To think those comparing dog barking to baby noise are off their rockers?

We're humans in a human society whose rights just aren't the same as a dog's. Right?

Dogs barking doesn't bother me. Babies crying doesn't bother me too much. Toddlers and kids tantrumming and screaming annoys the shit out of me. Horses for courses innit.

Bangable · 19/02/2021 21:25

I’d much rather have to listen to my dogs barking than your child screaming 🤷🏻‍♀️

NuniaBeeswax · 19/02/2021 21:34

I'd listen to ten barking dogs over one screaming baby tbh

Cardboardeaux · 19/02/2021 21:36

I think we can tell who the dog owners on this thread are 😂

RoseAndRose · 19/02/2021 21:44

Intrusive noise whatever the cause is hell on the neighbours

And babies crying is the worst because we're programmed to respond to it - something to do with the most primitively parts of the brain reacting.

NeverDropYourMoonCup · 19/02/2021 21:45

Baby crying - we're genetically programmed to find that distressing and to want it to stop.

Dogs barking - we've psychologically programmed ourselves over millennia to find that a cause for alarm (guard dogs, intruder alerts, attacks) and to react until the noise stops.

Both are hardwired into our psyche, so much so that cats (the sneaky fluffy bastards that they are) have learned to change their purring sounds to mimic the cry of an infant to make us get up and feed them.

No need to rank them, they are alarming/annoying/irritating/stressful because that's what they are meant to be.

DazedWifelet · 19/02/2021 21:55

I don't find a baby crying irritating. Perhaps because I'm a mother. My nurturing instinct kicks in. I want to know why the human baby is crying. I don't have the same concerns for a dog. None! That's just me.

Emeraldshamrock · 20/02/2021 01:29

@shoedogpk Then your neighbour is bat shit.
I hope the baby settles down, obviously lots of pooch lovers on here which is unusual it's usually cat lovers. Wink

Sapho47 · 20/02/2021 05:30

@Eckhart

We, in our human society, have chosen to accept dogs, though.

Why do you need to compare these two things, or judge anybody as off their rocker if they don't agree with you? Surely some people will find one more annoying than the other, and some vice versa?

It's a bit like posting to say 'People who like peas are crazy, right?', because you don't like peas.

Because the op has a noisy baby but wants to complain about a noisy dog Grin
shoedogpk · 20/02/2021 09:22

Mine isn't a baby anymore and hasn't been for a while but apparently I have to understand that their dog is like a child to them.

So I have to put up with the barking!

OP posts:
FrostyChocolateMilkshake · 20/02/2021 09:35

Both noises are equally awful and annoying.

peak2021 · 20/02/2021 09:52

They are different, and crying babies are not like that for life, whereas a dog's barking is.

IceCreamAndCandyfloss · 20/02/2021 10:06

Both are irritating and noise is noise regardless of the cause.

If parents are leaving a baby to CIO, then i would find that far more annoying than a dog barking.

WeAllHaveWings · 20/02/2021 10:15

I have to understand that their dog is like a child to them.

Fair enough.

Then they never leave it home alone to bark as you wouldnt leave a child home alone to cry. They never leave it barking in the garden as you would never do that to your baby. Problem solved.

WeAllHaveWings · 20/02/2021 10:18

It's a bit like posting to say 'People who like peas are crazy, right?', because you don't like peas.

Ridiculous comparison . My ndn can eat peas all day long, doesn't affect me so I don't care.

murbblurb · 20/02/2021 10:24

Aha, so this is indeed about a fucking furbaby. You can try the council for a noise complaint. Apparently a pointless dog barking for hours is acceptable noise, though.

It is amazing more chocolate isn't put through letterboxes - although poisoning a dog is an offence but letting it bark for hours isn't neglect and so is ok. I hate dog owners.

Nnameechanged · 20/02/2021 10:25

We aren't attached to neighbours so don't really get noise from them, but I guess I'd find a baby crying more annoying, although I also understand it isn't their fault so wouldn't be on the warpath about it.
As a pp said, though, I would feel differently about a baby being left to CIO.

MrMeSeeks · 20/02/2021 10:31

Think you may have got it back then op.
Babies/children screaming send me into a full melt down, it really drives to distraction.
Dog barking not so much.
Oh and no, i’m NOT a dog owner.

Think before you complain maybe you should see whether you are perfect!
IF you’re child is not a baby but still screaming and causing your neighbours distress and they've never said anything cut them some slack.

We’re never allowed to say if kids noise is causing distress even if its relentless, when you’re in your own home you can’t escape!

MrMeSeeks · 20/02/2021 10:33

It is amazing more chocolate isn't put through letterboxes - although poisoning a dog is an offence but letting it bark for hours isn't neglect and so is ok. I hate dog owners.

Maybe because most people aren’t fucking crazy? What a vile post.
Truly sickens me some people in this world.

shoedogpk · 20/02/2021 10:36

The dog barked all day yesterday, another neighbour texted me saying it was driving her insane so I know it's not just affecting me.

The owners of the barking dog said I needed to be more understanding because the dog is like a child to them.

We have neighbours on the other side that have children - that's just normal living noise. Not sustained barking from a distressed, neglected animal.

Children change as they get older, dogs generally bark all their lives if not dealt with properly.

I don't believe people have the right to have a barking dog, but I do believe people have the right to have children. In my mind there is a distinction.

OP posts:
lavenderlou · 20/02/2021 10:36

Both are annoying but dogs can be trained, babies can't. Most parents are also frustrated by baby crying noise and will do everything they can to stop it. Also, babies grow up and stop crying so much. Some dogs never grow out of barking.

As for dog owners who like to let their dogs out in the garden for a wee and a good bark at 6am 😡.

89redballoons · 20/02/2021 10:39

Both are annoying, especially if it's not your baby or dog.

I have a toddler who rarely gets through a night without some sort of crying or shouting noise. Next door have a dog who rarely gets through without barking at something outside. We have a kind of gentleman's agreement that we are both doing our best Grin

The baby doesn't mind the dog barking or vice versa but sometimes a siren outside, or fireworks, can set them both off.

shoedogpk · 20/02/2021 10:41

I wouldn't necessarily have an issue with random barking for a reason, like someone knocking on their door etc.

I'm talking about a dog that's been left alone to bark all day long.

OP posts:
89redballoons · 20/02/2021 10:45

Well yes, that is different if the dog is actually being neglected. You wouldn't leave a baby alone to cry all day long and expect the neighbours not to say anything, would you?

NuniaBeeswax · 20/02/2021 12:39

" don't believe people have the right to have a barking dog, but I do believe people have the right to have children. In my mind there is a distinction."

Nobody has a "right" to have either.
