To think the new Mr knightly has finally toppled Firth's Darcy from his throne?

I know it's not really new but this weekend I saw the newest version of Emma and, after years and years of Colin Firth's Mr Darcy being my number one Austen inspired crush he has finally been usurped by Johnny Flynn as Knightly. The dance scene and finding out he was really playing the violin are my new coming out of the lake.

I'm not being unreasonable am I?

Would it be extremely rude to interject with a Mr. Rochester diversion? Cieran Hinds for me, no shadow of a doubt. So perfectly childish and spoiled.

Always happy for a Mr Rochester diversion! He's tricky though because, let's face it, unlike Austen's men he's a proper areshole who behaves pretty unforgivably. I liked the Fassbender version but fully accept he's really nothing whatsoever like the character in the book even allowing for interpretations, just sexily moody. Toby Jones too jolly and a low rent Hugh Grant ( in that - love him in other stuff). I probably agree with Cieran Hinds being the best but it certainly didn't give me a crush on him!

I thought Johnny was a bit too young :(

can also make him look terribly self-conscious, ruddy and a bit silly. I could very easily see him cast as a red-faced, red-trousered Ukipper roaring 'You have no authority here, Jackie Weaver' at a local council meeting, and he'd probably be excellent...

That's hilarious, such an accurate description though Grin

@GrimDamnFanjo Think he's about 37 so actually the correct age.

I absolutely loved the tv version of Persuasion. Amanda Root was perfect, and Ciaran Hinds was excellent, but I can't say I fancied him at all!
