Aibu to think that serving potatoes at all with salmon en croute is just unnecessary carbohydrates

Further to the thread on boiled potatoes, from what I could glean not one person pointed out that you are serving carbohydrates with what should be already an ample portion of carbohydrates in the pastry. We have salmon en croute with extra green veg to fill everyone up. Is it just me or do people not get what a healthy portion (especially carbohydrates) actually is? Don't get me started on garlic bread being served with pasta.......🤬

If I ever open my own bakery I will sell sausage en croutes to the pretentious foodies. 😂*
With the sausages from a can of beans and sausages?*

Ah yes, greggs sausage, bean and cheese encroute are also tasty -

@TheOrigRights

We don't have two lots of carbs in the same meal, it's one of the joys of having a pie; you don't need to do spuds or rice or whatever.
You are missing dipping the spuds/chips in the delicious pie filling, or the combo of the pie with buttery mash.

Sad times.

SooMoony · 23/02/2021 10:47

I'd rather have fishfinger sandwiches with salad cream and chips than your salmon encroute Grin

These competitive undereating threads are almost as funny as the tiny posters who still get mistaken for teenagers at 53.

I'd just like to say the replies on here have cheered me up this morning.

@fashu

I get stressed when people eat rice with Naan. I mean I DO eat naan and rice in the same meal but it goes through me when people put rice on their naan! I eat the curry first with naan and then pour the rest of the curry on my rice.
The best is curry and chips rolled up in a big naan....
thecatsthecats · 23/02/2021 10:48

My body violently dislikes low carbing.

I can happily double carb without gaining weight. My family served a lot of low protein, high carb and veg meals as a kid and we did endless exercise (we climbed a mountain every Sunday).

And since I've lost six stone, I'm very in tune with what does and doesn't make my body tick.

Oh, and one of my favourite meals is a huuuuuuge salad, so you don't need to worry about my carb intake on my behalf. Grin

Boeuf en Croute a la Neuchateloise. Mmm.

PurpleDaisies · 23/02/2021 10:49

Burger and chips. Can't stand a burger bun and chips
Me neither. It’s awful when someone nicks your burger out of your bun.
Directionerforever · 23/02/2021 10:49

@Ihopeyourcakeisshit definitely only one. The only thing you shouldn’t do with carbs is waste them.

SchadenfreudePersonified · 23/02/2021 10:49

Nobody dies from having a slice of garlic bread with their pasta, or a couple of potatoes with their fish.

To be fair, if you eat as fast as I do it's a distinct possibility. Garlic bread laden with macaroni cheese is a distinct choking hazard.

I'm just here for the 'thread about a thread' deletion message

Why do you care what order other people eat their meals? DD mixes her curry and rice together then spreads it on her naan like a pizza topping. I like to alternate between a mouthful with rice and dipping the naan. There's no set way you must eat it!

Our latest lockdown find is a local Indian restaurant that does various very nice quality takeaways and heat at home options as a way of surviving during the pandemic.

The best thing is a 'naan izza' which is a naan bread, topped with things like pieces of chicken tikka and onion bhajis, covered in masala chips and melted cheese. At the risk of being accused of being an under eater, it does take me about 3 days to finish one, but they are massive and I just like to make the enjoyment last as long as possible.

Served with Jersey Royal new potatoes, (with butter) veg and a béarnaise sauce, perfect.
You need to chill and get yourself a deep fat fryer. It’s not what you eat but how much and I’m really bloody thin, too thin.

IndecentCakes · 23/02/2021 10:54

Who eats crisps with sandwiches?
It's crisps in the sandwich if you want to do it right.

Eckhart · 23/02/2021 10:55

Where is OP?!

I just can’t get on board with crisp sandwiches. I love crisps. The crispiness is too much in a sandwich.
OldRailer · 23/02/2021 10:56

The crisp butty. Irresistible.

SchadenfreudePersonified · 23/02/2021 10:56

@Abouttimemum

To be fair when I read that thread I did think what a waste of carbohydrate calories boiled potatoes are. But if someone had made the effort to put them in front of me as part of a meal I’d eat them of course.
It would be discourteous not to. Grin

If you pair the crisps with a nice cheddar cheese it balances the crunch!

LizzieBirmingham · 23/02/2021 10:56

It is very clear from this thread which posters are fun at parties, and which posters have cat’s bums for mouths Grin

Where is OP?!
She just wanted a nice fatty bashing/competitive eating thread but it's not exactly gone how she hoped...
ConsuelaHammock · 23/02/2021 10:57

Potatoes are one of the best foods you can eat. They’re cheap, nutritious, filling and easy to cook . The salmon without the pastry and the potatoes would be a better option.

gigity · 23/02/2021 10:58

Ooh yay a competitive under-eating thread!

Why is this so prevalent on MN?

PurpleDaisies · 23/02/2021 10:58

The cheese would be ruined by the crisp shards.

I’ll stick to having my —family sized bag— of crisps on the side.
