To think DH should know you don’t wash dirty bed linen at 30 degrees?

I know it’s not the end of the world but honestly, he is 38 and now it’s probably going to have to go on again. He has a sweaty head and pillowcases are unlikely to be clean after this wash. I already have to do our bedding in 2 loads as it’s so big and we don’t have a spare set so it all needs to be dry and back in the bed tonight.

Surely it won't matter this one time, have you other clean pillowcases you can use?

It really depends on what fabric you are using, what colour pillow case are etc. If it's a darker or brighter colour 30 can be fine - modern detergents are designed to work at lower temperatures, the higher temperatures kill the biological enzymes that do the cleaning. Also polycotton etc tends to come out cleaner than pure cotton on a low temperature.

If its white/light yanbu, it needs a hotter wash.

Even my son's dirty playing out clothes get washed at 30. Never any issues.

I wash most tings at 30 for environmental reasons. What do you think will happen? Are your sheets really filthy? Bio powder works best at low temperatures anyway.

I wash everything at 30.
But even if I didn’t, it will be fine just once won’t it? It will be washed again soon enough. Or just re-wash the pillowcase if that particularly bothers you.

Depending on the detergent you use, it can be completely fine at 30.

Yanbu. Why do most women know these simple things but so many men don't?

My dh simply forgets this sort of information. He isn't lazy or a housework shirker at all, but he forgets things like this and simple recipes. It's not that he wants to get out of doing them, it's like it's the sort of information that doesn't compute with him.

What bacteria is there that won't be washed off by the water and the action of the washing machine? Bedding needs to be clean but it doesn't need to be sterile.

Everything should be washed at 30. Better for the environment. Never had a problem

Bacteria killing needs a 60°c wash anyway doesn't it?

We are also a household where pretty much never is the washing machine on above 30.

Eh? Bio powder and 30 degrees works fine. You also won’t die even if it is still slightly dirty. Not worth even giving this thought. Maybe it’s exactly what his DMum does. I’ll be showing my DSs to wash like this.

I always imagine these was at 30 for everything types, also washing their hands in cold water. After all soap is soap.

I always do bedding on a hot wash but really it's not that big a deal. The washing machine jiggles it all around and jiggles all the nasty stuff off to a large extent anyway. The bacteria might not be dead but they're mostly in the water that got rinsed away. I'd put it back on the bed and forget about it and then go back to the usual temperature next week.

I wash my sheets at 30, doesn’t seem to be an issue! And even if you don’t usually wash at 30, once won’t be an issue.

Surely your life would be so much easier if you had a second set of sheets? You could do a wash and dry at your leisure with clean sheets at your disposal.

I wash a lot on cold! Lightly soiled normal stuff - short cold wash seems absolutely fine. No skin conditions here to worry about etc.
Bedding on 30 with some laundry ‘bleach’ (enzyme stuff) which is honestly amazing. Bedding comes out so crisp.
I Alternate 30 wash with a hot wash for bedding and towels. Never the hottest (which takes my machine around 3 hours!).
White towels are now around 10 years old and lovely and white still. (And perfect age softened)
