever seen in some of the most beautiful countryside I've ever seen. He redeemed England for me Grin.

Like England, Ireland, NZ, Scotland, Wales (I've been to all) are breathtakingly stunning in places but all have plenty of grotty areas. I think you can safely say that about most countries.

Frequentflier · 24/02/2021 11:17

@shetoshe I am a foreigner in London, and I think even the grottiest areas are near the most beautiful parks in the world. I almost had an out of body experience walking in Greenwich park yesterday. That's why I am on the OP's side; my country has no parks in big cities.

Shetoshe · 24/02/2021 11:23

Frequentflier I suppose it's all relative. I'm from an area oft cited as being of "outstanding natural beauty" so a London park just couldn't live up to that. Although many, many happy days were spent drinking wine in Hyde Park in the sunshine!

PolkadotsAndMoonbeams · 24/02/2021 11:28

For me, Scotland is more dramatic, and a bit bleaker. It feels grander, but not as friendly.

I'm another one who likes fluffy white lambs and daffodils! It's the blue skies I love, when it looks like it's been washed clean. And gorse, I love gorse.

HerringGull · 24/02/2021 11:32

I'm Scottish, and love where I'm from, but actually objectively I think Ireland is nicer, especially the south west coastal area. If I wasn't deeply attached to the place I grew up I'd move in a trice! But would never be happy living away from where I'm from, just because that's where I'm from :)
I guess it's all objective, and depends if you like dramatic/cute/green/stunning/wild/tame etc...

PolkadotsAndMoonbeams · 24/02/2021 11:34

I've only been to Wales in summer.

Actually, I went to Aberystwyth in November to visit a friend at university there. It tipped it down the entire time I was there, so I don't think I actually saw any scenery!

Dalamalama · 27/02/2021 20:07

I'm in God's own country Yorkshire and yes I completely agree. Seeing the daffodils starting to bloom, going to work when it's light and coming home and its still light.

I'm just waiting to see the first lambs jumping about.

I spent 5 months in NZ years ago and it did nothing for me. Yes it is lovely but you can't beat Yorkshire.

kittycorner · 27/02/2021 20:18

There is something very special about it!

JaceLancs · 27/02/2021 20:20

Lovely to see the spring flowers

Yanbu OP, nothing like it, especially in Laurie Lee country. The meadows, the bluebells in April, the wild garlic, the rivers, and the pub gardens ....just bliss!

A lot of beauty competition going on in this thread! Smile
I agree UK looks stunning in the sunshine, lushly green, and spring flowers are gorgeous! I love the fields full of blue bells, the yellow rapeseed fields of gold, and the daffodills sprouting out around roads and fences.
The only places in UK that I have not yet seen (I am spanish), are NI and the Highlands. Looking forward to be able soon!

yetmorecrap · 27/02/2021 21:31

This really depends where you live— we recently move down to Denmark (copenhagen) but lived in Bath- on a nice spring day Bath was glorious but 18 miles down the road I can’t say the same about Swindon- the UK has some fabulous scenery but some real grotty drab areas too . Pretty nice on a sunny day here with lakes and fjords and beautiful harbour fronts, same goes for Sweden across the bridge- stunning!

TravelDreamLife · 27/02/2021 21:36

I don't know. But obviously you're never been to southern QLD in the autumn. Glorious. In fact, today is perfect.
