To think DH should know you don’t wash dirty bed linen at 30 degrees?

I know it’s not the end of the world but honestly, he is 38 and now it’s probably going to have to go on again. He has a sweaty head and pillowcases are unlikely to be clean after this wash. I already have to do our bedding in 2 loads as it’s so big and we don’t have a spare set so it all needs to be dry and back in the bed tonight.

I’m so irritated!

Is it really worth arguing and you being stroppy about it? Is it going g to kill anyone? No. Just put it on and say next time put it on 60!

Middersweekly · 25/02/2021 11:40

I wash everything at 60 degrees because I have dogs and they are long haired. Even if I didn’t have dogs I would still wash bed linen and towels at 60!

Mittens030869 · 25/02/2021 11:47

Everything here gets washed at thirty degrees too. Never been anything that wasn’t properly cleaned at that temperature. Confused

Hereiam2 · 25/02/2021 13:20

I wash sheets and towels on 60 wools on 40, silks or delicates on 30 I never buy non bio, I still have my baby burco boiler which on occasion I do a boil wash in ( especially if someone has been ill) I'm the first to hang a washing out when spring arrives.
I know it's old fashioned but I'm fine with doing it, but my question is why don't you have another change of bedding it must be a pain to have to wash, dry,and iron all that on one day.

caspersmagicaljourney · 25/02/2021 19:03

I wash bedlinen at 40C on a quick wash. That's usually sufficient, and I change the bed weekly.
I would recommend you get a spare set of bed linen though. What if one of you is ill in the night, what would you do then apart from panic?

Singlenotsingle · 25/02/2021 20:27

Oh for heaven's sake. Just tell him what temp you want used. Probably 60°?

Runnerduck34 · 26/02/2021 16:00

I wash all our bed linen at 60 degree cotton wash, just feels fresher and cleaner, DH sweats loads plus sometimes there are cat pawprints, period blood, or make up on pillow case etc so 30 degrees doesnt cut it, so Im with you OP, although if there are no stains and it comes out clean it will be fine

There are enzymes in biological detergent that break down protein so you shouldn't wash wool or silk in it.

What if he thinks it should be washed at 30, like many on here?

Who gets to overrule the other?

Or perhaps the one who’s loaded the washer decides?

Or are you putting the domestic decisions back on the female because they “naturally” know better Hmm

Temp is really only important if it’s too hot. If her dh put a load of wool or delicates on a boil wash and ruined stuff then that’s worth bringing up. Washing on 30? That does for nearly everything.

dysongirl · 27/02/2021 14:34

I wash all my bed linen at 60Wink

Lampzade · 27/02/2021 14:37

If you use biological powder 60 degrees would be too high. The biological enzymes work better at about 30 to 40 degrees

SurpriseOzzy · 06/08/2024 11:15

I wash at 40 degrees but we have a biological (Ariel) I’m hoping that’s ok!

A couple I know are very smug that they only wash at 30 degrees maximum, keep their heating either turned off or at 18 degrees in cold weather, only use basic soap and refuse to buy shower gel etc etc etc..
Their house is fucking freezing ( the salt is clumpy), their clothes, towels etc always dull and a bit grimy and they both smell musty!
Someone should have told them years ago that a warm house is more comfortable and that washing some things at 60 is better(ie 60 degrees gets rid of bed bug eggs) and some personal ‘smellies” is much nicer for the people who are in close physical contact.
The bloody misery of it all!
Yes, your DH needs to do as he’s told!!!

Sheets and towels are the one thing I ensure to wash at 60.

Gowlett · 09/08/2024 08:44

So many husband laundry problems out there…
It’s the one job I keep for myself. He can do the bins!

Twinklefloss · 09/08/2024 08:47

Grew up in house where the washing machine wasn’t even connected to to the hot tap and everything washed in cold water. Many (most?) of NZ washes their clothes in cold water (and properly cold, not 30). “Cold Water Surf” is one of the most popular washing detergents.

My family think I have airs and graces and am generally a princess as I now wash things at 30.

SurpriseOzzy · 09/08/2024 08:50

my DH is very particular about the washing! I do leave him to it but the bedding I do lol
