Pancake day - what's the normal amount of pancakes to eat??

Having a bit of a debate. Family think 6-8 is normal. I have friends who are done after two.

How many do you typically put away??? Grin (hint: make me feel better about the fifth one I'm about to have...!)

Am talking about crepes btw.

Modern dinner plates are a lot bigger than even 20 years ago.
My parents have some medium sized plates, halfway between a modern dinner plate and a side plate, which they use for lunches (and dinners for my children when they are allowed to visit) and they are probably old dinner plate sized, and more than sufficient. The only advantage of bigger plates is it's easier for the children to cut their food up.

WatchWatch · 17/02/2021 11:48

It totally depends on whether you count the 5 'tester' ones I make before the real ones Grin

PurpleDaisies · 17/02/2021 11:52

@MsTSwift

Our dinner plates are enormous I was throwing food away so started using the smaller plates and it stuck. We are all perfectly normal sized ! Definitely think portions have got bigger over the years
How big are your side plates?
Justgorgeous · 17/02/2021 12:11

I must admit as an adult I now have a smaller plate as I put on weight soooooo easily. I try and eat half of what my husband eats and I’m finding it so good for me as I’m just naturally greedy !

Newnamefor2021 · 17/02/2021 12:16

I ate 2, my husband ate 8, kids ate 2-3.

Itstheprinciple · 17/02/2021 12:22

I'm doing afternoon tea today for my mum (bubble) and I got out my nan's tea service to serve it on. I just commented to DH how it's no wonder people were thinner years ago as the plates are so small.

TomorrowIsAnotherDae · 17/02/2021 12:43

Have to admit I do use a 9” plate for meals, not sure if that’s teeny or not, but it didn’t stop me getting obese.

My pancakes were also 9” diameter. I’m having leftover pancakes for tea 😁 I haven’t given anything up for Lent.

Nohomemadecandles · 17/02/2021 12:45

They used to have a dipped middle bit for food. And a clearer lip. Now they're all plate.

Backtoreality1 · 17/02/2021 12:52

2 for main meal....with lemon juice and sugar

PurpleDaisies · 17/02/2021 12:58

Yesterday’s total was four each. One practice pancake and three baked in a savoury dish
I am adding another two-one stuffed with cheesy garlic mushrooms and one classic lemon and sugar that I was too full for yesterday.

LucilleTheVampireBat · 17/02/2021 13:05

I’ll go- I have one, traditional of course, cooked in a tiny frying pan that came with the toy kitchen. But it’s an awful amount of sugar so I actually try and eek it out to the following pancake day next year, otherwise I will put myself at risk of being a size 10 and have diabetes

You fat bastard. I will be eating leftovers from my one pancake for weeks. Pancake stew, pancake sandwiches, fucking yummers.

BikeRunSki · 17/02/2021 13:07

Ds(12) had 4
Dh a d dd(9) had 3 each
I had 2

My neighbour’s DSS and DH had 20 each! That’s a lot of eggs!

I totally agree. DM has her parents 1940s/50s crockery. It’s tiny stacked up in the cupboard with all her modern stuff.
AnExcellentWalker · 17/02/2021 13:13

I have my pancakes with fresh fruit & a dollop of cream. I usually have 2.

On your own? Fat bitch. Your 8 feet tall rugby playing sons and your husband working a hard physical job should be eating those left overs. YOU don't need the calories, tubby.

Aprilx · 17/02/2021 13:48

We shared the first one (obviously the failed attempt) and had it with lemon and sugar. Then we both had a successful savoury one for lunch, I had a final one with sugar and lemon again mid afternoon. So I had 2.5 and DH had 1.5.

Livinghereisok · 17/02/2021 13:53

How can people be bothered to stand around cooking so many in one go (some people on here must have made 20+ for a family of 4, that's at least 45 mins of frying pan vine!)

I love pancakes but it's such a faff making one at a time. By the time DD had eaten her first I hadn't even finished cooking the second one Shock

ThenCatoJumpedOut · 17/02/2021 14:09

Yes but you can use multiple pans (I use 3 Grin)

I cook from scratch every day, and usually spend an hour or more standing in the kitchen. Pancakes take about the same time as a normal meal, but it's far more pleasant and relaxing with everyone sitting around chatting and eating at the same time as cooking!
naptune · 17/02/2021 15:22

About 5 I’d say

strawberriesatmypicnic · 17/02/2021 16:07

2-3 usually. We have not had any this year though.

happymummy12345 · 17/02/2021 16:34

@justcannotwithyou the point is I don't want to eat both. Why would I? I'm asking you politely to stop being so childish in your comment. You sound like you need to grow up

HeyDemonsItsYaGirl · 17/02/2021 16:40

I had a whole one, which is know is terribly gluttonous. In my defence I did leave out the flour, egg, milk, and butter, and I steamed it instead of fried it.

But I'm teeny tiny as all good women are, so to make up for the sin I won't eat for two weeks.

Serenity45 · 17/02/2021 16:48

DH and I no kids...5 each as was our main meal (me 3 lemon and sugar 2 Nutella, DH 2 lemon and sugar, one banana and maple syrup and 2 Nutella banana and peanut butter). Smallish frying pan and we still have 3 leftover as DH made gallons of batter while I was on a phone call.

JustDanceAddict · 17/02/2021 16:54

4 is good!!
