Dishwasher or washing machine in holiday let?

Hi. We are in the process of converting our annexe into a holiday let. There is one double bedroom and a smaller bedroom with bunk beds. There is space in the kitchen for either a washing machine or a dishwasher. Which would you prefer if you were staying? My husband is saying washing machine, but I am thinking dishwasher. Would like help to decide. Thanks.

YABU - washing machine
YANBU - dishwasher

Washing machine

Washing machine

Washing machine.

No one wants to be washing their clothes in the bath.

Dishwasher

ScottishStottie · 21/02/2021 23:44

100% washing machine

Dishwasher

I’m happy to bring a week’s worth of clothes with us and save laundry for when we are back. A week of washing up isn’t a holiday.

Tankflybosswalkjam · 21/02/2021 23:44

Dishwasher! Who the hell does washing on holiday??

Shamoo · 21/02/2021 23:45

Dishwasher for me. But if you are targeting families with kids, probably a washing machine?

Amummyatlast · 21/02/2021 23:46

We go on lots of self catering holidays. We’ve never had to wash clothes (and we have been in holiday lets with washing machines) but we do use/want a dishwasher if available. If you had a washing machine, would there be space to dry clothes? Would you want them drying clothes on radiators, etc., if there is no outside drying space? That could lead to mildew.

VeniVidiWeeWee · 21/02/2021 23:46

Don't people take enough clothes on holiday to see them through?

PickAChew · 21/02/2021 23:47

Absolutely a washing machine - life saver for a family.

Who the hell does lots of messy cooking in a holiday let? (to paraphrase a pp)

lottiegarbanzo · 21/02/2021 23:47

Dishwasher. For a family holiday, I wouldn't look at a holiday cottage without one.

Washing machines can be useful but if you know there isn't one, you can just take more clothes. You cannot get around needing to wash dishes.

VeniVidiWeeWee · 21/02/2021 23:47

Beaten to it many times!

ManxRhyme · 21/02/2021 23:47

Dishwasher!! Dishes need done daily, easy enough to pack a week's worth of clothes and if you haven't got a dryer the clothes washing is a pain on holiday anyway so best avoided.

This. I will bring clothes with me. But I detest washing up. I have a dishwasher at home. I do not want to be washing up on holiday. Is there no way to compromise and fit both in. Slimline dishwasher, and rejig kitchen unit space (you obviously need less units for a holiday let than a home) to fit in a washing machine too. I’d be quite happy with a slimline DW.
FinallyFluid · 21/02/2021 23:48

I wouldn't even consider it, if it didn't have both.

Not everybody pre-empt kids with a vomiting bug... Never again will I go to a holiday let without a washing machine.Wink
Tankflybosswalkjam · 21/02/2021 23:49

Pick a chew I wouldn’t do ANY messy cooking. But 7 x cups, breakfast bowls, toast plates and wine glasses add up!

Bubblesgun · 21/02/2021 23:50

We rent cottages / villas every year, well pre covid. I need both AND an oven. No way would I book if dont have all 3. Once we had booked a villa for 2 weeks and realised when I arrived there was no oven. We love taking the time to bake and. Ook while on holidays so that was upsetting.
Then we book for 2/3 weeks in a row so def need a washing machine at some point: towels full of sand, etc. And a dryer. Finally, no way am doing wash up on holidays so diswasher is a must.

Hont1986 · 21/02/2021 23:50

Dishwasher would be nice to have but a washing machine is essential. I think it's strange you're even wondering tbh!

pigsDOfly · 21/02/2021 23:50

I agree with your husband.

The set up is for a family with young children from the way you describe it so a washing machine would be more practical.

I have a washing machine in my own kitchen like most people, and wouldn't be without a dishwasher but that's because I cook and eat all my meals in my house.

On holiday, surely most people will eat a lot of their meals out so a dishwasher isn't that important.

However, if they have a young family they aren't going to want to have to go and find a launderette if they need to do some washing.

LimaFoxtrotCharlie · 21/02/2021 23:50

Dishwasher. Easy to take enough clothes to last for a holiday but dishes need doing daily

redglobox · 21/02/2021 23:51

People do laundry on holiday? Whoever knew...

Dishwasher, without a shadow of a doubt.
