To be triggered by the sight and sound of Nicola Sturgeon

Since lockdown started I have found that it creates a feeling of dread and anxiety in me every time I hear her voice or see a photo of Nicola Sturgeon or watch her on TV. Same with Boris to an extent, but less so due to Scottish restrictions being more relevant to me. I don’t think I’ll ever be able to hear her speak or see her without these horrible feelings coming back: feeling of bleakness and worry about what she’s going to say next. I think I’ve just come to associate her voice and face with bad news. There’s also part of me that has a sense she’s enjoying the level of control she has over the nation. I just don’t think I’ll ever be able to listen to her again without being transported back to these horrible times. I know in my rational mind she’s just doing her job, but I still feel a strong aversion due to the messages she’s delivering

I was thinking this today. I don't get how Scotland can gain independence/rejoin the EU and have a quarantine period on all arrivals from all countries.

IheartJKR · 16/02/2021 21:53

@PersonaNonGarter

Hear hear 👏 👏 👏

Just for the record... @Mistlewoeandwhine my whole life’s work has been and will continue to be about supporting women.

JerichoGirl · 16/02/2021 21:55

@Mistlewoeandwhine

And I suspect that some of the hatred directed towards her is because a) she’s female b) she’s Scottish and not grovelling in supplication at the feet of the English
Oh yes, the misogyny is strong
MintChocAddict · 16/02/2021 22:06

I can cope with Nicola but I just wish Jason Leitch didn't always look like he's enjoying himself quite so much Wink A cheery upbeat delivery for every piece of terrible news. Can he not just look a bit pissed off like the rest of us? Hmm

Zerrin13 · 16/02/2021 22:12

She doesn't muck around does Nicky.

ResIpsaLoquiturInterAlia · 16/02/2021 22:22

I am in London and all I see and hear when she is doing her preaching is constant nagging and not particularly authoritative but loves her captured audience. She seems to be on a power trip and not terribly cooperative with the rest of the UK in any coordinated joined up proactive Covid mitigation strategy. Sometimes she seems to essentially try her upmost to upstage Boris and telling who can and can't entry "her territory" including the UK Heads above her rank etc. Is she loved in Scotland by all Scots there? We down in London don't know enough about her apart from the various political sex scandals within her party etc and those from Scotland including herself who broke the rules Cummings style etc etc. Is there another better Scottish leader?

Cismyfatarse · 16/02/2021 22:23

She is pretty corrupt and the whole Salmond thing stinks like last week's fish. And, like fish, it is rotting from the head down.

She had meetings that weren't meetings because she forget / they weren't official / the dog ate her homework. She has mis-led Holyrood (ie told lies to cover her arse).

And education is rock bottom.

And the vaccine roll out was slow and badly organised. The quarantine thing is just about being different and so many policies and pronouncements are spin and style over substance.

And don't get me started on hospitals / ferries / Rangers / bifab.

We have low numbers where I am but, hey, maybe I will be allowed to leave the immediate area in 2-3 months because NS loves the power she has given herself over us all.

And she is in thrall to the trans gender bollocks activists. Her Justice secretary won't agree there are 2 sexes and the Minister for Older people has been MIA (Or missing in inaction) for a year in spite of the scandal in care homes and the high death rate amongst the elderly.

@Loopyloututu

If you don't agree with her politics, that's fine, but please can we stop with the personal comments about appearance?

KeepWashingThoseHands · 16/02/2021 22:28

I just hear Janey Godley now :)

Anycrispsleft · 16/02/2021 22:33

I've met her, about 20 odd years ago. She was a right nippy sweetie!

Stupid thread of the day award goes to:

StoneofDestiny · 16/02/2021 23:20

Wow - she is delivering the message she needs to in a more coherent way than Johnson. The fact she gets her message out ahead of Johnson doesn't mean she is undermining him, it means she has taken action before him.

As for lying deceitful behaviour - she certainly couldn't beat Johnson - he tops the league in that. He's a thug, a liar, and an egomaniac shagaholic.

Boris has repeatedly not discussed issues around coronavirus with the devolved nations. And his management of the crisis is dire. Always too little ,too late. Giving millions of taxpayers money to a track and trace system unfit for purpose by run by a crony if his, and handing out contracts for ppe to firms who had no idea what they were doing. Why should she cooperate with that shambles . And why is is her not co-operating rather than Boris.

I know many people irl who support her but on mumsnet there is an attitude of hatred that is claimed to representative of Scotland. That’s not my impression.

And for folk talking about the vaccine programme. We are the same as England. Whatsthepriblem

Norwaydidnthappen · 17/02/2021 00:05

I like her but it’s easy for me to say that because I’m not Scottish. DH’s Scottish colleagues despise her and his American ones hated Obama too who I also always liked so 🤷🏻‍♀️.

I’d take Sturgeon over Bojo any day.

Thymeout · 17/02/2021 00:13

From what I heard, she took off her mask having left a wake and then forgot to put it on again when she nipped inside again to have a brief word with someone she hadn't previously noticed.

Hardly in the same league as Cummings. OrJohnson going out of his way to shake hands with Covid patients. Not to mention, this time last year, taking two weeks off in his country retreat, missing Cobra meetings, because he was sorting out the financials of his divorce and thinking of some way to tell his children that his girlfriend was pregnant.

RootyT00t · 17/02/2021 00:14

YABU to use the word triggered and convince people who will skim tread that this is a genuine fear and gain sympathy , then write this

There’s also part of me that has a sense she’s enjoying the level of control she has over the nation.

Of course she's bloody not.

Mmm.

And the English government are squeaky clean, are they?

SmokedDuck · 17/02/2021 00:18

@Thymeout

I like her. Much better than the lying toe-rag we've got. Boris has only himself to blame if he's always playing catch-up with the devolved nations. They listen to the science and take action. He dithers and dallies and people die while he makes up his mind. Too little, too late.
They listen to the science that pleases them, and not that which doesn't.

Which is fine, really, the job is to make decisions like that. But passing it off as "listening to the science" is what is annoying.

RedcurrantPuff · 17/02/2021 00:20

She’s a very divisive figure

I am much happier since I stopped watching the daily briefing. Why she needs these daily even now is beyond me. She has fuck all to say most days and takes ages to get to the point.

Dontstepinthecowpat · 17/02/2021 00:21

I have to turn off the radio/change tv channel every time I see or hear Jason Leitch.

I wish NS would just get to the point when it comes to the bigger announcements. My nerves are in shreds waiting to hear what’s been decided by she precludes each one with 20 mins of other info.

SmokedDuck · 17/02/2021 00:22

And the English government are squeaky clean, are they?

Not to mention the government of China!

How could anyone complain so long as there are other bad political leaders elsewhere?

RootyT00t · 17/02/2021 00:24

Now now. Don't be sneaky duck. My point is, Nicola is getting quite a personal bashing for minor wrongdoings that we don't know for fact, but the government in London do it daily.
