Aibu to think that serving potatoes at all with salmon en croute is just unnecessary carbohydrates

Further to the thread on boiled potatoes, from what I could glean not one person pointed out that you are serving carbohydrates with what should be already an ample portion of carbohydrates in the pastry. We have salmon en croute with extra green veg to fill everyone up. Is it just me or do people not get what a healthy portion (especially carbohydrates) actually is? Don't get me started on garlic bread being served with pasta.......🤬

My neighbour while often orders a tattie fritter roll with a steak pie from local chippy. He’s actually always been very underweight. Wouldn’t say he was healthy though.... he’s got that Scottish kind of grey look... peely wally 😂

Megan2018 · 23/02/2021 14:49

I love double carbs.

Carbs for the win.

justcannotwithyou · 23/02/2021 14:54

You need extra veg on the side to be full?
Jesus, I just nibble the corner of the en croute and roll away from the table feeling like a piggy and drink water with an oxo cube in it for the next 3 days to make up for the total overload of fat and carbs.

You nibble on food. OMG. I just look at the cucumber in the supermarket and I'm full for the week.

SummerHouse · 23/02/2021 14:59

@2021WillBeMyBitch

What about garlic bread being served with lasagne AND chips?

Yum 😋

This is what my work canteen serves.... FOR LUNCH!
Tureen · 23/02/2021 15:04

I still don't understand what the OP is so fussed about potatoes, but the pastry gets a free pass. Is it because it's 'en croute' so it's not as common as a potato?

Exactly. It is because it is French. Eat it and you will look like Charlotte Gainsbourg and automatically develop a capsule wardrobe of black and ballet flats.

On the other hand, get a chip supper and a tatty pie down at Abdul's to go with your voddies and Tia Maria and in no time you'll be wrestling Big Shirl from down the docks in the gutter outside the Drunken Duck. Grin

I do have an issue with overeating as evident by my nibbling but do hope to get to a point where a simple sniff of the en croute satisfies me.
Wishimaywishimight · 23/02/2021 15:07

What do you mean by "extra green veg"? Is it that you were planning on having some veg with the salmon and then figured you'd add more? Is veg plus more veg not just "veg" rather than "extra"? What is it "extra" to?

I am giving this more thought than is necessary despite the fact it is a daft thread!

RedRec · 23/02/2021 15:09

'Unnecessary carbohydrates' - isn't that an oxymoron?

minnimiss · 23/02/2021 15:10

I'm eating double carbs and wearing double denim right now!

majesticallyawkward · 23/02/2021 15:11

@ladygindiva

Dp has a round of bread with pizza and makes a pizza sandwich. I kid you not 🤣
My dh is a fan of the pizza cheese burger- you take 2 individual size pizzas and use them as the bun for the burger and cheese slice. With a side of Mac and cheese bites and chips.

Some of our local takeaways do a chipparmo- chips with beschemel sauce and cheese (various other toppings can be added). Game changer, and just a super side for a pizza!

Please tell me you are washing it down with a double Malibu and coke (not diet)!

OP - I hope your arse isn't carbs, since it has been handed to you on a plate Wink

SilverGlassHare · 23/02/2021 15:22

@PurpleDaisies

And what on earth would you eat garlic bread with if not pasta/pizza?!

We regularly have garlic bread with chilli and rice or shepherd’s pie. Two fine examples of double carbing.

I should have said, what aside from other carbs... Grin

I suppose you might eat it with just chilli, to be fair. And actually we like it with soup.

No! Think of the NHS!
Bubblemonkey · 23/02/2021 15:23

carbs = life Grin

Imapotato · 23/02/2021 15:23

Mmmmmm carbs. Nothing finer in the world than garlic bread and pasta.

People get so worked up on here about other people’s diets. If you just want veg, just have veg. But don’t bang on about what other people choose to eat.

NeedToGetOuttaHere · 23/02/2021 15:24

Chips and rice together are the best and the boiled potatoes aren’t the problem the pastry is.

Affectation · 23/02/2021 15:28

As long as the extra veg is green. Sometimes I just cut straight to chlorophyll IV infusions lest a saccharide, of any chain length, be consumed with my salmon en croute.

ChristOnAPeloton · 23/02/2021 15:32

Hmm. I’m sort of with the OP- but that’s only because I like a certain amount of moisture in my food to make it personally palatable.

I’d just rather have an extra large portion of greasy cream-filled pastry with salad or green veg on the side than double dry carbs.

Pizza/pasta with garlic Fred is a no-no (unless it’s veggie lasagna AND there’s salad). We tend to have garlic Fred with classic Heinz soup.

I likes me food wet. Beige breadcrumb stuff gives me the boke.

It is because it is covered in pastry that you have bo choice with, that I personally find potatoes an unnecessary accompaniment.

I have found this whole thread fascinating, it is quite obvious I am completely out of touch with reality. No offence meant to anyone, no pretentious sneering, no nothing. Just a genuine question from someone who sees the effect of diet on people's health day in, day out. I

I'll not comment any more, as I said I am obviously more eccentric than I thought I was Grin

You have the choice whether to buy salmon en croute or just salmon though.

SchrodingersImmigrant · 23/02/2021 15:35

Again. Double carbs don't cause obesity...
