i'm sure they've been refreshing AIBU just waiting to see when your message of congratulations would appear.

....jesus.

TheKeatingFive · 16/02/2021 08:49

Oprah. Is she like the US's Jeremy Kyle?

Erm, no.

Hugoslavia · 16/02/2021 09:04

I feel as though she is a tad tone deaf. She announced how terrible her miscarriage was on 25th November, knowing that she was already pregnant again with her second child. I appreciate that a miscarriage is extremely hard, but I feel as though she made it about her, rather than women generally. I think that the fact that she fell pregnant again so quickly and knew that she was able to is a bit insensitive to other women who are struggling with infertility so much.

As for Oprah.... Well, I didn't see that coming!

AngeloMysterioso · 16/02/2021 09:40

Why is this in AIBU?

They are always tone deaf, though. It's like they've unwittingly and obliviously made it their USP. They announced their first pregnancy at Eugenie's wedding, then made it public a day or so later. Now they choose to announce the second pregnancy days after Eugenie had her baby. If Eugenie was on Mumsnet she'd be asking for views on AIBU about family members constantly stealing her thunder! Or if Meghan was on here saying she planned to announce her pregnancy at her cousin-in-law's wedding and her second a day or two after the birth of same cousin's first baby no doubt she'd get many replies telling her to just wait a while and let them have their day in the sun.
SleepingStandingUp · 16/02/2021 10:08

@cicelyella

The lying on the ground in the wood while pregnant is a bit strange. I'd feel vulnerable like that...
Vulnerable to what? I doubt they're on the middle of a public park where something might pounce on her
GetOffYourHighHorse · 16/02/2021 10:08

'Oprah. Is she like the US's Jeremy Kyle?'

'Erm, no.'

Oh right, not Jerry Springer style more chat show like Graham Norton and Ellen DeGeneres? I don’t know if I've never seen an Oprah show. It'll be lovely for them to discuss their lovely news and happiness. I bet the RF can't wait.

What thunder are they stealing tho? E had her baby, it was announced, her Uncle and Step Aunt would have sent congratulations but it's just another great step nephew. The news of a new grandchild is totally different and won't have stopped them congratulating or being happy for E,J or their parents.
E and Js parents and siblings will be happy enough for H and M but it's hardly going to distract them what Master B. The rest of the family will be happy for both.

So it's down to the press and public. Do we think E is crying at home because she's not front page news for a week and now everyone is talking about Harry's baby and not hers?? Do you as the public care less now about E than you would if H&M hadn't announced?

I don't get who is meant to care , who's caring matters, who will now care less?

RickiTarr · 16/02/2021 10:19

@bluewanda

90 minute Oprah interview with Harry and Meghan set to air on 7th March. Should be interesting!
I bet they didn’t clear that with the palace. I can’t really understand what’s in it for them either if they want privacy. Unless it’s just to plug their commercial ventures? Fergie is the only other royal to have done Oprah, isn’t she?

At least the royals are providing some free entertainment at the moment, and it’s all hastening the end of the monarchy. Smile

No, not like that either.
TheKeatingFive · 16/02/2021 10:29

It’s all utter nonsense, frankly.

GetOffYourHighHorse · 16/02/2021 10:31

'bet they didn’t clear that with the palace. I can’t really understand what’s in it for them either if they want privacy.'

I think it's interesting that even though it has already been recorded they only announce it after the court case had ended.

I can understand they want privacy and control over what information they share. It is the fact they put themselves forward like this then complain about the scrutiny it generates. Everyone had moved on and yet they're digging up the whole megxit crap. Why not just enjoy their lovely happiness and carry on with their volunteering roles. Why continue to grind the axe?!

derxa · 16/02/2021 10:35

Fergie is the only other royal to have done Oprah, isn’t she? Fergie's made a fool of herself for years. I don't care who says what to whom.
But to depict Harry and Meghan as two poor wee souls whose only choice is to speak to Oprah Winfrey is a bit laughable. Still it's all good entertainment.

Roussette · 16/02/2021 10:36

All this 'stealing Eugenie's thunder' crap 😂🤣
Eugenie hasn't even bothered to let anyone know what they are going to call their baby, imagine if that was H&M, they'd be tarred and feathered!

Eugenie won't care a jot and if you're going to go down that route, any comments on Zara's announcement she was pregnant just two weeks after MM said she'd had a miscarriage?

Oh, and Fergie has done more than one Oprah interview spilling her guts about life as a Royal and Diana

Let's be fair...

I think we are all still in the dark about what their real game plan is @GetOffYourHighHorse Money is part of it, for sure but I think they will surprise us once or twice still.

They got married in a big royal wedding and accepted a dukedom and we all vaguely assumed they would live here and be working royals; Patronise things, unveil things, open things. They never intended to.

I know the Daily Mail did that dog whistle racism but I don’t believe that was enough to make her run. She is a tough, intelligent woman, there are plenty of tough intelligent BAME women in London who would have supported her and it’s not like the USA is a racism-free sanctuary.

I was very heavily pregnant when Diana died, sitting around on maternity leave and watching it all like a weird dream. This extended Lockdown/Megxit saga has the same feeling to me but much, much longer.

You have to hand it to MM for being an interesting character.

GetOffYourHighHorse · 16/02/2021 10:42

Why can they not see they are doing to their family exactly what they complain about people doing to them. One sided stories. I hope they say honestly 'well, we couldn't do things how we wanted so thought it would be better to leave' instead of playing victims, saying no one asked if they were ok.

Huh? No I meant it’s a bold choice. Fergie did it in her “couldn’t give a fuck” phase. Now H&M. It s ems like it’s a thing you do when you’ve stopped giving a shit what Buckingham Palace have to say.

What do you mean “only choice”? They have every child e to do anything they want. Confused

I’m not sure they’ve read the room particularly well. When us plebs back here are stuck in perpetual imprisonment, people are dying, people’s mental health (Harry’s “passion”) is in a terrifying state, businesses are crumbling and we can barely get outside because the weather in the U.K. is so foul, they’re like: Hey! WE’RE PREGNANT! Here’s a beautiful photo of us laying on the grass in our sun dappled garden in the back of our L.A mansion.

For some reason it reminds me of David Brent when he told everyone they were redundant and then that he’d been promoted.... “every cloud” Grin

Well said. We took the cat for an antibiotic jag for cat acne this morning. That's the excitement this week. Bumped into farmer friend at the vets. All our shows and social occasions are cancelled. Suicide is rife in farming due to social isolation. Forgive me if I don't shed a tear over Harry and Meghan.
RickiTarr · 16/02/2021 11:01

I don’t think it’s the UK “room” they’re playing to @TinaYouFatLard

This is all a US-focused whatever it is now. I wonder whether they will lose the dukedom?
