Aibu to think that serving potatoes at all with salmon en croute is just unnecessary carbohydrates

Further to the thread on boiled potatoes, from what I could glean not one person pointed out that you are serving carbohydrates with what should be already an ample portion of carbohydrates in the pastry. We have salmon en croute with extra green veg to fill everyone up. Is it just me or do people not get what a healthy portion (especially carbohydrates) actually is? Don't get me started on garlic bread being served with pasta.......🤬

I thought about you tonight OP, as I used a garlic flatbread to convey large quantities of pasta from my plate to my mouth. Followed the meal up with an orange, for balance. That Terry does a lovely smooth chocolate.

Anyone fancy a chip butty?

Sorry my last comment did not address carbs! Can one ever have too many potatoes??? 🤔🤔🤔 I think not.
Same. To me, potatoes any which way plus gravy is a complete meal Grin

(For the benefit of the OP, healthy BMI)

toocold54 · 23/02/2021 22:47

I really wish I wasn’t on a low carb diet after reading this!

Redglitter · 23/02/2021 22:48

First time I'm out for dinner in my fave local restaurant ill be ordering their Macaroni Cheese with garlic bread & chips. A total carbfest & not a veggie in sight. Cant wait!!

MissJeanLouise · 23/02/2021 22:50

Really want a chip butty now.
Unnecessary carbs=oxymoron 🤣

ladygindiva · 23/02/2021 22:53

Perfect timing. We had pizza for tea today, and he did it again, made a sandwich with it, couldn't understand why I cracked up 🤣

PickAChew · 23/02/2021 23:07

My brother used to make a sandwich with peanut butter and one of those little frozen pizzas inside. Turned out he has the proper munchies, mind!

I'm reluctantly in the potatoes over pastry camp. Mentioned the heart burn from salmon en croute, earlier, but I'm in my 50s, I have an annual fight to get my bmi into the "healthy" range, my digestive system is an arsehole, large amounts of carbs give me the shakes, animal fats give me the sweats and more than tiny amounts of dairy tie my guts in knots. I still have to, and sometimes fail to, talk myself out of it, though.

I do feel lucky but its not just me! Theres lots of us out there :) Its a sliding scale of the versions of AMY1 you have copied in your genes.

You can test yourself with a cracker or a biscuit. Rich Tea Biscuits taste like sweet blackcurrant squash to me after about 5 seconds - I always used to enjoy nibbling through them like a hamster as a kid. I thought it happened when a biscuit touches your canines. I only found the reason for all this a few years back but it instantly explained the few times in my life where I inexplicably ballooned in weight (when I moved in with my partners 'health' addict parents - never been so simultaneously starving and fat!).

BBC covered it last year
www.bbc.co.uk/programmes/p068tc8j

It is all quite fascinating and I am proud to be a carb eater :)

HopingForOurRainbowBaby · 24/02/2021 00:20

Pasta with garlic bread. What a sacrilege it's a must that it's got to have chips on the plate as well!!

DontFuckingCallMeCis · 24/02/2021 01:47

@Redglitter errrm garlic and potatoes? Both veggies! 👍👍👍

DH couldn't believe my home country (Scotland) considered macaroni cheese to be a normal filling for a baked potato.
He didn't believe this until he saw it for himself.
But it is lovely.

TheTeenageYears · 24/02/2021 05:03

Completely agree, it's the same with pie - pie, veg and gravy is absolutely fine, no need for mash too.

As for people serving pizza and chips - I just don't understand why anyone thinks that's a good idea. Pasta and garlic bread is slightly different IMO but would only ever be once in a blue moon and on a less pasta, more sauce basis. What about dinner rolls in the US - why do people feel the need to eat bread with every meal?

As a kid in the 70's we used to bulk out meals with bread and butter. Might be a similar hangover from the past.

What does he think of the macaroni pie?

I bet op would hate that. A carb pie!

To be fair though, as a born and bred scot, I've never heard of a baked tattie with macaroni cheese. But like so many oither things, maybe it's regional.

Ylvamoon · 24/02/2021 07:06

Stop demonising the humble potato!

It's delicious. HTH

MrBullinaChinaShop · 24/02/2021 07:35

I had pizza and wedges covered in melted cheese the other day. Double carbs and double cheese. It was delicious, and I’m still not overweight 🤷🏻‍♀️. Ran 10k an hour later.

Me neither, it's common to have with chips but I can't imagine having it on a baked tattie. It's too plain and mushy I feel it would dull the sparkle of the deliciousness that is macaroni cheese

Greenmarmalade · 24/02/2021 08:33

YANBU. Garlic bread with pasta is a bit mad.

Agreed that it must be regional. I'm from Glasgow and never heard of macaroni cheese in a baked potato (though I'm certainly not averse to giving it a go!). Love a macaroni pie though. 😂

I am a front-line health care professional who sees and deals with the consequences of a poor diet on a daily basis

Like many here, I think its just wonderful that our hard pressed front liners are so committed, that they still make time to come and tell a bunch of silly women that erudite advice "simply eat less".

So committed that they do it ieven when they plainly have no professional expertise in diet and nutrition.

Truly miraculous. Flowers

nameisnotimportant · 24/02/2021 08:56

Ooosh I love some garlic bread with my pasta. My guess is you would hate watching me eat my wotsit sandwich 🤣

BidensWingWoman · 24/02/2021 09:02

Love a macaroni pie though

IKR! I've been craving one ever since i posted about it...
