To think the new Mr knightly has finally toppled Firth's Darcy from his throne?

I know it's not really new but this weekend I saw the newest version of Emma and, after years and years of Colin Firth's Mr Darcy being my number one Austen inspired crush he has finally been usurped by Johnny Flynn as Knightly. The dance scene and finding out he was really playing the violin are my new coming out of the lake.

I'm not being unreasonable am I?

I think Johnny Flynn knocks Colin Firth out the water.

I think Johnny Flynn knocks Colin Firth out the water.
Hmm, help me out here, I'm trying to get an image in my mind. In this water, out of which CF has been knocked, is he wearing a flowing white shirt?

I know...never thought it would happen but it has. Still love Col, but playing a violin and the most chemistry-drive dance since Maria and Captain Von Trapp did it for me. I also think...gasp... that his longing looks are that little bit more...longing than Colin's. And did I mention the violin?

I’m not sure anything will ever top the iconic image of Colin Firth emerging dripping wet from the lake... BUT.

The dancing scene from the new version of Emma? My god, if that isn’t the sexiest dance scene ever displayed on film...

HarryDresdensLeatherDuster · 21/02/2021 21:42

No.

Just no.

Scrumbleton · 21/02/2021 21:44

Johnny Flynn is fantastic as Knightly

JamesMiddletonsMarshmallows · 21/02/2021 21:52

I preferred Johnny Lee Miller.

Then again I thought the new version of Emma was too modern.

Although the scene where Johnny Flynn is getting all flustered and removes his gloves 🤤

Partly it's the character as well. Darcy is a bit of a dick to be honest for so much of the story.

I’ll just quickly add, I do think that Firth’s depiction of Darcy has the ability to transcend new generations as well.

I teach P+P to teenagers, and have found that they too swoon over Colin Firth dancing with Elizabeth, and Colin Firth emerging from the lake. Which surprised me greatly!

SingToTheSky · 21/02/2021 22:00

I’ve actually never seen pride and prejudice 😳 but re Mr Knightly... no, no YANBU. I’m glad it’s not just me with the dance scene. Blimey.

I suppose I’ll have to watch P&P in order to get a proper feel for the comparison. I do love colin firth though.

Deadringer · 21/02/2021 22:01

Not just no, but NEVER

GingerFoxInAT0phat · 21/02/2021 22:54

Colin Firth just isn’t up my street, and I love a brooder. I think it’s his voice.

grassisjeweled · 21/02/2021 22:56

Why are there no pics of him on this thread?

GingerFoxInAT0phat · 21/02/2021 22:57

The dance scene in the newer War and Peace with James Norton is absolutely beautiful too.

grassisjeweled · 21/02/2021 22:58

The young blond guy?

ShagMeRiggins · 21/02/2021 23:00

and the most chemistry-drive dance since Maria and Captain Von Trapp did it for me.

Apparently Christopher Plummer & Julie Andrews didn’t really get on that well. At all. So...excellent acting.

He’s not even the best Mr Knightly- Jonathan Lee Miller in the BBC adaptation is just perfection
