Help! Washing machine has exploded!

LaBellySausage · 20/02/2021 11:07

So the washing machine has finally packed in and is pissing water everywhere. Bastard. It's been fixed loads of times but think we now need a new one.

I've got a toddler, a grubby husband, and I'm a doctor so need to wash my manky covid encrusted scrubs for work on Monday: urgent replacement needed.

For the AIBU police I'm posting for traffic and no I don't want to post in a washing machine thread.

Recommendations for a washer-drier please. I have actually never bought one before so don't know where to start.

Needs to be able to take a big load. No pun intended.

I say Argos . Pretty convenient , sometimes same day delivery. I have a candy 9kg one. It does the job and wasn’t too pricey

JaninaDuszejko · 20/02/2021 11:09

Find somewhere that does 24h delivery is probably your top prioritythen buy whatever is in your price range.

In your position I'd go on appliances online and see which of their best buys can be delivered tomorrow.

Fridainexile · 20/02/2021 11:10

250 ish and has a nifty fast cycle. You can link it up to an app to check energy consumption (apparently)

Fridainexile · 20/02/2021 11:10

Sorry, missed the dryer bit!!!!

LaBellySausage · 20/02/2021 11:10

Is more expensive always better? We bought a Sony TV 6 years ago and it was rubbish.

Which recommend this one -Bosch WDU28560GB.

AO online do quick delivery

LaBellySausage · 20/02/2021 11:12

(I don't mind paying a lot if it'll not break down every 4 months)

AO.com have got appliances to me next day with a £30 delivery charge when any of my appliances have packed in.

itsgettingwierd · 20/02/2021 11:12

This happened to me a few weeks ago.

I ordered from curry's and got a beko washer dryer. They do next day delivery but I think it's £25. Also will plumb in and remove old one for a cost.

I didn't do next day but got mine within 48 hrs for a 5er.

Total cost for delivery and extras etc was £369

purplecorkheart · 20/02/2021 11:13

Firstly you need to find somewhere that can deliver today and take away your old appliance. They see what ones they sell in your price range and then google to see of there are reviews. They really is no point in us suggesting makes and models if they are not available.

TokyoSushi · 20/02/2021 11:13

OP are you absolutely sure you want a washer dryer? They're invariably rubbish, unless you've come across the Holy grail of a good one in the past?

I fully understand that making things more difficult is not what you require of this thread but I can't let you mistakenly fall into the washer dryer trap! (if you know sonething that I don't then crack on!) Grin

Frouby · 20/02/2021 11:14

AO has always been very reliable with deliveries, argos not so much.

ShaunaTheSheep · 20/02/2021 11:14

AO are reliable, and agree with Bosch. No need to pay extra for fancy programmes.

MaddeningtheUnhelpful · 20/02/2021 11:15

When mine died I replaced with a 10kg Hoover one which is A+++ energy rated. Got it from AO with next day delivery. Pay the £5 a month for a replacement, figure it's worth it for no hassle when this one dies. It's enormous so one load is 2 airers full, or the whole households bedding in one go (2 adults 3 kids) I don't rate washer dryers at all, found them awful. Instead we have a mini dryer for bedding/towels/emergencies and 2 clothes horses with a fan on in the room, it really does dry them so much quicker with the fan. I do live in a new build though which apparently was built to be hotter than a volcano

Scrumbleton · 20/02/2021 11:16

Beko are cheap and good quality

Watto1 · 20/02/2021 11:16

Ao.com are fab in my opinion. Reasonably priced and prompt delivery. I think they will take your old one away too but if they don’t, just leave it outside with a “Please Take” sign on it and it’ll be gone in a flash! Or is that just my area?!

MrsTulipTattsyrup · 20/02/2021 11:16

I’m very happy with my large capacity Whirlpool - it hasn’t been affected by the safety issue which caused the mass recall of the washing machines without the dryers. No point giving you the model number as it’s 8 years old, but the current equivalent is what I’d go for if I had to replace it today. And they’re usually in stock everywhere. I don’t go anywhere other than AO now, for fast and reliable delivery. We had a new fridge during lockdown 1 and their drivers were v good on social distancing etc.

Pizzaandgarlicdip · 20/02/2021 11:17

I highly recommend AO.com. For £50 extra they will do all of the uninstalling of the old one, take it away and install the new one.

However, I’m not sure I recommend the Indesit I just bought from them. Maybe it’s just that I haven’t worked out the right cycles yet but it’s so bloody loud and a basic wash and dry cycle takes 5-6 hours!

Alfiemoon1 · 20/02/2021 11:18

Ao.com or curry’s. Curry’s may do a same day click and collect service if it will fit in your car ours did. Had a washer dryer years ago and it was rubbish not sure if they have improved as I’ve always had separate machines since. Very happy with my Samsung eco bubble washer

mnahmnah · 20/02/2021 11:18

Curry’s delivery is shocking. We’ve had problems in many occasions. Wouldn’t go back.

Ao.com are great.

HalfShrunkMoreToGo · 20/02/2021 11:19

Buy through boots appliances, they use AO.com but you get your boots loyalty points which really add up when you're buying something for several hundred pounds.

Second ao.com. Deliver and install next day and take away old one.
