I think where is more beautiful is truly subjective, and everyone thinks certain areas are better than others.

All of this 'Oh the Lake District is not as nice as the Cairngorms and Fort William/Loch Ness,' and 'the Brecon Beacons in South Wales is better than the Peak District,' and 'Northern Ireland is nicer than the Peak District,' and 'New Zealand is better than Canada,' is just bullpoo really. It's a matter of opinion which is the nicest.

Anyone who thinks their favourite area is the best, and everyone else is 'wrong' is just a bit daft really.

There is no right or wrong here.

BidensWingWoman · 23/02/2021 14:57

I don't think you are unreasonable as long as you acknowledge that there are other places that are equally lovely.

MarshaBradyo · 23/02/2021 14:58

It is very pretty

MarieVanGoethem · 23/02/2021 15:17

It’s as if Browning walks among us... Hmm

YABU not to acknowledge your view is entirely subjective OP.

That said, @ThePlantsitter is clearly all sorts of wrong about there being better places in the world than Lewisham: multiple-times winner of the Twitter World Cup of London Boroughs; where the sovereignty of the people is recognised even on the bins; & home to an enormous cat (that technically ought to be a cow, or possibly several cows). Wink

unmarkedbythat · 23/02/2021 15:29

I like hot. Not 'if you leave the shade you will die' hot, but still, given the choice, I would be somewhere hotter than England on a clear spring day.

AryaStarkWolf · 23/02/2021 15:42

At last, someone who understands what the British Isles means!

It isn't lack of understanding but I'm sure you are well aware of that

Fifthtimelucky · 23/02/2021 15:45

Spring is my favourite time of year and as the skies were blue, the bulbs were out and the birds were singing, I particularly enjoyed my walk today.

Perhaps it was coming after yesterday's announcement, but I am feeling more positive and hopeful than I have for ages.

I love England in the spring. I'm sure Wales, Scotland and Ireland are lovely too, but have never been in the spring (and have never been to N Ireland at all).

I will be off to Devon as soon as overnight stays are allowed on 12 April (all being well). Can't wait!

@Loopyloututu2

And did those feet in ancient time Walk upon Englands mountains green: And was the holy Lamb of God, On Englands pleasant pastures seen!

And did the Countenance Divine,
Shine forth upon our clouded hills?
And was Jerusalem builded here,
Among these dark Satanic Mills?

Bring me my Bow of burning gold:
Bring me my arrows of desire:
Bring me my Spear: O clouds unfold!
Bring me my Chariot of fire!

I will not cease from Mental Fight,
Nor shall my sword sleep in my hand:
Till we have built Jerusalem,
In Englands green & pleasant Land.

No they didn't, but it's a nice song, even if the words are odd. Grin

I was thinking as I was going up to the shops that the weather really reminded me of summer holidays in North Wales when I was a child.

Sitting huddled under a blanket, looking out on beautiful sunshine with the wind buffeting into your face. Grin

AgnesNaismith · 23/02/2021 15:51

Sometimes I fantasise about living in a hot country near a beach. Then I remember summer in this country, it’s an unbeatable for me...cold rose in pub gardens, parks with fountains and beautiful flowers, old castles and picnics. Even paddling pool days with bbqs in the back garden are perfection.

MrsDThomas · 23/02/2021 16:28

@AlohaMolly im trying to make that path out. I know the view.❤️

AlohaMolly · 23/02/2021 16:39

@MrsDThomas strictly speaking this isn’t a path, we were geocaching and had to head on to the YHA grounds, does that help? GrinGrin

ZaraW · 23/02/2021 16:41

I'd take a spring day in Kyoto over England.

MrsDThomas · 23/02/2021 16:44

YHA of course! Now i know, its higher than the usual shot i often see.

countrygirl99 · 23/02/2021 17:11

Depends where in England. Tven in January there are a lot of places prettier then the Fens in spring.

LizzieBirmingham · 23/02/2021 17:13

Is that you, Nicola? Grin

Perish the thought!

Frequentflier · 23/02/2021 17:18

I have lived in 8 countries and in my opinion, you are right.

bloomingroses · 23/02/2021 17:18

@Roadhouse111

Ireland (specifically Northern) is just as lovely 😁
I think all Ireland is beautiful. From the Mountains of Mourne in the north to Connemara in the South.

@LunarCatAndDaffodils

“To think there is nowhere lovelier than England on a clear Spring day”

Well lie back and think of it whilst Brexit fucks you royally then.

Quietly though.

Eh? This is a really lovely thread. What’s England (and many other areas of the U.K.) being lovely in Spring got to do with Brexit Confused

What an unpleasant thing to say.

"Fucks you royally" - vile.

Well it’s not Spring yet! I take it you are not well travelled @FredSoftly?

I can think of loads of places that are as beautiful in Spring,we are all different, you just have an opinion, which is not the same as everyone else.
