To think those comparing dog barking to baby noise are off their rockers?

We're humans in a human society whose rights just aren't the same as a dog's. Right?

A crying child is more annoying as there are many more of them than dogs, and the parents never seem to have any idea of how to shut their children up.

BashfulClam · 19/02/2021 19:57

Crying babies set my teeth on edge, dogs barking doesn’t. You be are meant to have a reaction to a child’s cry.

AnnaSW1 · 19/02/2021 19:58

A barking dog would drive me mad

Notanotherhun · 19/02/2021 19:59

Dogs are worse than babies. Especially when just left to bark... and bark.... and bark. I feel so sorry for them as it must be s* to have ended up so bored/agitated/stressed that they end up barking incessantly. Appreciate not all dogs like this but watching documentaries where dogs left at home were filmed really upset me. Hence, barking is worse.

KrisAkabusi · 19/02/2021 20:05

I have no idea what point you're trying to make, but both dogs barking and babies crying can be really annoying. I can't see what human rights have to do with that.

Mreggsworth · 19/02/2021 20:06

Yeah I dont get the comparison.

Sat in a restaurant or train and hearing a baby cry is annoying. But it doesnt make me think they dont have a 'right' to be there, it's just objectively an annoying noise. Just like a neighbour mowing a lawn, an annoying noise , but I don't have a problem with it. Dogs fall under the same rule, yes some dogs bark a lot and it can be irritating, but those dogs have a right to live and people are allowed to own dogs.

Annabell80 · 19/02/2021 20:11

Dogs can be trained not to bark but unfortunately babies can't be trained not to cry. As a baby can't help crying I find dogs barking more annoying.
An older child is probably more annoying than a dog though.

SplendidSuns1000 · 19/02/2021 20:13

The issue is that so many parents of dogs get so over protective of their 'fur babies' that you can't ever have a serious conversation about noise disturbances. Baby and children noise I absolutely have no problem with, dogs are just dicks.

Sparrowfeeder · 19/02/2021 20:16

I don’t agree. I am sick of most humans but my dog is wonderful. She is better than most people.

Emeraldshamrock · 19/02/2021 20:17

Both are equally irritating unless they're your own. Tbf I'd have a lot more sympathy and understanding towards a neighbour with a crying baby over a barking dog.

Sparrowfeeder · 19/02/2021 20:17

Both are unable to help the noise they make though, and must be treated with compassion and understanding. Gentle training works over time for both. I don’t really see the difference tbh.

SimonJT · 19/02/2021 20:17

They’re both irritating, but at least dogs are cute, babies look like angry old men.

FrumpyDumpyDragon · 19/02/2021 20:18

Someone's humanity doesn't render them less annoying than an animal. People are more annoying than animals, on average.

I think people are generally more accepting of baby noise than barking dogs, even though a baby's cry is designed by nature to be almost unbearable for human ears.

Emeraldshamrock · 19/02/2021 20:18

Did you complain about a neighbours dog and they then complained about your baby? If this is the case there is no comparison

FuckyouCovid21 · 19/02/2021 20:22

Hate the sound of crying babies, it's torture and why I chose not to have kid, mum's dog is on a par with it, yappy little fucker. My dog on the other hand has a lovely deep bark which I don't mind one bit

Dentistlakes · 19/02/2021 20:23

Owners should train their pets not to bark. To many simply ignore their animal and expect their neighbours to suck it up. Of course dogs bark and if I can hear the owner making an effort to stop it, then i don’t mind as much. It’s the owners who don’t give a shit about the impact on those living around them that I dislike. Same goes for owners who leave bags of their pets excrement hanging in trees or at the side of paths. Your dog, your shit, you carry it. Don’t dump it for other people to see/stand in, with the excuse you’re ‘going to collect it later’.

Crying babies although grating are hard to stop and I have the utmost sympathy for their parents. As hard as it is for me to listen to, it’s 100 times harder for them.

Mine cries because his brain is irritated by his brain injury, if you can "shut him up" then come teach me how.
SmokedDuck · 19/02/2021 20:32

I read the OP as suggesting that normal dogs are annoying in built up areas and so are problematic, whereas the normal noise of children has to be accepted.

I think there is some truth to that - children are people and the fact that someone finds their reasonable playing annoying needs to move to a far away place.

Dogs are not completely comparable. A problem dog can be rehomed or in extreme cases I suppose destroyed (not that I think that seems a good solution,) whereas a child is simply not going to be considered in that way at all.

However I would say normal dogs will bark sometimes and if you live in a built up area, you will sometimes here them. Living in towns and cities means that you have to put up with the normal sounds and sights of life, like it or not.

Cardboardeaux · 19/02/2021 21:03

A crying baby won't be a baby forever, but an annoying yappy dog will always be yappy and annoying.

alltoomuchrightnow · 19/02/2021 21:11

Dog barking will usually concern me as to its wellbeing and if it's been left all day
Baby just irritating (if goes on for too long)

I hope you were a perfect silent DC. They're little people crying is the only method of communication they have when unsettled, a crying baby is an unhappy baby. You're a bit of a meany.

Yes.

WeAllHaveWings · 19/02/2021 21:18

Baby noise is understandable, that's how babies communicate. Frequent baby noise is more distressing than annoying,

Excessive dog barking is mostly avoidable and therefore annoying as it is usually due to owner neglect or laziness. If your dog barks when left alone don't leave it home alone. If your dog barks in your garden go out with it to stop it or don't let it out.

And what? A dog is capable of just letting their owner know what's bothering them? Thought not, barking is a dogs only method of communication.

A baby or child making noise is far more irritating. And incessant. I check regularly with my neighbours whether my dc are bothering them and make sure to tell them just to shout up if it's too much, their noise drives me nuts and I chose to have them. The dog a few doors down barks occasionally but I'd take that over my 5 year olds daily screaming fits or anyone else's offsprings screeching.

Freddiefox · 19/02/2021 21:20

@Cardboardeaux

A crying baby won't be a baby forever, but an annoying yappy dog will always be yappy and annoying.
But they turn into children , who shout, whine and moan, they then turn into teenagers who make even more noise. Family life is noisy, but that includes pets
