Aibu to think that serving potatoes at all with salmon en croute is just unnecessary carbohydrates

Further to the thread on boiled potatoes, from what I could glean not one person pointed out that you are serving carbohydrates with what should be already an ample portion of carbohydrates in the pastry. We have salmon en croute with extra green veg to fill everyone up. Is it just me or do people not get what a healthy portion (especially carbohydrates) actually is? Don't get me started on garlic bread being served with pasta.......🤬

Personally I just rub a salmon fillet over our “massive portion of green veggies” for the flavour. You really don’t need a full potion of salmon, think of all the fats! And imagine wrapping salmon up in pastry 😵

ArseInTheCoOpWindow · 23/02/2021 16:28

I’d like to meet these children who fill up on green veg.

Mine would only eat trees ( broccoli) until about 12 or so.

If you're struggling on veggies, have you tried a big, chunky salad? That's also a foolproof option that fills children up for the whole day.WinkGrin

You haven’t carbed yourself until you’ve stuffed a naan with spiced potatoes and rice.

Ihopeyourcakeisshit · 23/02/2021 16:33

We have a carb loading winner 🏆

Wishimaywishimight · 23/02/2021 16:34

I really really want a burger, chips and onion rings (with garlic dip) for dinner. The onion counts as a portion of veg, right??

ArabellaScott · 23/02/2021 16:35

you mean, like a 'Glasgow salad'?*

*chips

chips
I've never heard that expression. Grin I love it.

HermitsLife · 23/02/2021 16:40

I'm sorry, you lost me at unnecessary carbohydrates. What is an unnecessary carbohydrate?

Volcanoexplorer · 23/02/2021 16:41

I like carbs so I’ll eat them how I like. Don’t really care what other people think. Don’t eat it if you don’t like it.

Pebbledashery · 23/02/2021 16:42

Op. You need some joy in your life

Unnecessary Carbs = joy

Nothing further to be said.

poppycat10 · 23/02/2021 16:57

@Joinedjustforthispost

You wouldn’t approve of my carb curry’s then op? Usually my curry’s contain chickpeas, sweet potatoes to bulk them out so I use less meat served with basmati rice! Carbs are life Grin
I was thinking this - I make potato and sweet potato soup - and eat bread with it!

It's really not that hard. Carbs aren't poison, fat isn't poison, sugar isn't even poison. No food is unhealthy in moderation. Just eat, in moderation, and enjoy food without obsessing about macronutrients

Exactly.

I do eat loads of vegetables, I have just eaten two carrots while I've been wasting time on MN and ate a bag of cherry tomatoes earlier on. But to make up for the healthy stuff, I ate some mini-eggs (only about 5 or 6, not the whole bag!) at lunchtime, and some crisps, too.

@halvedfees

Have you actually learned anything about the health implications of eating carbs/fat/protein, or is this just you v fat people?

'Is it just me or do people not get it' isn't how to start a conversation re challenging the norm - it comes across as much more superior and accusatory than that, and you must know that.

Lastly, why do you think you are in a position to criticise (or 'challenge') anybody's food choices when you buy ready made food yourself?

It really is baffling. Are you some sort of 'qualified', or do you just like your layman's opinions to be regarded as facts that you think idiots don't understand?

Eckhart · 23/02/2021 17:00

@SpilltheTea

Excess calories make you fat, not carbs.
It is true though that carbs can make your body desperately crave excess calories, in a way that fat and protein do not.

Looking at most of these replies you can see why 66% of the population is overweight

You don't have to be on a permanent diet to avoid being overweight, you know.

Ihopeyourcakeisshit · 23/02/2021 17:04

I am adopting Glasgow salad, that's great!

MrsToadlike · 23/02/2021 17:05

I absolutely love carbs but when I had the audacity to not serve potatoes alongside lasagne once my in-laws were not impressed at all. They are quite judgemental people anyway about all sorts of topics but I wasn't sure why my choice of meal deserved such censure Hmm

ArabellaScott · 23/02/2021 17:12

Glasgow salad was taken from Viz, about four hundred million coronaries ago!

doadeer · 23/02/2021 17:15

I follow the Italian Nonnas making pasta instagram - they are incredible. 90+ years old. I really can't get on board with the anti carb brigade. Millions around the world have rice every day, or pasta or bread.

DH follows them too, so I see occasional clips -- they are entirely formidable and fascinating.
grapewine · 23/02/2021 17:20

The obsession on here about what other people eat is so tiresome.

MustStopSnacking28 · 23/02/2021 17:20

I’m having Nando’s tonight - chicken pitta, chips and spicy rice. I must be struck down by the carb police forthwith!

trappedsincesundaymorn · 23/02/2021 17:22

TBH I'd eat the potatoes, veg and pastry and chuck the salmon in the bin.

Pandoraslastchance · 23/02/2021 17:41

There's nothing nicer than lasagne with chips!!!!

I can't eat carbs any more as I do over eat them but my children who are growing get carbs and have had double carbs.
