Aibu to think that serving potatoes at all with salmon en croute is just unnecessary carbohydrates

Further to the thread on boiled potatoes, from what I could glean not one person pointed out that you are serving carbohydrates with what should be already an ample portion of carbohydrates in the pastry. We have salmon en croute with extra green veg to fill everyone up. Is it just me or do people not get what a healthy portion (especially carbohydrates) actually is? Don't get me started on garlic bread being served with pasta.......🤬

@LolaSmiles

Why does mumsnet hate carbs so much? It's only some mumsnet mummies that hate carbs, usually whilst claiming their tall, skinny, athletic sons wolf down 6 potions of carbs a meal and never put a pound on, and their DH also eats huge amounts and never gains weight because he is on the go all day.Smile

@PurpleDaisies

When did carbs become the devil? Carbs are fine.

This thread has given me a much needed laugh.

Mumsnet sanctimonious bore of the day award goes to you op - have a much needed biscuit Biscuit

LivingDeadGirlUK · 23/02/2021 10:29

YABU potatoes go with everything, next you will be saying there is no point in having mash with pie!

EuroTrashed · 23/02/2021 10:30

oh god mash and steak & ale pie. #triggering for the watery mouth

midnightstar66 · 23/02/2021 10:30

Anything en croute is pretentious pish.

Nonsense, pastry makes everything better. I love a good sausage en croute from greggs!

Tinacollada · 23/02/2021 10:30

"Unnecessary carbohydrates"

Fuck me.

But will that be today's portion of carbs? 🤔

No, they don't. They start threads trying to demonise a certain food group and how people eat. It's quite disturbing. Those people (you) should get help for your food fear.
Or just stop being a massive goady nobber.

SpiceRat · 23/02/2021 10:32

Nah, chicken en croute is fucking delish. Basically chicken ham and cheesy pasty you can have as a meal, and a pasty can never be pretentious.

You mean this year’s portion of carbs...

EuroTrashed · 23/02/2021 10:32

Can I throw cornish pasty (with lumps of potato and carrot in it) served with mash? or indeed chips, it's a broad church. CHIPS AND BEANS. Quadruple carbs right there in glorious flaky deliciousness.

Lynora · 23/02/2021 10:33

If I ever open my own bakery I will sell sausage en croutes to the pretentious foodies. 😂

cardibach · 23/02/2021 10:35

Still no answer to the question of what garlic bread can be eaten with if not pasta I see... somebody did suggest it as a starter, but I didn’t see what difference that makes...it’s still ‘with pasta’ if pasta is your main course, isn’t it?
Anyone got any ideas?

Bagelsandbrie · 23/02/2021 10:35

I love carbs.

Fed up with everyone being so anti carbs. Eat a bit of everything, move lots and enjoy your life. No point living till 100 if you spent your whole time depriving yourself of everything you enjoy.

Chanandlerbong01 · 23/02/2021 10:36

I eat mash, roast potato AND Yorkshire puddings with a Sunday dinner. The broccoli has carbs too! From that you would probably make assumptions of me, but that would be ridiculous because it’s only one meal out of my week and you have no idea about the rest of my meals. Get a life.

This feels like being in primary school when you would talk about someone so that they can hear.

Hobbesmanc · 23/02/2021 10:37

I'm type two so I do try to avoid double carbs - so sadly no garlic bread and I'd skip rice if there was a naan on offer. But somethings can't be skipped. Roast potato, stuffing and a yorkie is a triple whammy!

I had it with baked camembert a couple of days ago. It was a carby gooey cheesy heaven Grin

With the sausages from a can of beans and sausages? Wink
Inpersuitofhappiness · 23/02/2021 10:37

Does this mean if you have a steak and ale pie you don't serve it with tatties of any kind?

Just out of interest. How many potatoes do I sub for only the top pie crust?Hmm

BarbaraofSeville · 23/02/2021 10:37

Quadruple carb menu du jour

Macaroni cheese pie with chips and garlic bread

Traditional Cornish meat and potato pastie with chips and beans

Lasagne, chips, garlic bread and mac n cheese bites

All served with suet pudding and custard for afters

That should set the OP and all the other carb fearers off rocking in a corner.

SleepingStandingUp · 23/02/2021 10:39

Yabu.

And pretty pathetic to start a thread deriding someone else for their food choices when you could have just commented on their thread.

And because you're missing out on pie and mash, pie and chips, chip butty, mash butty, cheese and potato pie and chips and bread and butter, crisp butties, lasagne and chips, lasagne and garlic bread, just to mention a few

But mainly your just petty

majesticallyawkward · 23/02/2021 10:40

Unnecessary carbohydrates

Nope, not getting it. Those words do not go together. I have never met a carb and felt it unnecessary.

Tried low carb once, it was the most miserable 2 days of my life. Never again

thelegohooverer · 23/02/2021 10:40

Serving only one type of potatoes with a meal is downright mean.
