Pancake day - what's the normal amount of pancakes to eat??

Having a bit of a debate. Family think 6-8 is normal. I have friends who are done after two.

How many do you typically put away??? Grin (hint: make me feel better about the fifth one I'm about to have...!)

Am talking about crepes btw.

@TwoleftUggs

My record was 13 one year. Proper sized ones too. I think I was pg at the time and pancakes were my thing! This year I had 3 smallish banana & oat milk ones at lunch and then 5 proper ones tonight. Pancake day is my favourite day of the year.
Would you mind if I asked what oat milk recipe you use? Does the oat milk negatively affect the final result? I usually use milk alternatives but when doing pancakes am worried about compromising on taste and texture

2 each here :)

waitingforautumn · 16/02/2021 20:17

@Okokokbear

How big are the pancakes people eat though? I think that makes a difference.

I've has 2 with cheese and onion. The onion is fried.
Then a sweet one with Nutella and some crushed crispy biscuit things.

The cheese and onion sounds fab!

We DD and I had 4 each. DH ate 2.

waitingforautumn · 16/02/2021 20:18

@OcelotPanda

I have not had enough. Made a double batch of batter but clearly the original recipe was written by a competitive undereater. So sad. So tempted to make more.
This is the worst kind of recipe. Rate one star. Leave a review. Warn the others.

4 here - 2 savoury and 2 sweet. DD doesn’t eat dairy and made hers with almond milk.

@FitterHappierMoreProductive

People are describing an opportunity to enjoy a moment of celebration with their families - a rare one in the last 12 months. That’s what eating pancakes has got to do with it. But then you know that, you’re just being obtuse.
I agree ☺️

I have to get off this thread because I really, really want pancakes now. Just not cooked ruined by me. They all sound really delicious...

Floobydo · 16/02/2021 20:20

We’ve had pancakes for every meal here today - fluffy American style for breakfast (4 small ones each) with fruit & maple syrup; 2 large crepes for lunch, 1 with smoked salmon & cheese the second lemon & sugar; then a free-for-all for supper. DC liked the look of the Percy pig ones but after one bite declared them yuk so ended up with Nutella crepes & DH & I decided we were done with pancakes so had something completely different.

Think that will do us for the year 🤣

HeelsHandbagPerfumeCoffee · 16/02/2021 20:21

Well I’m back from work someone brought in pancakes , we filled our boots
Butter
Toffee sauce
Mmm.

waitingforautumn · 16/02/2021 20:21

@DrCoconut

2. But with fruit, Nutella and squirty cream Grin I genuinely can't eat more at the moment because my digestive system is shot due to my ongoing health issues. I'm on a little (ish!) and often regime while I hopefully recover.
Wishing you a swift recovery x

I made them for breakfast. DS (6) had 3, 9 yo DD had 4. I didn't have any as I low-carb.

waitingforautumn · 16/02/2021 20:22

@LApprentiSorcier

3 stone overweight so none for me this year Sad. I would say 2 or 3 normally, depending on size and thickness. Mine come out more like large drop scones than pancakes because I don't have the knack with them.
You deserve a treat too! Xxx

May have to do some fieldwork around this...

@Happycat1212

I can’t believe how many people eat! I’ve had 3 and felt like a pig Blush
I just sucked a lemon and felt grateful.
sansou · 16/02/2021 20:25

2 thin crepes each for brunch with maple syrup, peanut butter & nutella.

hansgrueber · 16/02/2021 20:26

I've had none, is there a medal?

I actually forgot; in the past I've made well-stuffed seafood pancakes, often followed by ones with ice cream and hot chocolate sauce. I'm surprised that so many like the American style, I find them far too stodgy.

roastpotatoesss · 16/02/2021 20:26

I had 3 very thin ones with lemon and sugar, would have been 4 but I lost one to the pancake flip gods Sad I have them in lieu of dinner.

It was my first year making vegan ones and I was very impressed with how they turned out!

HeelsHandbagPerfumeCoffee · 16/02/2021 20:27

3?well I suggest you go on a purge. Inhale mineral water,and sook a lemon for a month
I genuinely don’t know how any woman comes back from that reprehensible behaviour

sbhydrogen · 16/02/2021 20:27

I think I've eaten five tonight. All sweet 🤣 I could have eaten more but DH didn't make enough batter 😜

Ninkanink · 16/02/2021 20:27

DH had four crepes today for afternoon tea, with orange honey. I didn’t have any because I’m low carbing and chose not to indulge, but if I had decided to have some I would also have had four. I like mine with raspberry jam, or lemon and sugar. Or less often, chocolate spread and vanilla ice cream.

If I had an æbleskiver pan I would have made those, and then I definitely would have indulged! I’d probably have had five or six, just because they’re so good.

hansgrueber · 16/02/2021 20:28

@waitingforautumn if you like orange juice on your pancakes have you tried grand marnier?

Isn't that crepe suzette? I recall having those in the 70s, cooked at the table on a little paraffin stove.

Try making slightly thicker ones to start with, maybe in a smaller pan (easier to toss). And don't expect anything of the first one.
makingitupaswegoon · 16/02/2021 20:30

DS age 7 has just eaten 5 or 6 - I lost count
