to put my 18 month old to bed at 7pm?

I don’t think I’m BU, but friends and in laws all seem to think I’m putting my 18 month old to bed way too earlyHmm The constant little comments are just getting irritating now.

Is this too early for an 18 month old or just about right?

My DS15 went to bed at 7pm until he was about 8 lol

CoffeeWithMyOxygen · 14/02/2021 22:39

My 20 month old likes to go to bed at about 5pm, you’re fine!

Megan2018 · 14/02/2021 22:40

We aim for around 7, it’s usually 7.30-8 before she’s asleep (17 months). It’s only too early if it means you are up at the crack of dawn. DD sleeps around 12hrs so 7.30-7.30 is good for us.

Mercedes519 · 14/02/2021 22:41

Yep 7pm. We had bath, milk and then In The Night Garden which finishes at 6.50pm.

The real question here is why you are listening to anyone else apart from what YOU want to do. And why the fuck do they care what time you put YOUR child to bed?

AnneLovesGilbert · 14/02/2021 22:41

What time does he wake up and are you happy with his schedule? You know him better than they do, stick with whatever works for you guys Smile

AmIBeingTwatty · 14/02/2021 22:42

My 18 month old has always gone to bed at 6pm. He sleeps through until 6.30ish. He gets very grumpy if it goes past 6. Do what is best for your child and ignore everyone else’s opinions!

mummyh2016 · 14/02/2021 22:43

My 3 year old goes to bed at 7, it's definitely not too early!

CreamFirstThenJamOnTop · 14/02/2021 22:43

Yanbu.
My 20 month old goes up between 6.30 and 6.45 ish and is asleep by 7.15

If it was much later he’d be overtired, grumpy and struggle to settle.

DD is 5 and goes up at 7.15 - 7.30 and asleep by 8.

What time are they proposing?? 7pm is a pretty standard time for lots of kids.

MumUndone · 14/02/2021 22:44

Why is that way too early? For who?

solicitoring · 14/02/2021 22:45

Don't all babies / toddlers go to sleep at 7pm? I thought that was what everyone did!

user2021 · 14/02/2021 22:46

My 3yo and 2yo go to bed at 7 and have done since a few months old.

I thought all small children go to bed around 7 Confused

Bogfrog · 14/02/2021 22:46

My 5 year old is lights out by half 7. Sounds perfect!

HappyasLaura · 14/02/2021 22:46

We head upstairs with my 7 year old at around 7pm.

YouBoggleMyMind · 14/02/2021 22:46

DS age 3 goes to bed at 6:30ish on nursery nights and 7-7:30 every other night. 7pm is fine for your 18m old. Do what works for you!

No. Mine is never down that early but she’s often not awake till 8 which works better for me.

Too early? That’s standard baby bedtime isn’t it? My 18 month old is often asleep by then because he likes an “early” bedtime (upstairs between 6.30-6.45 most nights and a quick bedtime routine) but DS1 had and still has a 7pm bedtime (although it’s pretty loose now at 6yo, and is more 7.20-8pm unless he really needs an early night).

Aria2015 · 14/02/2021 22:48

My 5 year old goes to bed at 6.30pm on week days! Children need lots of sleep! We relax it at weekends and school holidays but he's older and can handle that (plus he sleeps in to compensate!). 7pm is perfectly reasonable imo!

PivotPivotPivottt · 14/02/2021 22:49

My 3 year old was in bed for 6pm, some nights earlier from 12 weeks old up until a couple of months ago. I'm hoping to get back to that bedtime when she's back at nursery!

EachBleachBlairTrump · 14/02/2021 22:49

DS goes to bed around 8, which means he wakes around 7:30 and naps around 1:30 which fits our schedule. We often don't get back from work until six or just after so means we get to spend time with him in the evening , this feels important because several times s week one of us won't finish work until after he's asleep. You do what suits your family.

noblegreenk · 14/02/2021 22:50

Mine went to bed at 7pm at that age and would sleep until 8.30am with a 2-3hr nap after lunch. She's now 2.5yrs and still goes to bed at 7pm but now wakes at 7am with a 1.5hrs nap. If your child is sleeping well, is content and their sleep schedule suits you then it's no one else's business.

tenlittlecygnets · 14/02/2021 22:51

Why are so many people commenting??

7 p.m. is totally normal. Both my kids went to bed at 7 until they were about 8...

Aimee1987 · 14/02/2021 22:51

DS is 14 months is asleep between half 6 and 7 depending on how tired he is. If I leave him any later he struggles to settle and then wakes up repeatedly throughout the night.
The 8 year old is in his room for 7.30 to read then lights out at 8.
Sounds pretty standard for kids.
If your routine is working I wont be taking any notice of anyone else

Hankunamatata · 14/02/2021 22:51

I used to struggle to keep mine awake for 7pm bedtime. Sometimes failed and it was 5.30/6 BUT mine are very early risers

Chocolatecake29 · 14/02/2021 22:51

Both of mine are usually down between 7-7.30 (nearly 4y and 20m)
I need my evenings for downtime!!
