To ask if you would put child forward for the vaccine trial?

coulditbeanymorerubbish · 13/02/2021 09:30

So the Oxford vaccine is now to be tested in children as young as six. Would you put your child up for for children?

Everyone calling others stupid for not wanting it can now volunteer their kids! Because, you know... you're so confident that it's perfectly safe and the right thing to do.

Hell no.

coulditbeanymorerubbish · 13/02/2021 09:32

@SingingLoud ditto! Will you be having it yourself? I won't be for few years?

OP posts:
Funnyfive · 13/02/2021 09:32

Yes I would.

SingingLoud · 13/02/2021 09:33

I’ll be having it myself if and when it’s offered to me, but no I would not volunteer my 6 year old (if I had one).

coulditbeanymorerubbish · 13/02/2021 09:34

@Funnyfive ew why? They don't know if it's safe for your child so why would you put them at risk like that Sad

No best not put a western kid at risk, ah well at least there is Brazil and South Africa, plenty of kids there with desperate parents.

atThecrossroad · 13/02/2021 09:38

But I thought it doesn’t affect children that much so why would they want to vaccinate them ?

FallenSky · 13/02/2021 09:39

Haven't they already tested in children 12 and up? I think I'd want more information first, how those slightly older children reacted, what dosage they'd be using, what potential side effects we could be looking at. I'd definitely feel apprehensive but at the same time, vaccines have been around for many years and they've all had to be tested at one point. It's a tricky one.

FallenSky · 13/02/2021 09:40

@atThecrossroad

My understanding was in the hope it would slow down transmission. Herd immunity also, protecting those that can't be vaccinated?
Northpole23 · 13/02/2021 09:40

Not my children, children should never be experimented on. It’s a firm no from me , they will have the choose when they are 18

Heronwatcher · 13/02/2021 09:40

Look every person with a brain knows that no vaccine is risk free. It’s all a matter of balance though, and personally I would much much much rather have the Covid vaccine than risk getting Covid, especially given how terrible long Covid is. My kids have had all of their vaccinations for diseases which affect children badly (meningitis etc) for the same reason. If I was asked to put my child forward I would ask sensible questions about the trial, the risks and the aims and make an educated decision. With respect OP it sounds like you are just trying to make a point about the vaccine as a whole which, given the amount of mis-information out there about it already, is really not helpful.

Useruseruserusee · 13/02/2021 09:41

I would yes, I have a CEV child.

Herd immunity. Help protect the people who can't be vaccinated for whatever reason.
NerrSnerr · 13/02/2021 09:42

I would if my child was willing but she's scared of injections so I won't. She will have it when it's rolled out though.

AppleKatie · 13/02/2021 09:42

I would certainly consider it. At this point we know it is safe for adults.

I would want to read the research thoroughly and make a more informed choice but my instinct is that if we are at the stage of testing children it’s highly unlikely to be harmful to them.

Vaccines and drugs that eventually treat children all go through human trials on children- when was the last time this harmed a child?

Hmmph · 13/02/2021 09:43

Yes. Where do I sign them up?

ItsSnowJokes · 13/02/2021 09:43

Yes I would in a stage 3 trial.

Greenevalley · 13/02/2021 09:43

@Crockof don't be ridiculous.
You're the only person that has mentioned any other children.

Northpole23 · 13/02/2021 09:44

There is no Mis information, it’s just your perspectives. Plenty of doctors and scientists unless they are peddled out and the U.K. is far the worse. In Switzerland they are not taking the moderna one for a one. Some countries are waiting to see what happen in the U.K. did you know that ? It’s still on Trail. Good luck lol
Frazzled2207 · 13/02/2021 09:45

I have volunteered in a vaccine trial myself. It’s a different kettle of fish volunteering your kid who can’t be fully aware of the risks.
However testing a vaccine that is proven to be both safe and working in adults feels fairly low risk to me. And if nobody put their kid forward then frankly they will never get approved for children.
My main worry about putting my son forward would be that he got a placebo so did it all for nothing.

Angel2702 · 13/02/2021 09:45

Yes I would, we need children vaccinated to stop their education being disrupted and the less virus circulating around children and mutating the better. I can’t say I want other people to volunteer their children though and just sit back. Kids have more vaccines than adults without any issue. Certainly my high school children they are taller and heavier than me so why should they react any differently. If it’s safe for very elderly and frail people why would young people be a problem.

atThecrossroad · 13/02/2021 09:45

I’m not sure about that. My dc are vaccinated for things like measles and meningitis I can see the sense - illness that affect children badly or spread easily between children and that’s important but it doesn’t sit right with me to vaccinate children to protect a differently generation. Vaccinate all the at risk groups but don’t use children to protect them of the illness itself is for the most part mild or undetected in children

Frazzled2207 · 13/02/2021 09:47

But yes your op suggest you’re not actually looking for a sensible answer to this

coulditbeanymorerubbish · 13/02/2021 09:47

@Heronwatcher I am absolutely not trying to make a point about the vaccine as a whole. I just wouldn't let my child be a guinea pig. I've not given given firm no as to whether I'd have it or not, I want more information on potential affects to fertility first.

OP posts:
PhilCornwall1 · 13/02/2021 09:47

No way would I be doing that.
