Aibu to think that serving potatoes at all with salmon en croute is just unnecessary carbohydrates

Further to the thread on boiled potatoes, from what I could glean not one person pointed out that you are serving carbohydrates with what should be already an ample portion of carbohydrates in the pastry. We have salmon en croute with extra green veg to fill everyone up. Is it just me or do people not get what a healthy portion (especially carbohydrates) actually is? Don't get me started on garlic bread being served with pasta.......🤬

My adult daughter still orders this when she comes home 😂😂

NeverDropYourMoonCup · 23/02/2021 12:50

@BlooperReel

*BlooperReel

Don't go to an east end pie and mash shop OP, pie and double mash would give you a seizure.

Double mash?! Is that a double portion or is there some other kind of mash available?*

Double portion Grin

Surely you mean Double Double with extra Liquor?
LalalalalalaLand123 · 23/02/2021 12:50

There is no way that green veg would fill me up Confused I def need extra carbs with pastry in order to feel full. I also enjoy potatoes with pastry dishes, they are enjoyable. Great for you if you don't OP. Hmm
Part of my family are Greek - OP your head would explode if you saw the number of different carbs that Greek meals include on one plate!

Slurtdragon · 23/02/2021 12:51

On my Sunday roast your looking at Roasties, Mash AND Yorkshire’s. Every. Sunday. Oh yessum. Yum yum. Give me the carby goodness 😌 I know it’s not good; I still however embrace it, accept it, and eat it graciously though. Enjoying every fattening bite.

However - I do see what you’re saying OP.

mumsiedarlingrevolta · 23/02/2021 12:51

@Potterythrowdown

Quite agree OP, I only eat half a potato on Christmas Day and that's enough for the year.
thanks for a well needed laugh.

Although we share our half potato between our family of 5...

00100001 · 23/02/2021 12:52

"Pick veg you like then"

I pick potatoes.

@halvedfees

Wow! Sorry have been working. So not a judge and run thread. I am not joyless as somebody put it. I am a front-line health care professional who sees and deals with the consequences of a poor diet on a daily basis. I was surprised with the UK having the highest obesity in Western Europe, the effect of covid on obese people etc etc that no-one seemed to mention it.

Obviously it is OK as an occasional meal, or if you have no problem controlling your weight, but as a regular thing? Do we not need to start questioning things like this, if we are to have any hope of saving the NHS in the longer term?

Probably will get flamed again for daring to question what is perceived as normal Grin

Mum's been a healthy weight or underweight her whole life.

She mostly eats carbs. Docs say she is doing extremely well for her age, touch wood.

I don't want to save the NHS after this but that's a separate thread.

00100001 · 23/02/2021 12:53

@mumsiedarlingrevolta

What do you do with the leftovers?

FellowFlipFlop · 23/02/2021 12:54

Although we share our half potato between our family of 5...

You could just be thirsty, have you tried drinking a pint of water before you eat the potato? Imagine how smug you could be if you could forego it and just fill up on green veg instead

PickAChew · 23/02/2021 12:55

I wouldn't eat salmon en croute with anything, tbh. Last time I had it, I ended up with dreadful heartburn.

LuaDipa · 23/02/2021 12:55

@JesusAteMyHamster

I do like a good, mucky carb.

Chinese takeaway for example.......chips, rice, battered chicken balls, noodles, prawn toast maybe a few wontons and a spring roll........ It's like a carb soup 😂😂😂

God yes!!!

Am doing low carb at the minute but how I miss them!!!

Dinkydody · 23/02/2021 12:57

Or a scotch pie in a buttered roll 😋

UntamedWisteria · 23/02/2021 13:00

Actually I was the only person on the other thread who DID point that out OP!

DreamingofAruba · 23/02/2021 13:00

I saved the NHS today, by only having single carbs for lunch. Half a baguette with a burger, some bacon and a fried egg. I put some lettuce in there too, though, so i could fill up on green veg. Go me! Grin

turquoisewaters · 23/02/2021 13:02

Boiled potatoes are vile Grin

Sargass0 · 23/02/2021 13:03

@MildredPuppy

Well yes it is two servings of carbs.

Perhaps they eat clear chicken broth and a boiled egg for their other meals.

That's terrible. Everybody knows it's lasagna, CURLY FRIES and garlic bread!
alibongo5 · 23/02/2021 13:04

I am now wistfully thinking of when the pubs are going to open so I can have lasagne, chips and garlic bread down my local.

BadBear · 23/02/2021 13:05

Is today the National Anal Retentive Day? First the thread about someone washing bedding at 30 degrees now this...

Potatoes are potatoes and they're good with just about everything and no you want become obese from having some of them even you have more carbs as part of your meal. If you want to be extra pedantic about it, it's all about the total amount of carbs as part of your total macros every day.

Chemenger · 23/02/2021 13:05

I had a pork pie and some pickle for lunch. Single carb therefore healthy.

BadBear · 23/02/2021 13:06

I think you're definitely doing your bit for the country @DreamingofAruba Wink

MissBridgetJones · 23/02/2021 13:06

Some of these responses have made my day!

I'm off to have Spaghetti Hoops on toast for lunch. Imagine!!

Paperyfish · 23/02/2021 13:06

I’m 8 and half months pregnant. I just ate a crisps sandwich. I am considering a second one. The baby told me to. The kids looked interested. Maybe they’d like one tomorrow.

Covidcorvid · 23/02/2021 13:07

A restaurant owner once refused to serve me garlic bread starter as I was having pizza for the main course. He said it was too much.

I was 9 months pregnant and to be honest I don't know how he survived!

I went into labour two hours later, I think it was the stress of being denied garlic bread! :)

Kinneddar · 23/02/2021 13:09

Vegetables are bloody delicious and enjoyable to eat

Thats a matter of opinion

Nonamesavail · 23/02/2021 13:10

I love pizza, pasta and garlic bread together!
