Aibu to think that serving potatoes at all with salmon en croute is just unnecessary carbohydrates

Further to the thread on boiled potatoes, from what I could glean not one person pointed out that you are serving carbohydrates with what should be already an ample portion of carbohydrates in the pastry. We have salmon en croute with extra green veg to fill everyone up. Is it just me or do people not get what a healthy portion (especially carbohydrates) actually is? Don't get me started on garlic bread being served with pasta.......🤬

@loverley

My South African friends all serve rice with Shepherds pie. Now that I find weird.
In some Caribbean countries they have rice and peas on a roast dinner.

I love seeing it mentioned on here so I can guess how long it will be before the predictable disbelief from a Eurocentric demographic shows up.

60sbird · 23/02/2021 12:29

My mum used to do cottage pie with chips, who puts potatoes with more potatoes I serve it with cauliflower cheese

ChristmasFluff · 23/02/2021 12:29

How come all these people so concerned about the NHS are not telling people with anorexia and other eating disorders to eat more, on the competitive under-eating threads?

But no, it's always fat-shaming and fat bashing, even when people aren't necessarily overweight, but are just having their tea.

Maybe, as my mother used to say, you should keep your eyes on your own plate.

The more we diet, the fatter this country is becoming. Intuitive eating is the way forward

Cissyandflora · 23/02/2021 12:30

I have never met an unnecessary carbohydrate.

Blockedoff · 23/02/2021 12:32

@halvedfees as a front line NHS worker, I find this comment odd

For one reason, it is sold in fixed portion sizes and people tend to finish what is on their plate. For one reason, it is sold in fixed portion sizes and people tend to finish what is on their plate.

You do realise that you can make your own, as someone so worried about saving the NHS and peoples diet, I'm surprised you wouldn't make your own.

Your sanctimonious enough

isadorapolly · 23/02/2021 12:33

Not everyone’s on a diet 🤷🏻‍♀️

wildthingsinthenight · 23/02/2021 12:34

Cissyandflora same..

OP you seem to have issues around food and I hope you're trying hard not to pass these on to your children

Boiledpotatowitch · 23/02/2021 12:35

@Cissyandflora Quite agree

You serve cauliflower cheese with cottage pie?! 😲
wildthingsinthenight · 23/02/2021 12:38

This is making me hungry...

JustTurtlesAllTheWayDown · 23/02/2021 12:39

Feeling sorry for all the people missing out on the pure delight that is garlic bread with pasta

starfishmummy · 23/02/2021 12:41

@EachBleachBlairTrump

I couldn't eat potatoes with pastry, the horror! I ate half a crumpet for breakfast today that's plenty until autumn.
You glutton!! A quarter crumpet should be enough to last until the end of the year.
Annalou30 · 23/02/2021 12:41

No, what would be ‘better for you’ is to make your own bleedin’ salmon en croute. Carbs are not the enemy here, pre-prepared, processed food is what leads to most weight issues. People in glass houses...

Mykidshatepastabake · 23/02/2021 12:43

Yanbu I completely agree with you

It's ridiculous the amount of people who fill up on bread before the main meal arrives ( restaurants)

Crazycactuslady · 23/02/2021 12:43

Aaaaand now I fancy pasta and garlic bread for tea Grin That's tonight sorted....

starfishmummy · 23/02/2021 12:43

@Sportsnight

Ooh this is making me want a chip butty
With the butter running down ones chin.....
NotSeenBulling · 23/02/2021 12:43

I think anyone that doesn't eat boiled spudders is missing out on all the different lovely flavours and textures of them.

Boiled or better still steamed and you get the full benefit. The secret is not to stick to the boring supermarket tatties and don't buy in bulk. They are choc full of vitamins and minerals and are chuffing lovely. Just don't eat vast enough amounts to make you fat is all.

MichelleScarn · 23/02/2021 12:43

I was trying to find pics of a potato fritter roll chip supper and came across this! I remember it doing the twitter rounds a few years ago.. A 'Glasgow Salad' Grin this would have been demolished by drunken student me and flatmates!

Exhausteddog · 23/02/2021 12:44

*My mum does this with any sort of chocolate bar, like a standard sized Wispa or a biscuit or something.

"Oh I couldn'tpossiblyeat the whole thinglike you greedy bastardswho wants half?"

She forgets that I lived with her for 23 years, and I know exactly what her diet is like. There is a reason she's been obese all of my life and it is not because she can only eat half a wispa 🙄*

Sometimes I pretend I'm only going to eat 2 sticks of a 4 stick kitkat (dont judge me for buying nestle) I break of 2 sticks, and put the other 2 in the fridge. ....but they are so lonely there and cry ...so 10 min later I have to go back to the fridge and rescue them GrinGrin
At least I've done about 50 extra steps by going to the fridge unnecessarily! Grin

Cornishbelle · 23/02/2021 12:45

Where's the 'gets popcorn out' gif? Or would i then have to be carb free until 2022? If the carbs are virtual??

Letsrunabath · 23/02/2021 12:45

At the weekend I had white bread thick with salted butter, salted chips and ketchup. Heavenly

SirenSays · 23/02/2021 12:45

I don't understand all the carb hatred, in the army is was drilled into us carbs are fuel and to eat them with every meal, especially breakfast. Surely things like sugar are worse? Why don't we ever see those threads?

NeverDropYourMoonCup · 23/02/2021 12:46

@fucknuckle

if you ever find yourself thinking about how to ‘bulk out’ a meal you need to take a long, hard look at yourself.

it’s so joyless that even Margaret Thatcher would think it’s a bit much. just cook a proper meal. nobody wants mountains of
kale to plod through.

Mountains of Kale are lovely.

Once they're stirred into the saucepan full of mashed potato, milk, butter, sea salt, grating of Nutmeg and put on the plate with Petits Pois, carrots, pork/lamb chop, baked apple and half a pint of super thick gravy.

If you're feeling really virtuous, you can add softened sliced Leeks and/or Spring Onions for that extra vegetable virtuosity.
