We're humans in a human society whose rights just aren't the same as a dog's. Right?

Not so much a drip as a downpour.

Child or animal - both have the right not to be distressed or neglected.

If that is what you are really saying then I’m surprised you have to ask.

YABU. Both are equally annoying and, as owner/parent of either, you have a duty minimise it’s impact on others at all time.
