To think those comparing dog barking to baby noise are off their rockers?

We're humans in a human society whose rights just aren't the same as a dog's. Right?

OP posts:

YABU. They’re both fucking irritating noises. I actually find crying babies MORE annoying, as nature intended

NiceTwin · 19/02/2021 18:44

Oh goodness, a crying baby is just too much. It is the equivalent of finger nails down a blackboard.
Bizarrely I can zone out to a barking dog.

Freddiefox · 19/02/2021 18:45

I not sure it’s a competition to be honest, other people’s noise is rubbish but what can you do.

However when people start complaining about others noise and they themselves aren’t quite then all noise is comparable.

Purplecatshopaholic · 19/02/2021 18:49

Not sure what rights have to do with it. Both fkn annoying sounds.

Sparklesocks · 19/02/2021 18:50

I think noise is noise, I might be more tolerant of a baby crying repeatedly than a dog barking in that I know it can’t be helped, but it doesn’t mean it doesn’t impact you. I used to live next door to a family with a baby who cried solidly for hours at a time in the early hours (thin walled terrace). I absolutely felt for the family and knew the parents were doing everything they could, but it still disturbed my sleep even with earplugs etc.

TheRaccoon · 19/02/2021 18:50

I’m lucky enough to live next door to a 2 year old who has constant meltdowns and a dog who is left outside to bark half the day.

I honestly couldn’t tell you which is worse.

murbblurb · 19/02/2021 18:50

Thing is a baby probably isn't on its own and the parents are trying to deal with the noise.

Fucking furbaby has probably been left alone, so the dickhead owners aren't suffering the racket.

TwunchOfBats · 19/02/2021 18:51

Ah. The old mn hobby of ranking all creatures in a strict value order continues, I see...

Bagelsandbrie · 19/02/2021 18:52

What’s one got to do with the other? They’re both horrible noises. When it’s your own baby you deal with it but if it’s someone else’s it sends you insane.

EL8888 · 19/02/2021 18:53

They are both very annoying. Genuinely not sure which grates on me more

Eckhart · 19/02/2021 18:54

We, in our human society, have chosen to accept dogs, though.

Why do you need to compare these two things, or judge anybody as off their rocker if they don't agree with you? Surely some people will find one more annoying than the other, and some vice versa?

It's a bit like posting to say 'People who like peas are crazy, right?', because you don't like peas.

ClaudiaWankleman · 19/02/2021 18:55

We are all living beings who do have shared basic rights.

Eh? In this case, human babies before dogs.

I struggle to listen to a baby cry. I don't want to hear a dog barking. Both are loud and intrusive noises. Both indicate possible distress.

SheldonesqueIsUnwell · 19/02/2021 18:58

@TwunchOfBats

Indeed.

Drunken teens? Fighting cats? Noisy cars? Revving motorbikes? Banging doors? Arguing harpies?

All annoying. Equally so. Wink

letsghostdance · 19/02/2021 19:05

We're getting a puppy. If the neighbours come to complain I'll enjoy informing them that we're training ours not to bark and ask when they're planning on asking their 6 year old not to scream for hours and hours on end first thing in the morning. Every morning.

Ponoka7 · 19/02/2021 19:15

Children are a direct benefit to society, dogs aren't, I suppose. Although dog ownership can reduce depression, so there is some wider benefits.

With children you don't know what you are going to get. Dogs are more predictable. But people make bad/fashionable choices in terms of the breed they choose and that's what is annoying.

Not many children scream for ten years, but I've known dogs that never settle down.

bloodywhitecat · 19/02/2021 19:18

I have a baby with a neurological injury, when he cries he could strip bark from trees listening to the dog bark is definitely less challenging than listening to him cry.

Whaaat?

My taxes pay far more for your kids than I will ever get back from the system. Happy to do it because I am not an arsehole.

Dogs do bring massive health benefits to owners, and then there are the therapy and working dogs.
With children you don't know what you are going to get? Same with puppies.
Not many children scream for 10 years but I've known dogs that never settle down. Same with neighbours kids - after baby and toddlerhood comes screaming in the morning, loud parties, running around with their friends, then loud teenage years, drunken parties etc.
If I have to hear your kids, you can put up with my dog, who is stopped from barking when she starts because I am not an arsehole. Wish people would do the same with their kids at time, but dont tell them that because I am not an arsehole.

can't say it better than that.
lockdownalli · 19/02/2021 19:29

What do you mean OP?

My baby crying wouldn't annoy me nearly as much as someone else's barking dog.

Someone else's baby crying would annoy me far more than my dog barking.

Someone else's baby vs someone else's dog - honestly I would probably find the baby more annoying

MotherExtraordinaire · 19/02/2021 19:40

Dogs tend to bark when alone in the day or as a result of visitors or toilet break.

Babies can be 247.Even worse if a parent opts to cio or similar.

MatildaTheCat · 19/02/2021 19:45

Surely both can be annoying and both can, to some degree be managed? So you only let your dog bark for a few minutes and wherever possible you shield your neighbours from a screaming baby?

Norwester · 19/02/2021 19:52

If I had to choose, I'd take the dog barking. Both irritating, though.

namechangetheworld · 19/02/2021 19:55

The noise of babies crying upsets me.
The noise of dogs yapping irritates the shite out me.
